  1. Sweet man just been into EDAC this avo and they are releasing within the next month or two two more diallers EDAC 310 & 320, both can do SMS and/or e-mail and the 320 will do data logging with removeable SD cards how sweet is that man they were talking prices not much more then the 300 modems mentioned above. i also downloaded their software for the EDAC 300 and checked it out looks great really easy to configure heres a link to the download if you wanna check it out. http://www.edacelectronics.com/Edac_website/Downloads/SMS300%20Configuration%20Manager%20v2%20-%20EDAC.exe have a play.
  2. Well just tested the water levels and so far so good levels are pretty good tests using Salifert Amonia undetected Nitrite undetected Nitrate 2.5ppm Ph 8.2 Hmmm wait to the week end and may see if anything appears i think cos i removed all the canage before they started to break down has prevented a major cycle.
  3. Yip the pic or picaxe chips can deffently be programed to do almost anything you want the picaxe chips are soooooo easy to program to and with their flow chat programmer allow you to teat it before down loading to the chip theres a couple of good sites on these chips heres one i use. http://www.rev-ed.co.uk/picaxe/ sorry i dont know what edition of SC it was. Robert
  4. Dont the paging car alarms only work on a radius from the alarm unit as i dont think they use the telecommunications networks i think they have a builtin transceiver? But you can get SMS alarms that may work?
  5. heres their address again try this one have read http://www.edacelectronics.com/products/remote-dialer-solutions/
  6. Well the 222-02 can only take in Digital inputs (open/closed signals relays, switches, etc) the 300 series can read analogue (temperatures) and digital (open/closed signals relays, switches, etc) so again you'd have a relay thats powered by the power supply that feeds your tank and if the power is removed the relay contacts will change stat allowing the EDAC dialler to dial an alarm, the EDAC units can run on 12-28vdc so a 12vdc power pack and 12vdc battery would run the device for when power is out allowing it to dial the alarm. The 300 series units can control heaters and fans/chillers to control you tank temperature to if you wanted.
  7. Hmm 2ft fluros wont fit over a 35cm tank, either compacts or cos of the deapth something more substantual could end up going MH.
  8. Ok got some prices for you's on the EDAC dialers. Dialler the EDAC 222-02 RRP $340+gst this gives you 2x digital inputs and 2x digital outputs, with 8seconds voice messages that you reacord. SMS diallers the EDAC 300-G (vodafone network, purchase of SIM card and aireal is extra) RRP $770+gst this has 8 universal inputs (10bit analohue or digital) and outputs packed with heaps of functions great little device. the EDAC 300-C (Telecom network, purchase of an aireal is extra) RRP $890+gst features are the same as the EDAC 300-G. Heres there site http://www.edacelectronics.com/images/products/4493.jpg Robert
  9. A big corperate company software , it's cos it's part of our front end software package they have to use ours, complicated to explain but we network our controllers back to the a computer(s) which have our software for user interface so if they want to dail any alarms out they have to purchase a notification licence to do so, and the sites are ussually hospitals airports etc that purchase it, if you know what a building management system (BMS) is then you'l understand.
  10. Hi Stompa just need to know more on what your planning to keep in the tank is it a fresh water or salt water are you planning to keep plants/corals, and what effects are you wanting? I'd keep clear of the bayonet fittings as they dont dispurse the light evenly over the tank so you'd end up with bright and shadowed spots stick with fluros across the tank for even lighting. Robert
  11. Cheap considering the controls we sell if you want to use the Software to dial/page/e-mail or SMS you could pay upto $8-10K just for the licence on the software, only ever seem to use them on big sites funnier enough  . But the cheap option is use an external dialler like above, theres heaps of different ones out there and you dont have to use SMS diallers why not phone line diallers be cheaper initially. Duke you got any prices on normal phone diallers?
  12. well i'd have a mains failure relay switching the alarm zone so all your doing is setting up another zone to be silent and dial out when the mains failure relay (just a relay) looses power the relay open circuits the zone causing an alarm stat saying hey we've lost power do your thing. that $1100 is only the value of fish and shrimp i havent even started on the value of the corals yet, may seem small to some but a lot to loose in one go i thought. heres the EDAC site for people that dont have an alarm. http://www.edacelectronics.com/products/remote-dialer-solutions/4491/ Robert
  13. Pies Well the floor wasn't wet thank goodness, but i know if i had one of these i wouldn't have this post up thats for sure, the alarm doesn't have to sound the siren it can be set as a silent zone so it just dials the number but i would set the keypad buzzer to sound for when your home. would have saved me $1100 (based on retail prices) worth of live stock and still counting. How much would it cost to replace your live stock? I know its to late for me but next time i wont take it for granted it could happened to anyone that has an RCD protected circuit guys at work said they had a number of RCD's trip aswell that day.
  14. Also to add to that is there is no reason why you cant use your house alarm system to notify you when the power is lost on your tank just have to program a zone to do so.
  15. thanks again guy's, just going to wait and see what happens i've moved some corals into another tank but most if not all my SPS are receeding Thanks to Steve for letting me put my corals in your tank and Tim and Chris for offering to help in the moving of the grave yard. As for insurance cos it's at work it will come down to their insurance so i dont even think i'll bother just rather cut my losses then bother stressing trying to claim insurance. Yes you can get auto dialler devices we use EDAC diallers on small sites they have digital inputs and can SMS, or play a recorded message that you record another bonus is that they run on 12vdc so a small alarm battery as a backup will keep it going, i should invest in one hey especially since we use then at work  . Well i have been toying with the idea of a discus tank so it may happen earlier then i planned. Robert
  16. a) The earth on the output of a UPS is connected directly to the incomming earth and in some cases the neutral is grounded to earth hence why you should have RCD's on the output of your UPS, if the UPS neutral is grounded this may cause tripping of an RCD that supplies the UPS. b) An RCD measures the difference between the phase and neutral, if the loads of the phase and neutral are unbalanced then the RCD will trip as one has to be down to earth for an unbalanced load to appear. Another tip for of you is if you want to get past using an RCD on new circuit installations you can by perminently connecting the devices, this means the plugs are cut off and the devices are connected to power via a PCU unit thats as long as theres no plugs on the circuit so it would be a dedicated circuit.
  17. Cheers all for your replies just thought i'd share the carnage with you all. Those battery operated air pumps could be switched automatically by a power failure relay to switch them in when power fails real easy. Remember when purchasing a UPS by on the continous load rating and cos UPS are sold on KVA divide your load KW by 0.8 (power Factor). so closed loop pump = 110watts (0.11KW) heater = 500watts (0.5KW) total = 610watts (0.61KW) work on a 0.8 power factor so KVA would be 610 / 0.8 = 762.5 watts (0.7625KW) so you would want to ize your UPS on that value. Also you want to make sure the UPS can take external batteries as the batteries in a UPS will only run a load for a short period of time so you will require a large external battery supply. Other handy hints on purchase is to bye a dual on line UPS this means that the load is always been run through the inverter and the batteries are always on trickle charge which prolongs their life. Also with dual on line UPS's is that cos your using the inverter and drawing load from the batteries all the time if there is an inverter fault or battery fault the UPS will go into mains bypass and warn you of a fault which is handy cos if theres a fault on a standby UPS you wont know of these faults untill there is a power failure which is too late by then. Hope this helps people that are really looking at purchasing a UPS. Robert
  18. Well i'v never had any problems for the past year at least of amo's and nitrates and last tie i checked was about 1-2 weeks ago and all levels were sweet. I'd say lack of water movement and temperature being cold would have killed them. My remarks of wait till the amo and nitrate spikes hit is cos now the temperature has dropped me Bacterier is probably non existant and the high volume of loss (bodies) high bio load will surely cause a large spike in levels which will prob kill anything elese that maybe alive so moving my corals is a possability and as for my Anemones well i dont wana take the risk of poluting someone elses tank.
  19. I'm not sure what the temp was like in Christchurch over the weekend as i was out of town maybe someone who was here can fill me in?
  20. Yip i agrre with on that i'd only use the UPS to power up my heater and return pump not lights or other devices and beleive me i have thought about a UPS dam it, but UPS's are not to seen as a completely fail safe device either as a spike may trip the UPS internal safeties aswell we have had problems on our sites with internal faults and fulse tripping batteries need replacing ussually around the two year mark but againthat depends on brands but we'll never know weather it would have saved it or not.
  21. I'd go for the multi RCD's as if one trips at least you'll have some devices still running thats as long as you dont have a spike that trips them.
  22. Well heres a great start to the week after my long weekend away friday to sunday, i have just come into work where i have my 4foot tank setup and have lost the lot the cause a power spike on Sat afternoon had tripped the RCD breaker so the tank temperature is cold. List of imediate death is; 1x Purple Tang 1x Yellow Tang 2x Purcula Clowns 2x Polymous Clowns 1x Bi Colour Blenny 1x Six Line Wrasse 2x Coral Banned Shrimp 2x Cleaner Shrimp O lets wait for the Amo and Nitrate spikes hey then i'll up date to total deaths in corals as i have no more fish to kill. So my mission today is to abuse the crap out of the power company and see what insurance we have and see what can be claimed if anything. From one very sad person .
  23. I'm actually trying to find out what we can get gas/water exghanges at so i'll keep you informed if you like feelers hopefully they've got something we can use.
  24. Leave him for a while he'l come out on his own the biggest mistake people seem to make is trying change the tank surroundings so they can view the anemone and then they get upset and start roaming around again the best thing you can do is let it be and it'l find a place to where it's happy hopefully some where you can enjoy viewing.
  25. Must be smoko time hey the forum traffics picked up . As Steve asked is there any info on this tank?
