  1. I've decided to run with the tank i have for a few months and maybe get a stainless brace made up when we get our kitchen stainless bench made. (twobirds) then when i do a large waterchange i'll pop off the old braces and put on the new.
  2. Yip lots of shopping around. The stand is a steel frame clad in ply and stained, i didnt make the frame but did the rest my self. The tank was expensive as I had it made from diamante glass rather than normal glass, hopefully once its clean and full it will be noticable.
  3. the bracing on my 4 foot tank is very similair, does the job very well and is less intrusive than NZ's standard overkill and inconvenient norm.
  4. How effective would it be to put it under the tank embedded into the poly rather than in the gravel??????
  5. The what you spent today thread in the fun forums got me thinking so I figured I'd update the thread with the cost so far, I would have never done this with my marine tank as i think that in its self would have sealed my exit from the hobby all together. 4xDaltons aquatic mix 40$ 300W Stainless heater with thermostat 65$ 4m Heating cable 55$ 20l jerry can 17$ 360$ for the RO/DI unit 25kg bags of Grit for substrate 80$ One peice of wood 5$ CO2 gear 120$ New Filter 320$ (atmanuv2400) Co2 bottle 170$ CO2 reg 150$ 4" T5 light pendant 340$ Stand 300$ Tank 600+ (cant remember the exact ammount) Thats $2622 so far, i'm set for equiptment so far so now its just livestock. This can serve as a warning for those thinking seriously about a decent sized tank, its not only going to be 2 or 3 hundred to do it properly.
  6. Unfortunatly the SOG site doesnt give a url for each product, if you search for heater its should come up with it.
  7. Does anyone know how the heating cable that they sell here would compare to a aquarium branded item from a LFS???? https://secure.sog.co.nz/store.htm
  8. LOL, nope, the tank i have is great, and even with its current (and even by most standards minimalistic) bracing it looks good, Diamante glass with a nice depth front to back all on a stand i made myself. I just don't know if i want to go to the extra expense to potentialy ruin a great tank.
  9. The tank is already made though, so im just trying to perfect what i already have.
  10. Just managed to get another quote of $140 from an engineer from down the road. For that price I'm more than happy to go ahead.
  11. I just got a qoute from a stainles place here in the tron. 25mmx25x5 angle stainless to go around the top of the tank (1200x700) unpolished 265+gst polished 445+gst
  12. Which part are you having probems with??? Its pretty straight foward in italian if you need some help.
  13. Does anyone have any experiance in stainless fabrication as to give me an estimate of the cost? i need to make a decision within the week if i want to remove it.
  14. Took a drive last night up to auckland and picked up a nice peice of driftwood from Misnoma and grabbed 2 bags of dark red grit from hollywoods. I will pick up the Daltons Aquatic mix on tuesday night. We have put up the wall paper where the tank is going so now so all systems are go (other than drilling some quick holes and getting the daltons) I will have it full on tuedsay night or as soon as the RO can process enough water.
  15. I've been to palmers twice and they didnt have any, gave them a call today just to make sure and they have got some in now
  16. Have rung around a few shops here in hamilton and I haven't managed to find a shop that stocks it. Any suggestions?

  18. Problem is it sounds like they are an introduced species in that river.
  19. Just found an old pic of the tank prior to us moving into our new house and it getting grubby, it also shows the cabinet as well.
  20. The tubes are about smokey clear 17 mm tubes and it has some hard angled peices for going over the top of the tank, the intake has a overflow built in and the output is a fairly decent sized spraybar.
  21. I wish, kids have been popping up left right and centre for the last two years. Having some kind of disposal unit for them would be great.
  22. Bugger, i think you just convinced me to go with cardinals for my school.
  23. No plants yet but i do have a filter pic The model also does contract work for her agents contact details contact via PM
  24. I would like to completely remove the bracings from my tank. Problem - it is not a small tank. its 1200x600x700 (600 high and 700 front to back) I have seen alot of braceless tanks in recent times popping up on various sites, most are from ADA or similair in the states. Whats the go. ( i am expecting people to think its a bad idea but it doesnt hurt to ask)
