  1. nice one!!!! i have been staying away from the stores as i tend to spend ages looking at the fighters and working out how i will fit them into my tanks and how many bills i could stop in order to purchase the fighter and all the extras stuff im sure i need (want) also i am currently grow out my last few females and sell them on and i am also moving in the next week so having another fish to try and move healthily is not something i want to worry about anyways urs is gorgeous!!!!
  2. in regards to the fighters = the colder the water teh less movement u get from them - they really dont like the water too cold, sure it seems to prolong their lives if in colder water but thats only cos they dont do alot of anything - they go into a type of hybernation
  3. Hi guys I have some female fighters that will be up for sale soon if anyone is interested - you are welcome to come and have a look if you are interested. the colours are blue or teal just for anyone interested Cheers Alana
  4. do u have a filter in the tank? I found that with raising my babies that having a sponge filter was great at keeping the water cleaner and then you really only need to do the water changes once a week (topping up as required) do u have the BBS etc to feed the babies? if not the liquid fry is good but if using this then i would definitely recommend using a filter (as above) each fry is different in regards to the growth - just like normal kids really i have already sold off some of my fry at age of 4mth and still have some that wont sell for a while yet as they are still really small - all from the same spawn. anyways, congrats on the babies - its always fun finding you have more than u thought esp if ur thoughts were running at the nil stage.
  5. with them looking so alike there may be problems but just keep a close eye on things and if there is u will have to either remove the molly's or easier the betta..... (only one to catch) good luck
  6. i use the australian betta forum for all my betta info for any of u that may be interested - have breed my babies and looking at selling them now and trying again this site has been really good!!!!!
  7. he's a good looking little betta!!!!! how lucky he was that ur ma found him.. is he enjoying being at work with her?
  8. i just bought a plec for my large tank to try and combat algae growth on my plants - Animates here in chch had redspot, goldspot and albino ones - i could really tell the difference between the red and the gold but i think i got a red one and he seems to be enjoying the abundance of food that has been provided i had a little algae eater in there but he wasnt able to keep up so he has been moved to my little 12l and the pleco has the run of the large tank
  9. i now have two tanks in my room one on either side of my bed at the head board end...... a little 6-8L with one betta and another 12L with a betta, goldfish and a small algae eater i have got the tanks running on a small air pump that sits on the top of my head board = had to set things up this way as was having way too much algae growth in the bigger tank = sunny room/large window what sort of filter system do u run ur tanks on????
  10. i just thought i would add this to the forum as i will not be visiting it again until after the holidays = finish work today (21.12.04 - 05.01.05) I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday period with friends and family and that you all "behave" i will be doing a tour round the lower south island with a friend this year visiting places neither of us have visited in our lives here in the south island. 8)  so what ever it is that you are doing enjoy yourselves (your welcome to leave your holiday plans here as well ) Cheers Alana

    Tunzes Streams

love the pics = not a salt water keeper my self but still admire the pics heaps
  12. do u have any pics of this amazing little fish so we can admire him????
  13. i have to say that the animates here in CHCH are pretty good the info we got when we first set up our tanks was really helpful and i guess it helps that the staff they employ have their own tanks etc and know from experience wat can happen when fish are overcrowded or not cared for properly
  14. do only have the one cory or is it just one out of a few that is looking down? have you taken it to the lfs for them to see if they can see anything? Putting a fish out of its misery if its not in misery but just depressed cos its got no friends seems a bit mean esp if its not showing any symptoms of illness 'cept not hardly moving.......

    Spawns Bas

hi bas - neat to see some other betta babies - the blue ones look like some of my larger babies at the moment.... they are about 11 weeks old and they are my second spawn - the first lot all died!!!!!
  16. sorry about your loss, hope u are able to work out why was causing the water troubles so that next time (if there is one) you can fix it i guess at least he's not in any pain now.... if thats any consolation
  17. i would agree with the golden barbs - but definitely need to go for 6 at least they are best when they school 8) i have them in my tank and we bought six but they as they die off (and i havent had the chance to replace them yet) they tend to start looking at the other fish with a teasing glint in their little eyes  also the female fighter should be fine and again it is best to go for either 1 or 3+ if you pair them the dominant one tends to push the second one around a bit but as far as they go with other tank mates i have had no problems but they would really match your sizing query but they are bigger than tetra or guppies  have fun choosing
  18. fortunately for bettas they only spawn when i put them together and as the girl attacked my new boy just recently she's in punishment - being fed cleaned etc along with all other fish but she aint getting near my boys!!!! also if i have a few girls they will sell well as will my boys - which i think the larger ones are and this also means i can spread out the sales and enjoy the growing stages longer
  19. the other day i decided to give the babies take a really good clean out (has been having small ones with weekly water changes) so i caught as many of the big babies as poss and xferred them into another bucket i then went into the process of removing all plants and putting them into another bucket then started syphoning (knowing that there were little babies hiding amongst the larger stones) i focused the tube over there and managed to suck up quite a few of the little ones...... this is where the size difference comes in...... i have some that seem about right for their ages of 10/11 weeks but then i have some that look like they are only 3/4 weeks old = will post pics as soon as to show the difference......
  20. glad to hear things are looking up for the little fishy ..... i hope that will be a learning experience for your friend to listen to your advice in the future not to just throw a new fish into a new tank ........ but i guess we all make mistakes and this one has turned out for the best......
  21. These fish are fine scaled, they require very good water quality to thrive with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH (7.0-7.5), medium hard water, a large tank with open swimming space, subdued lighting. This is just the basic information i could find - hope some of that information helps in the decision of what to add to the water????
  22. how hard do u drop ur toothpaste, toothbrush etc onto ur sink???? i would think u would have to really throw it down ie when in a temper esp with the toothbrush???????
  23. hey nice fishies, how long have u had ur betta for??? hes a really nice blue i like him - my fav fish at the mo are my bettas and then my cory so i was really pleased to get a look at ur boy Alana
  24. hows the turtle doing? i have a friend who has a turtle and i can ask her any questions if you havent already found your answer or taken the turtle to the vet = which i would say would be the best bet = i know the $$ thing can be a bit off putting but perhaps if you advise them that its not yours and that u found it in the back yard they mite give discounted fees or even do it for free depending on how friendly your vet is...........
  25. i already have 3 tanks on the go...... i have managed to survive the weekend without purchasing another fish - and now that the weekend is past and i have no money left i am safe to visit the shop as i wont be able to buy anything....... once the babies are big enuf to be sold i will look at dividing their tank (approx 50L) up into about three different "tanks" and putting my males in there and then i mite divide the 20L in half and have another couple in there  and by then i mite have been able to afford another one or two tanks with all the gear and stuff to keep them happy and healthy and i can then continue to use the 20L as a baby tank/ infirmary
