  1. yeah, the tank was only 600 litres. i eventually got rid of it. it was either the gg or RTG.....
  2. when GGs get to about 12 to 14 inches, their growth i found slowed down heaps. but thats also when they get extremely territorial i really think you need to revise the idea:D
  3. yeah, in my opinion though your CK will die. GGs are nasty, every gg i have had has been a nasty piece of work
  4. yea, what i did was put a pipe with its end burried under, pour water into it, so the water comes up from the bottom. doesnt rot and dampen the eggs too much
  5. locust eggs can remain dormant for awhile and when humidity and temp si right, suddenly all hatch this is when you get seasons overseas of swarms
  6. hope it looks good i would buy 5 silver arowana and get rid of the red tail gourami taht size im sure you can do well with a aro comm:D red tail giant gourami will be agro, more liekly than not,w hen its bigger, and its teeth develop, you will have dead oscars and dead stuff. taht tank is massive, heating that will require 4 jagers. plumbing it to a heavily planted is cool. be careful, quarantine big monsters like arowanas before going into the discus system - arowanas are hardya nd resi.lient and immune to most diseases most fish die of. but in saying that, good luck! sounds exciting! mosnter tanks are always a treat - you can put so much fish in that, i reckon 30 clown loaches:D
  7. sof ro my rtg just for light, one bulb is 150 lumens...thats alot of light! i hav a flashlight with the same tyupes of cree led type bulbs and 200 lumens can light up 400 metres !
  8. hey p44 more below. rated between 6500 to 8000k screw in bulbs , i plan on gettingfittings and makin them myself and pointing down at the tank for my aro tank (no plants0 so thats ok but cionsidering for plants. each 4 foot t8 is 45 watt, its on for 12 horus a day, total i have 9 going at any given time! this will cut the power consump tion by heaps and money invested will be recovered with in 12 months or so. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15734 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34005 one is nto rated for 6500k, i would use that for the tank wtih no plants and the other is 6500 to 7000k for plants. as you can see, these bulbs have long lives - im thinking in my rtg tank, i would need 3 maybe 4 MAX! littlet o no watts. also on my palnts i would probably have 4? or 5? little to no watts, the watts together is not even one t8 bulb! also, i assume these fit into the socket fitting straight from power, no special power reducing things needed?
  9. when you refer to COLOUR TEMP: for my plants swords mostly, is 6500k ok? or is a higher k ok? i found some LED lights online - fits to a standard screw in bulb. very nice! low watts - but the k rating.... is taht standard. so plants need a particular k rating and thats it? or is there anything else?
  10. yeah was thinking bout it but black aro wil be intro'd soon want as much swimming space as possible will jsut wait for jungle look
  11. i had 50 adults.... in 2 months i had litereally close to 1000 babies most of them grew up to a godo size, but left for holiday and thougth they had enough bran for food, half starved, then started to eat each other, i coudlnt clean the enclosure as it opened fromt hetop and they fly out im trying to use a front opening enclosure so they dont get out when i clean it. easyt ob reed they breed like ..... locusts....
  12. i would literally buy it rightn ow if i had space! shame oh well
  13. just dont do it and get a bigger tankf or discus
  14. its a bit pitiful right now looks more like a desert field than a jungle :-? but hope it grows soon
  15. yeah, cos insect feeding to fish is common. i know that some diseases, harbour themselves differently in different animals. just because its in a human doesnt mean a dog or cat will catch it.
  16. ok, my two 1200litre tanks share the same system. one tank has discus and black aro the other has rtg and many fish. i have done this previously but just wondering, always you see LIVE FOOD INTROS DISEASES. true, gold fish and fish do. but i breed my own locust and meal worms. will they introduce disease if i feed it to the aros?
  17. oh thats annoying well.... its so commonly available, well was
  18. not straight val, besides, why is it bganned?
  19. I believe blood worms are indeed nutritionally void. as a treat sure, but really, you gotta feed almost half a pack to get good stuff. Raw prawns, NEVER COOKED, as it blocks them up - prawns turn hard when cooked and changes the structure of flesh and they cant digest that - eventually death. Prawns, raw cut it up and feed - will make them big for sure! my TT eel was 45 cm when i got it, maybe 50 max. Fed on a diet of Raw prawn - large tiger prawns (18.50 per kg) at asian super markets - which my RTG also eats. And the tt eel is on beef heart too - it has grown to 68 to 69 cm now! (my tank height is 72 cm, its just a few cm short of that height) prawn, its fantastic
  20. yeah, was thinking getting seachem foourisha nd excell but really, the system changes 350 litres per day. so really, what i put in will be use less. thats ok, i will let it grow:D im impatient, thsi will be a test of my virtue haha
  21. ok, average of 2 inch sand depth in my tank now. syphone and recleaned prior to planting new plants. i have rocks to as retaining wall on some areas, trimmed plants roots and leave covered in black algae - not toob ad really. trimmed yellowing dying leaves so the plants have a good head start. i have the following plants ambulia twisted val mini sag latifolius sword whcih is already sprouting a new plant and 3 shooters! i want to carpet them. 1x large amazon with 2 shooters growing 2x small plantlets amazon 2 large argentine swords 2x small argentine 1x sword, brasil something, its a reounded end leaf thin. marble queen sword crypt anubias nana and barteri all having clay balls under them and big ones have 2 clayballs. any tips? io want the tank to be forest like, as fast as possible any tips?
  22. maybe not enough money in it as asian aro species i know that the albino and platinum asian formosus aros have recently just been bred - because they are a weaker gene i think like the colour traits in fish generally is when its white or albino.
  23. even in big tanks, jus tlike cichlids. when you have many fish, agro goes away apparently.
  24. Ok i have some anubias and swords the anuabias some are on wood, but one is buried on the gravel. the one on gravel has a clay ball under the root it is growing rapidly more so than the ones not buried. Any feedback on this? i plan on doing the same wthi all the anubias when i replant. also swords, the root system is now massive encompassing the entire 'pot' when i take it out, it will have lots of roots, should i trim the roots and cut them shorter or shall i plant as is and just try to bury the roods as much as i can, it willb e hard to do that but if its better i will try. anubias trim roots too?
