  1. You can assist with helping the Cycling process by adding "Cycle" a bacteria product from your LFS. Some people hate it , some like I have used it and I reckon it helps the system to multiply bacteria fasting than by naturally using it. Others may warn you off it, but either way it will do NO damage to your system.
  2. Your Damsel and Catseyes should be fine to have in there now, But dont add anything else until you have it completely right.
  3. Ph is good if 8.2. You need to get a KH test kit form your LFS. If low get the KH up with good old baking soda. But you need to get your magnesium correct first. The wrong concentration of Magnesium effects correct KH and Cacium concentrations. So....you need a test for MG A test for KH A test for Calcium. If you dont use these you WILL sruggle to have a decent tank. IF YOU STILL HAVE AMMONIA, YOU TANK HAS NOT CYCLED. Good luck!
  4. You bet me to it L.
  5. I wasnt going in quite that deep, however you are probably right. I use baking soda only to raise my KH. One decent teaspoon will raise KH by approx 2KH per 300 litres. This is sodium Bicarbonate, which relates to the Carbonate hardness I would assume. As far as Ca and Mg, these have to added along side Baking soda of their own accord.
  6. You need to get these right before worrying about a water change.
  7. Firstly...what is your PH?? Am I reading something wrong here. Dont add anything else until the ammonia and nitrite have been gone for at least 3 days in a row. Ph needs to be around 8.2 Kh between 7 and 12 DKH, (I personally run at 11-12) Kh is the "Alkalinity" which helps to keep your PH stable. Low KH can cause rapid changes in ph shocking inhabitants. Do you know how to adjust these?
  8. I agree with you Ira, The guys offering good advice even though its not ideal to be keeping Marine life in a tank that small. It sounds as if the guy knows the basics . Don't really see the problem with the ad.
  9. My whitespot has gone and all my fish are now good. It may have been more likely the temp. or other cause.... Dunno.....difficult to tell sometimes.
  10. I run a $50.00 ducting fan from the Switched on gardener. If I run it 24 hours the temperature stays at 24-26 nicely. I generally have it off for a few hours in the morning as its not 100% quiet, but I live rural so very quiet here and I notice every little sound. You have to cut a hole in the top of your hood or make a bracket for it. Very simple and very necessary. Reef, I cannot believe you don't have a chiller with a tank your size. Or is it broken?
  11. Interesting.....Aluminium....sulphide...... Aluminium sulphate is a pool floculant which clears up water extremely efficiently.(I maintain the local School swimming pool and use this frequently). I must say zeovit tanks are extremely clear. I wonder if this is linked somehow. (Just to add a spanner to the works)!!

Does anybody know what this is. I dont think it is very good as it was seen spraying large amounts of what looked like toxic steam. Heaps of it too. Looked very toxic to me. I quietly took it out and MURDERED it! It looks like my little bloody toenail!! (Yes that is it's shell).
  17. And.....you are saying Rust pulls PO4......what does the geobacter do though?
  18. Where does geobacter come into aquarium situations?
  19. So long as you copy NSW with your own Hydro, it should be fine yeah? That would seem obvious to me. If your hydro reads 23 with NSW then run your tank at 23 also, etc etc.
  20. Hey guys, My tank is just over four months young and has just started a third lot of brown algae growth. I am seeing definite Coraline algae growths also. Has anyone experienced three lots of brown algae crops before? My beach is going yuk again! When does this finally give up?
  21. I have just noticed a massive difference in all of my inhabitants changing from 24 to 25. I think it may make a difference. Everything has spread out to maximum sizes and looks awesome! (Except for my LTA) who is slowly recovering from that damn melafix. (It is looking better though)
  22. Waitemata harbour NSW is .25 so I'm gonna follow suit.
  23. Very interesting. Fay my new BTA from you has been good at .24. I have adjusted to .25 and LTA seems to be responding. Then again your LTA has been fine at .23??? WHO KNOWS!!
  24. Cheers Ben, didnt know they were that fussy with Salinity. She seems to like it a bit better already I think. Will keep you posted.
  25. Can I borrow one perhaps A?
