  14. OK so I bought another tank....... It is a Hex, 900mm tall and around 440mm wide (have no idea how I'm gonna clean it. It's still in Auckland at my mums place, so haven't actually seen it yet. Anyway was wonder what type of filter would suit this tank.....what should I keep an eye out for? I'm not in any hurry to set it up, so can take my time gathering the items needed. Also ideas on heaters and lighting please........would underwater lighting do any good on a tank this deep?

    Gidday!

    Welcome.....glad to have you here
  23. I would say he is a lovely looking VT ( Veiltail ) that has had his tail a bit nipped......very nice colour too!
  24. I am still learning but had a look at the pics. Can you see an egg spot? Although some males can show eggspots aswell  He could be a short finned male....a Plakat I can't see what her ventrals look like........ the ventral fins are the two little ones at the front that look like arms. They are proportionately longer in males than females. Does your fish flare at it's reflection.....have you tried sticking a mirror in front of him/her? blowing a bubblenest isn't a 100% indication that a betta is male, but a betta who does blow bubblenests is far more likely to be male than female
