do they both go pink in the body if they are paired up?

Last weekend I thought one of our cory's had died...had to take parents to airport so thought would get it when came home - but miracles of miracles I still had two swimming cory.....then Wed or Thur same thing happened re dead and now alive....but yesterday and today there has been some swimming on the back and at the moment it is straight up and down (tail down) and looks like its "gasping for air"......

great - so we are better setting up other tank - we think we have one male to 4 female - we got given some young ones by the neighbour whose kribs were in a large community tank and just kept breeding.... is the ratio above alrite for these fish?

do they do alrite in community tanks? we are wanting to start replenishing the tank again and dont want anything really hugely territorial...

r these fish classed as cichlids?

thank you....as you can see the tank has dwindled since I was last here - we have baby Kribs in our tank at the moment and the we have decided we are going to set them up in a tank of their own (sometime soonish) cos they pick on my cory and two little tetras - they have come to realise that they need to leave my pleco alone tho - doesnt take kindly to being dive bombed (hehehehe)

good habit to get into cos you will need to do a regular/daily clean once the babies are able to eat "solids" as such cos what they miss leaves a loverly mess on the bottom of the tank..... :lol:

very carefully - what is the nest attached to??? is there any bubs in the nest or is it just one in preparation for the big event? i used to just use a smaller hose that sucked slower which caused less disturbance that the normal large one

okey dokey long time no post..... we got given some kribs and now they have babies - how do u tell the difference between girls and boys (besides the pink tummies? - cos they dont always have pink tummies)......

unfortunately there will always be those who would rather do things the simplest way possible even after being told gently of the correct way and as long as the fish doesnt die on them they really dont seem to care - even some fish stores have them in the small containers and one store i was in even had them in "Quarantine" in small containers where they would be encouraged to become sick as there was only a small amount of water and no heating, aeration etc = so even those who supposedly know wat they are doing get it wrong

I was in animates on the weekend and they had more females in but they were under quarantine for about a week so they could be out by now (we know that some people tend to exaggerate time frames) so anyone close to Chch mite wanna go have a look again - looks like they may have come from the same breeder = same colours - mixes of blues, pinks, whites etc. they also had a couple of pretty coloured boys when i was there but they are probably gone now......

this unfortunately happens sometimes but are you sure they not just catching them and spitting them back at the nest????

while they are still really young they should be alrite but as they grow you will see them start to put their mark on each other as they try to show who's boss and then you will have to be quick to seperate them or u may end up with one or even none depending on how serious the fighting is.....

not all males will build a nest when theyare ready to mate - mine didnt second time round. It just meant alot of work for him cos he was forever chasing the eggs so i just made sure the water was really low so that wen the eggs hatched the babies had hardly any distance to swim to get to the top and the air.....

reckon - some males just dont know how to accept a NO not interested

could be that shes holding eggs or perhaps she is a fatty or there could be something wrong with her medically..... as to her hiding in the plants from the boy you need to get them accustomed to each other ie put the boy in a jar so that she can approach him without him chasing her for a "quickie".....some females take time to warm up to the males and sometimes they just dont click.....

Females can be territorial over the tank space and its very unlucky when they do fight. I have three females in the same tank and they get along alrite now tho two of them have been together since birth and the third i only just put back in with them after about a year apart so they tussled a bit at first but i think they got the heirachy sorted out now...... provide plenty of places for them to hide but you may still have to seperate them In general females can go together but like all breeds that have the aggressive streak you do need to watch and anticipate a seperation. good luck on keeping them together

fins shouldnt be a problem as you will find females dont have the flowing fins that the males do but in regards to temperament i would be careful. I dont have angels but definitely keep a close eye on them if u do try them out together..... i have my females in with a barb - who totally ignores them but if i had my male in with him the poor male loses alot of tail....... sorry not of much help but as with all combinations keep an eye on them to begin with and any problems sort out the situation real quick.......

i did one spawn and kept most of the fish until they were about 4 months old then sold/swapped them to fish shops of the ones i have kept i think i have one male and 3 females - the two i put in my dads tank have grown alot bigger than the female i kept i also have the male who depending on how u look at him is either blue or the greeney blue colour - teal

if u r after females the definite best way is to put in a request with your lfs and they can let u know wen they in but keep in touch with them and let them know u still wanting them cos i guess that if u dont they may think that u changed ur mind
