    poly/stand

yep thats right rogan, mdf(medium density fibre board) is made from wood pulp and glue, all compressed and dryed, chip bord is the larger 'chips' of wood glued and compressed together. but be warned! both will swell and can crack tanks ,the poly can only even out so much, all it takes is a smal ship in the vanier and the water will get in. because of the way its made, when the water soaks in it returns the fibre to how it was before it got compressed. mat if you think there might be any give in anything, make sure that you add plenty of bracing!!,even go over board if you have any doubts, one center brace to me dosent sound enough for the whole stand. Tim

  9. thanks guys yes antwan, they are in a tank alone where they eat bagfulls of plant material!(realy fast eaters) they hadn't been fed alot of plant for a while, and about2 days ago i trimed of all of the excess indian fern that grows out of the water and gave them all that,im thinking that they liked this and decided to breed after having a huge feed...but just a thought anyhow. thats great paul!,good to hear you have them breeding so fast thats one thing you are realy good at Tim
  10. :bounce::bounce::bounce:WOOHOOO!!!!!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce: today as i get home from school i decide to go out to the shed and feed a few fish,n do a few things...and what do i see as i finish a water change on the apple snail tank,Eggs!!(yay). i now have a patch about 2.5cm long and about 1cm round glued to the glass above the water. they are bright red,and im absoutly stoked that they have finaly go their yellow little a***s into gear and have started breeding! oh and another cool thing my golden lineatus killis are hatching!had 1 fry hatch overnight...so sweet and sweet i have some cool happenings in the fish world Tim
  11. same as with caryl, I've had no problems with wood or rocks which have come from beaches... all I do is give them a good scrub if they need it,waterlog the wood and rinse the rocks...easy as that.. just recently i have been seting up a very large amazon tank and the wood i have in there has made the water a nice brown'ish' colour, and IMO it looks realy good!!,gives the tank such a natural, amazon like aspect to it. Tim

  18. i have exactly the same problem, well almost.... i have 8 of the huge yellow garbage disposals and they will not breed,i knew of a wellington club member who had them breeding a few years back...so all going well, knowing thats its possible....heres hoping mine will too oh and slow !!! realy? you should see mine when there on the move!!! Tim
  19. Thanks bill,i might see if i can track some down... my only other concern would be corrosion, being above saltwater in all, i supose if i had two strips runing the length of the tank and accross an end i would be able to position them close enough to what i want, and a smear of silicone over the solderd parts and heat shrink around the wires would do the trick.
  20. go the acatel db!! i bought these- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=48896400 off trademe, they have resistors to work at 12v,so bring on the acatel charger i did indeed, they are wicked bright and make an awsome moon light!!! i wirered them up in paralell, and dam are they bright!!!,wouldnt need many for your whole tank, for what i want im going to have them placed 1 over every 20cm2. now all i need is a good way of mounting them over the whole tank :-? ....any ideas....? Tim
  21. my cichlids get garden worms ocasionally, they dont seem to suffer any ill effects that i can see... get blood worm a fair bit so i dont see a problem there, unless they are gulping air at the surface when they take food, that could cause bloat could it not? im not sure what bloat is exactly, air in the gut aye?... if your realy worried about feeding them worm, then dont,if not...give them a small amount and see how they go. Tim
  22. dont kno about other peoples clowns, but when i was snorkling in fiji a pair had a go at me,realy agressive, and persistant..... well i supose i was kinda puting my hand right by there anenomne  but stilll.....they give a good dam nip...
