  1. your leaves will grow fine but your roots will not be well establish. your will fine your KuHlI lOaCh and CoRyDoRaS will be digging out the roots. your plant will most likely be floating on the surface. thus flaoting plant. another option is to buy JBL fertiliser ball. it has work well for me and it is not tooo expensive. once you think that the root is well establish, there is no need for substract fertiliser but you got to keep using liquid excel florish (or whatever brand). Cheers
  2. thanks for asking. nothing unusal, nothing the bristlenose and water changes could not handle in keeping the algae downm i just did my second pruning. it does no look good now but once the growth cycle take over, it will look natural again.
  3. the underground heater is not meant to replace the glass heater. they are primarily there to allow circulation within the substract. this will allow the substract to breath. this is to prevent the substract fertiliser from gatting stain and turn toxic if it is not being used up by the plants. i am using the aquatic mix across the whole surface so i am sure at 40% of the mix is still yet to be use. thus the gravel heater will try to preserve the fertiliser for future growth use. there is no need for gravel heater for the first few months for the plants to thrive. but in the long run, it is better with under gravel heater. i have three in my big tank. Cheers
  4. i use two bags of Daltons aquatic mix which cost a fraction of what other wise would have cost me $200 in LFS. check out my layout. http://www.guppy.co.nz/index.php?name=F ... opic&t=137 hope to share more ideas for aquascaping. Cheers

  6. Hi, could those who has pond or knows if there ae any plant that would survive in NZ cold climate, say in auckland? other than ambulia what other plant can be consider for out door temperature. i imagine it will be around 10 degree c (out at night). i know most of the plant needs at least 18 degree according to the book. but i think ambulia can survive that cold. please correct me if i am wrong. what about Indian Fern, Rotala Indica, Polysperma, Anbulia, Hair Grass, Green Pine, Red Pine and Rotala macrandra. Cheers
  7. that is an interesting plant. look like a mayaca commonly known here as green pine. does anyone know if anbulia can survive in an out door pond. some part of NZ could go down as low as minus 10 degree. cheers

  14. hair algae were there in the first place could be due to a number of reason. obvious one will be water change which will sell buffet your water, KH. irregular water change not keeping the right parameter not vacuuming out the dead leave too much or too little fertilser too much or too little sun light or aritificial light too much or too little co2 can cause algae to grow. algae is part of the eco system hense if you have plants, you wil have algaes. the key is to keep it under control. CO2 is necessary in the long run to keep your weed in good competition for nutrience against the algae. the plant may appear to grow but i can assure that lagae is not too far away if one of those steps are not kept balance. keep you plant growing and healthy and algae will be far away. cheers
  15. that will be useful information. i need to keep an eye on what is illegal. thanks warren
  16. Flourish Excel will rid of those ugly hair algae. double dose according to instruction and wait for two weeks or so. the BBA will starts to turn pink and will soon disappear. do a 50% water change after that for the next two week and you are back to normal. be aware, they can come back if your water condition did not improve. Cheers
  17. HI All thanks for the comments. it does take time and energy. any comment about the gravel level is too high, too much of fertiliser all over the place, or some constructive comments. have anyone tried this before? cheers
  18. i will vote for Hydrocotyle leucocephala
  19. having regular water change is good for the plant. i observe that i have plenty of bubble (with my CO2 pumping) after every water change. i suppose there are nutrient in the water. AUckland water that is. try all those blueandkim suggested. at the end of the day, no plant will survive if the owner do not put in affect to care for the plant. Cheers
