Or shall i say piranha is closely related to those:D i have a red hook metynnis thats just under a foot long. spotted metynis readily available now is also part of that family right? that auction is not at all a piranha. but, interesting. i have seen and had silver dollars mishapen like that in the past, when i have purchased them as adults. sometimse their head seems to differ. colouration too. some have more reds than others

you can keep aros with tetras IF the aro is massive. if its small then its nimble enough to eat them, plus naturally it would go for them massive aros will not be able to catch tiny tetras.

Haisley, First and foremost you lied blatantly... to me and others. Haisley, saying "maf comes around here all the time, they are fine with it" is your words, exactly your words... how dare you actualy attempt to blame me. I am a buyer.... sure i was a little naive to believe you - probably because i was excited bout the frogs.... but the end of the day... you lied. yes, i guess so, i didnt realise it would create such an outcry... but i am just wondering, they are quite abundant in general - they are very common in nz. not rare at all.... i guess the question is, are they toxic to fish? i guess we all have opinions of what we should and shouldnt feed MORALLY, but technically i guess is what im asking. If an animal is not endangered, i dont really have an issue with it to be honest. about the beef, yeah im not really joking lol i mean we cultivate cows and eat them, feed themt o our pets. Frogs are bred to be sold..... no difference realy. Most frogs purchased from LFS probably die anyways. lets get real here.

the question ws sparked by a picture of an aro eating a frog, and got me thinking. why waste a gold fish or.... a cow taking its beef heart?? :-? frogs are a good source of nutriets and gut loading them would be very good to boost the nuteritional intake of a fish. just a question though, the effort of raising frogs is a lot..... im too impatient. but a question i guess..... has anyone really tried it?

Who here has ever fed golden bell frogs and frogs common in NZ to their fish and Arowanas. more specifically, to their Arowanas. Preferably - green or asian arowanas. I want to know if its ok? i know in asia, frogs are common to be fed to arowanas, but id ont know if nz frogs are ok to feed. maybe poisonous to other fish ... not sure.

I have tried plastic bio balls - and i have nto like dthem as much. i found they dont establish as quickly - and tolerance for high amonia spikes is less. I found cemraic and sintered glasst ypes have best results. I use both, only to use bio balls to space out the gaps and crreate mroe flow and oxygen i guess, and i got them free:D but to me, aqua one cerami nood or fluval noodles is best - providing best results. i can use a little and it goes a long way, while bio balls are cumbersome. for sump set ups, bio balls are fine i think from what i have seen and experienced, but canisters, really, gotta go ceramic types. also, the surface and internal surface of ceramic can harbour more surface dwelling bacteria, while bioballs are not as rough, making less surface for bacteria, scienctifically sound that theory i think
