  2. yeah, NLS thera a for clowns, awesome, and awesome value. as for meat eaters, i do like hikari. but yeah im about to make my clown food again, my old batch ran out. i wanna make a batch of no pellts in it, just purely natural fresh food. when i rearrange tank in a couple weeks, my grow out will be fed predominantly massivore and fresh food. in the freshfood baatch here is what i wanna do as a paste mix 1) raw shrimp 2) raw beefheart 3) silkworm pupa (either FD or fresh, raw frozen fromthe korean shop) 4) courgette 5) vitamins 6) spirulina 7) garlic into rolls like my discus tucker but for my clown loaches. silkworm pupa will bring up the protein massively. for VIP im gonna stuff shrimp with shell with jumbo stick and massivore, also gonna try to see if the vip will eat silkworm pupa, if it wont eat freeze dried, i will try fresh fro the korean supermarket - it will be like feeding waxmoth i guess has anyone tried frozen silkworm pupa from the korean shop?

  6. I am looking at some fish f oods. some claim this and that. i guess im looking for peoples technical knowledge. I am a huge fan of hikari arowana sticks. jump carnistick, massivore and sinking carnivore. i have never seen growth like i have in massivores..(i am not at all paid by hikari) 8) anyway, i am looking at other foods that claim wonders. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish-food/auction-373311156.htm silkworm pupa, high protein, apparently full of goodness. just wondering, what scientific backing does this back? what is in them that makes them so good? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish-food/auction-374276544.htm JBL, better tha hikari? the same? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish-food/auction-373575841.htm best value for money but what brand is it? does anyone have this and know ingridients? my diet plan for my VIP is prawn stuffed with massivore and jumbo carnistock. (carnistic is really just hikari sticks but bigger so its easier to stuff 2 pellets and equals to 4 or 5 pellets. ) but wondering if i should explore the cheaper brands? silkworm looks awesome, i just like the look of it, sci fi like
  7. yeah i dont believe tehy are endangered what they actually do is dump specimens that perhaps isnt export quality back to rivers. ths way it stocks it back up and less red tape for future. fraser is right on that one
  8. yeah didnt know that i didnt know they were endangered. cool
  9. To breed asian aros, you dont need a license, you need a license to purchase the parents. when you start breeding, to sell them overseas then you require a CITES chip and permit - to export. If youw ere to succesfully breed it in NZ, there would be no stopping you in my opinion to sell it locally. correct me with legislation,. it is merely to stop wild caught arowanas being exported. If you show MAF you have the ponds to breed and show them the process, theyw ill not insist on a cites. It is to protect the local asian rivers from over fishing. Breeding of asian arowana has been done in a huge tank before. Though many breeders suspect that this method is hormone induced - whcih is not desirable in the market. perhaps the farms that naturally breed them have spread enough propaganda against it? who knows. I am unsure if babies from hormone breeding are stunted or not nice - but there isnt a big market for tank bred arowanas. IN asia, they actually put numerous parents in a pond, and they breed in there and pair up naturally. they just catch the parents they know have babies. its mass production really in a way nz, you can breed this im sure in a pond inside a greenhouse backed up by gas heating like butterfly creeks butterfly house, that will sustain the heat. But if you take into account power, upkeep... and local market, you are doomed to failure within your first batch IF you even get that far. Heating alone would be in the thousands per month. THOUGH, if you have enough backing, deep pockets, i believe you can market NZ with its 100% pure reputation and bree daros here, and get the babies CITES approved, then export.... i reckon you can make a dent in the market. Only asian countries breed aros, if NZ did it succesfully in mass, i reckon there COULD be a market, given you take the right steps to market, excecute and promote it in shows. NZ, there is only a handful of buyers. I mean, we have 4million people, in asia, that is the population of a small city. I have personally seen silver arowans bred in indoor spa pool type concrete ponds - its doable, just practicality wise, perhaps not. the cost of trying to breed, set up, you might as well spend that buying a top notch fish. it will cos tyou less in teh long run. i have a RTG for sale, its a beautiful specimen. why dont you buy that from me? its a good price, comes with a tank too!
  10. im not a DIY kinda guy rather something is plug and play:D what plant or hydroponic shops sell them switched on gardener has shut hasnt it? looks like budzilla pushed too many buds
  11. i wanted 4 T5 bulbs in total, thats all i need how much should i expect to pay brand, who do i get it from?
  12. oh ok so generally its more light produced for the size of bulbs, but also more power used on T5s T5 fittings are 280 each for a twin bulb, i would need at least 2x twin fittings. thats 500!
  13. actually better yet what ist he fundemental diff between power glo T5 and T8s? and aqua glo? does the Marine blue bulb for T5 put out more UV? what is the difference thanks in advance who ever is a light guru, looking forward to hearing from ya
  14. I have 3 fixtures im gonna use for my VIP as general overhead lighting. its 5 bulbs in total of T8 tubes. is it worth u upgrading to a 4 T5 format? if so why? if not why? is T5 less wattage more brightness or something special? I want a combination of something that will bring out reds and be bright. currently i have 3 aqua glos and 2 power glos for my RTG. I would probably look into a similar format with my VIP opinions would be appreciated
  15. eah i wanna boil to m ake the extract
  16. ahh good comment! ok, so black water is cos of peat but some blackwater rivers have ketapang, whcih apparently makes fish more vibrant. so... to make black water you dont need ketapang, so the blackwaters in asia, are not all due to ketapang? also, leaves i was thinking of leaving the whole leaves in the tank, but will it rot and cause amonia spikes?
  17. peat is cheap enough, id ont mind using peat. i am too scared i get the wrong leaves:D peat is very cheap and can make hundreds of litres of extract, i am just wondering if the both have the same effect in terms of content?
  18. Ok i wanna make concentrated mass amounts of blackwater extract. do you think there is any difference in ketapang leaves vs Peat moss tannins? if there isnt, i would probably just get peat.

    silica sand

if you hav enough bottom dwellers to disturb the sand, dirt floats and gets sucked up by the filter. but yes, if you have timid fish, you will need to syphon the surface of the sand. i love silica, all my tanks are white silica. im gonna do a black silica with my main tank soon
  20. i used nylon woven water and food safe hose. no problems there
  21. interested if there are issues with the set up when id di mine, i hadm any issues and had to refine them. usually involvedflooding lol raptured hoses etc. anyway, watch out tap pressure, thats inconsistent. good luck, it took 3 months to have mine refined and continuous and effective its a simple concept basd on irrigation systems
  22. buy 5 and its 8.50 a sack of 25kg
  23. swanson industrial sands sell black silica same size as the white silica. they are very dark pitch black, not grey. price is great! chaep
