You have an excuse to get another tank now

    striatum

Well well...what do you know??! Great news Christine, back from the dead huh. Extremely nice pics Caserole (ps why is your name that?) and I also can't wait to get my hands on some. What kind of camera is that? (megapixel and zoom)
  3. Ahh I see...I assumed the eggs took longer than that to hatch
  4. This doesn't make sense to me... helicopter?? So you take him out with eggs, then put him back and there's 200 eggs...so there's eggs the whole time??
  5. Why no metal in the tank? I've tried a small tank with heater in it to keep the temp up and they all end up dying so this must be why... but what don't they like about it?
  6. They can handle 5.5 but 6.0 is better. Constant fluctuations they don't like, it's like for us going from high humidity to low humidity all day...we'd get stressed and sick eventually too. In saying that small fluctuations are fine. Your pH shouldn't change much at night if you turn it off because the plants stop using the pH and you stop putting it in, if it is lowering during the day you're probably putting too much in. If you test the KH and pH you will can find a chart that will show you your CO2 concentration and what the ideal is. You can also add baking soda as a buffer (raises the pH and KH) so it isn't so susceptible to pH crashes and fluctuations. You'd have to experiment with the quantities, but when you do a water change obviously then add back in a small amount. For my 4-foot tank (300L) i'd do a 40% water change and add back in 2 teapsoons.
  7. 2nd tank in from the top left? Bolivian Rams. Far left, Blue Rams. The Blue Rams IMO are much prettier, they have tiny blue spots on their fins.
  8. Yeah I saw those balloon golden rams...disgusting would never buy them. Sounds like I better take a trip to the goldfish bowl and see what these things are
  9. Just curious, everyone's saying the book is really great, why is that so? Does it give the various requirements like lighting, substrate, water movement for different types of plants?

    Amazon Tank

Man massive tank, sounds like it will be an impressive display mounted in the wall (assuming that's what you're doing). What kind of substrate are you going to use? Are you going pressurised CO2? What sort of lighting?
  11. I have bred panda cories... what I did was did a whole bucket water change everyday for a week with water that was the same pH (slightly acidic) but a few degrees celsious cooler. I didn't think it was working until I found 4 fry that were quite large. The eggs are quite big and the fry quite big when they hatch so can go straight on to microworm and bbs. This was also done in a small community tank with neons in it. Will try them by themselves in a dedicated cory only tank soon, will let you know how i get on. ps i have trilineatus too! the julii has more spots but i think the trilineatus looks slightly better too.
  12. Yeah must say I've never noticed mine doing it much and i have 5. Maintaining a weekly water change and gravel clean routine must help
  13. I ranted about exactly that here: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/3-vt10 ... l?start=30 great minds think alike... or wait is that another truism?!! argh

Pop eye cannot be cured, some believe it is a fluid build up behind the eye caused by poor water conditions/environment. Doesn't necessarily mean the fish will die. Have a look for pop eye on google. I had a neon once that had it so doesn't just affect these big fish.
  15. Will be interested to see this set up so thanks for posting. Try going "edit-paste" (your link from the http://... at the top of the page) instead of "v"
  16. first go to www.photobucket.com and set up a free account. They will host (store) your photos for you. Then you can link us to where they are held or they can appear directly in the post but they are still stored at photobucket. Hope this helps
  17. Agreed Warren, I use to get them quite frequently as a 'centre fish' but they just bug all the other fish all the time whereas they seem quite placid at the LFS. The suggestion may have been to use hose, split lengthways and hung over the edge of the tank...Alan the mod uses this idea.
  18. You know if there's one thing i've learned from University it is that analogies never hold up....there's too many variables......i mean, how clear is the map, does it resemble another area? what is the knowledge of the person using the map? do you assume they even know how to read one? I thought that one post i saw in particular about plecos was harsh, and shot down the person, in a manner i know they were previously shot down in....history repeats
  19. No they don't bury themselves, however they are very resourceful at finding hiding places. When I had 3 clowns i hardly ever saw them, with 6 they come out all the time, they are much more confident in larger groups as they are social fish. I had a couple of pieces of slate lying on the bottom of the tank and two of them had managed to squeeze in to some tiny gaps. They are also more active at night. Hope this helps
  20. Congratulations! Sometimes the hormones from one species of fish breeding sets off the others. You should get another gold nugget pleco and try your odds
  21. Well done Penejane you're obviously doing everything right exciting isn't it?
  22. dance of love or is that lust? argh same thing
