  1. nice, gotten thicker! i believe thats what they call "bullet shape" in terms of arowana shape description. more golds are bullet shaped than reds apparently, who knows lol as for the gold. i understand what you m ean ... same principle i guess with grade 2 red that will never go red and a high quality red. but the issue is, RTG has good gold colouration, and is 1/4 the price. a xb is 8k! so a rtg cost me 2k... so yeah, huge difference, and many many many people would see diminishing returns paying 8k:D only a few people like us (addicted freaks) would actually see the extra 4k value hahaha :sml1:
  2. i agree, for aro comm, unless the tank is gargantuan, then the tank being bare is practical not just preference. aro comms, fights always break out - so avoiding them poking their eyes out is key
  3. no just alot of saving :slfg: you can get rtg, just gotta request it and push for it. i had one for sale.... should hve been faster!
  4. please if you can post a pic of your tank set up and dimensions locusts are easy spraying i find isnt good. too m oist. anyway, may work for some. i put grass once a day in the morning, and thats it. no oats or bran. i get a goodyield out of them. during summer i get triple yield , winter not as much. i dont use thermos, i jsut have a 100w bulb on for 12 hours a day. off at night even during winter. they breed, eat and stuff. what you will find is that there are some locusts that will eat the heads and kill other locusts, natural selection, weak ones will just die, its natural, what % do you have gettingd dead?
  5. Get the jar! get 5 of them! and do a jar comm:D
  6. i think redwoods has that aro you are speaking of? depends on the fish and how colour ful the scales and where the colour extends up to. as for jardinii, there are a few around in fact, hff mt roskill has a tinyone, awesome! youc an feed it pellets from a young age and will grow fast. rtg, no one brings them in anymore.
  7. Decided my next Project (minimum 3 years from now) 1200Litre VIP XB or Blue base XB - not sure yet if i want blue or gold base you see. blue base looks too closet o a red and a full gold base would be a shining gold thing swimming around. tank mates: albino tinfoil (if its still ailve) a carpet of albino senegals albino sailfin (any other albino fish i could put in there, i want an albino theme) lol im an addict
  8. probably not ready to breed? conditions need changing, dont know had the same problem then deci9ded, im not a breeder of fish lol
  9. fully grown this black aro will be very big. you are in hibiting its growth in that small tank IMO. it wont get as bulky. ALLY07: PICS!!
  10. well you can in theory. i have grown a jardinii into a monster in a 360 litre ages ago. but involved lots of water changes and much food. i rigged up auto changer and was equivalent to 30% wc a day. you can do it, just slower! and i reckon it wont get as bulky as you would in a bigger tank . it will just take longer i reckon.
  11. i didnt - but saw the one eating hikari sticks which i havent seen before and impulse took over! unplanned completely.
  12. there is only one way large tank, good water, plenty plenty plenty of food
  13. now a few weeks is past, and the red has eaten a good fill, grown a bit and put on weight, thickened and more aggressive with food. I will commence training with pellets again perhaps lol i really really want it eating pellets! sticks and massivore. i may try the flavour transfer method. this time i will not feed it for a good 10 days, then feed it. will take self control lol but will see how i go
  14. its currently 35 cms ish. hard to measure but it now starts to take them from the surfice before i had to drop it one by one, not i can drop a few and it eats at its leisure.
  15. yeah the no substrate has one desirable side effect. i figured out this is why they do it. although some claim its ease of cleaning, sure, but one side effect i found was light reflecting from the bottom of the tank. its hard to have light reflect from the bottom and make the botom of the fish shine. i discovered this using white silica sand. it makes light reflect upward and further enhancing the shine of a gold arowana. but in saying that i agree. i dont like bare bottom tank set ups i reckon some wood, and bottom dwellers would do nicely!
  16. picked up a fire eel from hff roskill. they weaned it onto hikari sticks. wheni got it ack, it was reluctant so i fed it shrimp stuffed with pellets and slowly but surely removed the shrimp portion and did a flavour transfer treatment on massivore and hikari sticks. now, it eats them with no flavour transfer. purely hikari and massivore. see how fast this eel will grow!
  17. i guess teh tank is about the fish, not the tank itself. i agree, needs some wood, substrate, enver been a fan of bare bottom but love the aro comm!
  18. go to arowanaclub.com there are articles there alot of them are champion arowanas none of them look even clos to that that picture is in my opinion slighlty enhanced. though there are some spectacular specimens. i find that the most spectacular specimens are GOLDS, these fish generally are not tampered with when it comes to photos. but when it comes to reds, i generally find that many pictures are enhanced or red lights are used
  19. reason i say that is not even champions are like that.
  20. If i am not mistaken, that is a 'king VIP' correct me if i am wrong King:D it rhymes, im a rapper :dunno: anyway to be honest, i believe that photo is somewhat enhanced by photo shop. My friend has show n me what he has done with my current red, easily done. i dont think that is a viable gauge of actual fish to be honest.
  21. Hi Mr Bond 007 last time i got the impression you did not like the blue base gold:D i am relieved to know you import blue base gold. so what types of XB/Gold do you import and are able to import in also prices. Also on my post, i saw a BLACK BASE GOLD XB. what is that? is that just a blue base with darker base or is that a new variant?
  22. thats what i am trying to find out the difference with chilli red and vip red is the standards, like dogs in a show, the length fins, colour base and potential. you are relying on the selector. so in my case, VIP is imperial brand. vincent chong selects and or breeds and categorises. same with vip xb i guess but im still researching that. from what i can see, they select a gold that they believe will show the fullest gold, crossing over and the highest shine asap... whcih i ndicates a good gene. but its expensive 8k plus. and as much as i am not afraid to spend on fish, that price is not worth that particular xb fromw hat i can see, i like the xb to have contrast like the black and blue base. just matter of opinion i guess. i mean the vip xb is a nice fish and very popular just not for me.
  23. hahaha hilarious how we are obsessed! yeah, those are my two top choices i see the merits of a VIP xb, but really, malaysian blue base XB is my pick, they are also cheap enough for a comm:D..... maybe lol probabl not realistically. but blue base would be awesome or the black base. the blue base has too much similar to a red in some regard. the black base.... is outright gold.
