  1. sorry out of topic here. what about for saltwater tanks? a typical K range will be 10000K to 14000K?
  2. amazing quality photos you got there mate!!
  3. i separate mine at 4 weeks age. at this age, females starting developing gravid spot (if you look carefully). if you are unsure of the sexes, put the unsure ones with the males. this way all virgin females will be true.
  4. oh...i know how they look like now. i have seen them earlier this year in HFF...definitely NOT "albino". they are just like the "blonde" variety like guppies with a bit less colouration.
  5. wanna look at my hatchery? might be helpful too. http://www.guppy.co.nz/index.php?name=N ... cle&sid=21
  6. thanks guys...i will try to be patient, and stick with excel dosing for a week. couldnt resist trying to remove it manually and hack the plants out. removing thread algae from hairgrass can be a pain in the as*.
  7. have you tried www.bettatalk.com
  8. hi all has anyone had success treating thread algae with Flourish Excel. i have double dose my tank for 3-4 days now....hair algae still remains...seems to me they are spreading even more...rather than been removed. tank turned cloudy though.
  9. might want to check this out mate? http://www.guppy.co.nz/index.php?name=N ... cle&sid=21
  10. got all confused. to wash or not to wash? sand are way to fine to wash anyway.
  11. i take it you dont wash your aquatic mix and straight cover it with sand? this means water cant penetrate into sand and make the mess? unless pull the deep root of the plants out.

    Xmas Holidays

thats the problem with me. i am also away for 2 weeks. feeding fry is a crucial thing in the first few weeks for growth development. i had recently a decent albino kois swordtail fry batch, with no feeding of bbs for 2 weeks, i think this may stunt their growth or affect them somehow, i know this is this true to guppies for sure.
  14. dude..you should check out the 2006 show case in that website. some really nice tanks with xmass moss.
  15. cheers for the info. it looks reallly good!!!
  16. hi heather...what is that big green plant you have in the middle of the tank? looks stunning!!! also...what kind of lighting are running?
  17. i am also very keen on marine setup. but in saying that...knowing that i am on a tight budget has put me off. if i dont have the all the right equipments (decent ones i mean), and also keeping in mind with the regularly cost involved and maintainence requirements for it, i would have to say i am not ready yet. if i just jump ahead and try to setup with an inproper system with cutting the cost and avoiding expensive stuff, this is will put me into more financial difficulties in the future. My approach is if you do it you have to do it right the first time, even if its cost more. this will saves a lot of hassle/ cost / time later. i have been lurking in the saltwater threads for while now. Perhaps someday when im ready. for now..its just pretty much reading and learning a bit more on the saltwater side for me.
  18. oh right. thats makes life easier. but then if you were to plant a plant...do you push the roots deep enough to reach aquatic mix? or just at sand level.

    driftwood

i would just buy one....doesnt really cost much...depending on size...could do a decent size for aroun$20. saves me cleaning and boiling it, cant really be bothered with a all the hassle. and you can start attaching plants to do it.
