  1. Yes I'll have to pass on my congratulations on those pics. That pink monti in particular, is remarkeable in a tank with a DSB. The only way I've been able to get mine like that is to have nutrients extremely low, plus a bit of zoox adjustment via some zeovit products. You're not secretly dosing a zeovit product without telling us now are you?
  2. OK, well you've seen the tank, the new one will be going in the same place. It's near a load bearing wall, but not right on top of it.
  3. My tank is upstairs, it's around 75 gallons counting the sump. I'm wanting to upgrade to around 130 gallons, just wondered if there is someone in these parts with the skills / knowledge, who could drop in & have a look and tell me if the weight will be OK where it is.

    To hot to handle

Sounds a good idea to me.
  5. Sad story - sometimes you just can't win. The white spot on him cleared up. But then a cowfish died overnight for reasons unknown. I removed the dead cowfish but the poison was affecting all the other fish. Frantically did a 100% waterchange and then spent the next few hours trying to keep all the fish swimming as they were just tipping on their sides etc. Wasn't sure if they can recover from cowfish poison but tried to give it my best shot. However eventually lost every other fish in the tank, including the powder blue. Worst fish disaster I've ever had, been pretty lucky up to now, this type of thing always happened to other people.
  6. The goby was from Jansens, but I've seen them at Hollywood also. If you ever get one of these or similar, including the one on that web page you posted, they can be difficult to get eating. The way to do it is to feed live just hatched brine shrimp, which they will take. Then slowly wean them over to normal food, mixed with the brine, and eventually discontinue the brine.

    Sick Bicolor Benny

Sounds bacterial to me. An extreme measure is to remove him and treat with antibiotic. However if your tank is healthy, which I'm sure it is, he should not have got this anyway, unless maybe he is getting old and prone to stuff like this?
  8. The fan will likely only keep it cool enough if you have the air vented to somewhere, not just recirculating.
  9. One fish that would be small enough, and also would be happy, in a tank your size, would be a yellow acropora goby, here's a pic of one of mine They are bright yellow, and spend most of the time perched on a rock where they can survey the view from, but they keep moving they have a great personality. Cleaner shrimp may find your tank a little small, but some rock pool shrimp (glass shrimp) should be fine.
  10. Oh that's good that post was meant to be a pm, I've edited it. PM already sent don't need to answer. Cheers. BTW I don't think it will be long till you have to take the pruning shears to thet leather
  11. Actually it's a nice little set up dude! Other than the space issues, which you will grow to loath. But we all have to compromise with the boss All up though it will look good & is well designed. What's on the other side of the back wall? Any chnce to put something like a cupboard door there to allow easy access?
  12. Vivekv you been smoking something?

On a similar thread on Reef Central 30 degrees (85 fareinheight) was considered the point where things will suffer and eventually die. All the different species have different tolerances though. I'd say Brians 29 should be the maximum you allow. Before spending megabucks on a chiller, try some fans. Now is the time, before summer, set them up, run them, and see how much they can drop the temp in your tank. I have mine on a timer, that in the summer comes on at 2.00 pm, which is when the tank room starts getting warm. The chiller is an emergency backup and rarely comes on.
  14. Still trying to figure out what Feelers avatar is - A hedgehog having a bondage and discipline session perhaps? Just don't know.
  15. Well at my age it's quite a buzz to actually master some of this computer stuff and find out how to make these avatars! Also made me realise how much stuff is actually in the tank when I cut all these things out of photos I've taken. If all that's in a small glass box then the ocean is a truely amazing place!
  16. Used to find the occasional one something like that at Pakatoa Island when I was a kid. We used to holiday there each summer.
  17. The tank fills up a lot in appearance as you put corals etc in. Better to start with what does not look like enough rock. I've removed around a third of mine and there is still too much in there.
  18. That was scary Fay! A woman never forgets!!
  19. Thanks both. Well yesterday he was REAL bad, wouldn't eat, and hiding against a rock quivering and shaking, never moved from it all day. I actually considered euthanising him just to end it all. But what stopped me was according to theory, with both hyposalinity and copper treatment, the fish should continue to worsen in appearance for 3 days as existing parasites mature, and then after 3 days they improve as parasites are dropping off and not being replaced. Yesterday was day 3 so I just hoped he made it through the night. So this morning I rush down to the tank and have a look, and he is swimming around. Greatly reduced amount of whitespot on him, his suffering is nearing an end. Yeah I really like this fish so :bounce: Slappers I'm going to try that Salifert product sometime, probably if there is ever a bad outbreak in the main tank.

    Poor old anemone

He will not make it under those conditions. At the least, you should privide a bigger container with at least one rock, some current via a small powerhead, clean water, and light. One way to keep the water clean would be to change from the tank once a day. Without all that his survival would be a miracle.
