my betta fry were borned on 4th Sept. they are around 1.1cm including tail....so i would say betta fry grow up quite slow compared to guppies. i feed them on bbs twice daily.

  11. platies tend to eat a lot. do realise big belly doesnt mean dropping soon.
  12. hi WTM, when a livebearer is about a drop. her vent will be open. it actually becomes nearly vertical ifyou observe closely. this is the method i use, if i see a platy like tat in the picture shown. i would put her in a trap, let her drop, collect the babies and release the mother. this wont stress the female too much as i only leave her in there for 1-2 days. due date is near, keep an eye on her. dropping soon, notice the gravid spot vent becomes vertical a bit. she ready as her vent is very straight, put her in the trap, will be dropping in 1 -2 days. good luck with your platties keeping. regards shiuh
  13. nice betta (love your guppies too )
  14. great stuff Paul, you have done it again!!
  15. if you intend to breed betta, you should really need to have separate tank just for breeding purposes. male started making nest, female comes along and have eggs and males fertilised it. after that, when the male started protecting the eggs, remove the female. the male will guard the eggs until they hatched and when the babies become free swimming and wonder off for food. this is when you remove the male.

    Guppys

yes...you can put a female in a breeding if you like. but a trap would not hold the fry for much longer as the fry need space to swim and grow.

    Guppys

hi Jack, it is best to remove all the other fish out. i suggest another tank solely for the babies. when a female are due to drop, her vent will be open. you then put her in the separated tank (baby tank) and let her drop in there.
  18. i would cull these fish before they grow up to adult size. worst quality ever i ever seen. cant believe he claim those to be linebreed on TM.
  19. from what i heard Betta wont breed if they are too old. if you are to pick a your breeding pair of bettas, you want to look for young ones. not the dark coloured ones with really big tail as they too old for spawning. start conditioning the females first with live food or frozen food. i just them with my feeder guppies babies for the female. the female will swollen with eggs and be fat. if she is ready she will have vertical bars. male is easier to condition than females.
