Yes I'm afraid some of what you said on that subject was, in fact, crap. Only since you asked. However this is a never ending argument because you will not say what your point is. What is it?
  2. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
More fudge. I don't need to be "stepped through it" Just say what it is.
  3. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
Layton if Chimera can do this on a zeovit tank would that help you put this crap to rest? If so I'll assist in whatever way I can.
  4. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
As I've already stated, I'm happy to answer your questions. But you must first tell me your point. If you don't have one I can't be bothered.
  5. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
Actually I was just showing you the flaw in your own logic. As for me, I got no problem at all with a brown coral if it's meant to be brown. I suspect the questions you have asked me are just more fudging, to avoid saying anything concrete about your iron theory. Nevertheless I'm happy to answer your questions, but to do them justice I first need to know where you are coming from. Please explain to me your iron theory. I know there must be more to it than what you have stated so far "elevated iron levels can cause corals to bleach" It's an 8 word statement, and one I would agree with. I don't believe you have spent the last 6 months argueing just over that surely? There must be more. Please tell the rest of your theory. I can't be bothered if you will not tell me what your point is.

See here is my problem with your always ambigious statements. In the above quote you seem to be hinting that iron causes zoo expulsion, and you have certainly hinted at that many times before. But a few posts back you said I arrived at that conclusion by "twisting" what you say. I am twisting nothing. Just trying to figure out what it is you ARE saying. So how about a straight up answer. What is your iron theory. Tell us the WHOLE THING in plain english. Just a straight up answer. Then there will be nothing for me to "twist". Will there.
  7. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
Again, please answer. 1. Is that your theory? 2. Is there nothing else to it? Be great if you could give a straight up, unfudged, plain English answer to Chimeras question also.

If the salinity is higher, do adjust it down. Bear in mind this will also dilute calcium, etc. These may then need to be adjusted. But do that after you added the water to the tank.

Hows the rock cooking going, are they done yet? Have your corals recovered yet?
  10. You can use carbon or not, a matter of choice. If you put it in the skimmer, be careful not to block the riser tube it is in, which will raise the water level in the skimmer and make it skim very "wet". What does carbon do? It is porous and therefore absorbs things. In a reef tank it will absorb many undesireable little nasties that are floating in the water, thereby making the water nice and clear, and the tank more healthy.
  11. Years ago when I repiled my house in gisborne, I made the piles myself, using pumice, sand, and cement. This was the procedure in those days to make the piles lite for dragging around under a house, made perfectly fine concrete. However as to impurities of reef tank significance, that will probably vary from one batch of cement to another. Unless buying a reef tank designed product it is probably not possible to know what may be lurking in the cement. Garf make concrete plugs for their frags, they first soak them in vinegar, then cure them in salt water for a couple of months. I think this is not so much to establish a biological filter, but more because new concrete can release major calcium / alkalinity and effect these levels in the tank. IMO the safest plan would be to make a few trial rocks, go chuck them in a rock pool at the beach for a few months to leach whatever they may leach, then introduce to the tank one at a time, monitoring levels and observing livestock carefully.

This is a typical example of you "hint dropping", never getting to the point. What is your point? Just say it.

A good job done well Fay!

"Elevated iron levels can cause corals to bleach". That's it? Your entire theory? Nothing else to it?
  15. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
The logic was, well, logical. to say otherwise would be, well, illogical   . But this is all a sideshow. As you have stated, before somebody debates something, they should at least have a valid point. So- Please explain your iron theory, in plain, unfudged, English, so a common man like me can know what you are on about. You had me thinking you were saying the iron was killing zoos, because you never say what you are getting at in plain english. So please take your own advice and do so now.

Layton you presented their research, it is obvious to everybody who read it you were pushing their viewpoint. The conclusion I drew was yours, because it was a logical conclusion based on data you presented yourself. If you do not believe your own data that you present, I'd suggest to you not presenting it in the first place. Stop fudging and beating around the bush. Tell us your theory, if you even have one any more.
  17. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
We have established you are obsessed with iron. But to enable sensible debate, you must tell us what your theory is. If you refuse to tell us your point, no point you bringing this iron thing up all the time. After all, you did say
  18. wasp replied to 0pius's topic in Saltwater
Opius if your tank is 3 years old and no coraline, it is highly likely your water paramenters are out, especially phosphate. Not sure if you have a test kit, but if not you should get one. At least it will cost you nothing to get some coralline from a rock pool and try it. If the coraline you put in your tank kind of sugars over and eventually dies, that is normally a sign of excess phosphate, which is a good possibility in a 3 year old fish only tank. There are things you can do to solve that, ask here if it is an issue. Anyhow, keep us updated.
  19. wasp replied to Fay's topic in Saltwater
Excellent. I always love to hear about one coming back.
  20. wasp replied to puttputt's topic in Saltwater
I see. So, according to you, Too many zoos = low calcificatio / stunted growth Too many zoos = brown coral Logically therefore - Brown coral = bad, no? :bounce:
  21. wasp replied to cracker's topic in Saltwater
Wow Craig! Hows the wife and family handling it? The storm not the NSW
  22. wasp replied to 0pius's topic in Saltwater
How old is your tank Opius? If there is absolutely no coraline in the tank, you will have to get it from somewhere. One possibility is to turn over a few rocks in some rock pools at low tide, you will find some with a good amount of coraline on the underneath. Put it in your tank and point a powerhead straight at the coraline. Have other powerheads pointing straight at rock where you want coraline to grow. There are some water parameters you need for coraline to do well, low phosphate is a must or it simply will not grow. After that, correct levels of calcium, alkalinty, magnesium, and strontium, are all good to have, although even if these are out of whack it can still grow provided phosphate is low. About all else you need is moderate light, it will not do well under strong Metal Halide lighting.

Nooowwwww I get it!!! Makes perfect sense! At last I can understand the secret way zeovit REALLY works!  .
  24. wasp replied to minchton's topic in Saltwater
You lucky you got an understanding wife though, if I pulled something like that, Id be more scared of my wife than of the fire!!
  25. Oh wait, I think I get it! It will be enclosed, right?
