  1. Join 'Killifish New Zealand' on Facebook. There are quite a few experienced killifish keepers on there.
  2. Make sure to filter it properly and cycle it. Don't buy any more goldfish, at full size 3 will be enough. Invest in a test kit, it will prove very useful.
  3. Have you tested the water yet? Maybe show them the possibilities of what fish could thrive in the tank, not just survive. Teach them a bit about a goldfish's requirements, hopefully they'll change their opinion. I recommend re-homing the goldfish and either getting some small temperate fish, or go with some community tropicals. Minnows, Platies, Guppies, A single Betta, and Honey Gouramis all spring to mind as possible species for your tank size...
  4. To be honest 55 litres isn't really enough for goldfish once they are fully grown. I would reccomend minnows/leopard fish, or go tropical.
  5. Do you often turn the filter off? It should be cycled and always left on. Do some big water changes and test the water.
  6. I recently reread this thread and liked this idea, so what do you think of this? Pair of Red Hump Geophagus 4 Spotted Metynnis 1 keyhole 2-3 Silver dollars Chocolate talking catfish + some bottom dwellers
  7. Is the tank cycled? Test the tank water for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. If something seems wrong a good rule of thumb is to do a water change.
  8. I recently bought some Gardneri Akure killifish from Rodney. They settled in well to their new home and ate Repashy first try. On their third day they laid eggs. The eggs are almost ready to hatch as I can see little eyes in them Hopefully they hatch.
  9. How's the tank going? Any changes? What brand of sand did you use as I'm looking to put sand in my tank.
  10. Maybe provide cover for her to escape to.
  11. Do you want fry? If you do either separate her or add lots of plants for the fry to hide in.
  12. Not sure, probably around $20. I will find out
  13. I have a tank you can have Its 13 litres, it has a filter & heater (25w) Free, just pay shipping.
  14. Found some more a few days ago, I have about 12 now.
  15. Not really, I had a male with nice colour, didn't last long after being caught.
