as long as you don`t stuff around with them and pick them up etc?just leave them to it,if they were healthy and fat they will be fine.Normal for them to move around even sun themselves on a fine day(males more so)
sorry to hear about this.More to the point what sort of UV lights are you using?ever had them tested(me neither)I do remember hothouse was selling some that had to be recalled because of too much uv and burning or something??I wonder if this could be something that we all should think about?
Food Medium 1: Mix bran and honey in a heated sauce pan. Add enough bran to make it stiff. Spread it on a cookie sheet till it cools. Crumble it up and place on the bottom of your container. Freeze any extra for later use.
Food Medium 2: Mix seven parts crumbled dry dog food with one part water and two parts honey. This medium should gut load your wax worms. Spread on cookie sheet to dry until no longer sticky – usually 24 hours. Freezee any extra.
can`t really see the point other than tying the end to the clothesline? Not as though they are going to keep up with you if you take them for a walk? You would have to travel at their pace which is pretty stop/start?
males are always more active than females and often take the opurtunity for a bit a rumpity bumpity?you often see them up on a sunny warmer day but the best thing is leave them alone. As the water warms up they become more active and once the temp is about 18 C you can start feeding. As a rule of thumb nothing after the financial year(31st march) and feed again labour weekend. This can be extended here and there after a few years and keeping an eye on the weather as in an extended warmer autumn/spring.
don`t pull them out of the pond at all!if they are still out there they will already be in hibernate mode and any disruption such as pulling them out etc will do no good at all?A bit late to be planning hibernation when we are 9 days shy of the shortest day?I also hope you have not been feeding them of late as they may still have undigested food in their stomachs which is the main cause of loss of turtles during winter. My outdoor ones have not been fed since late march.
