  1. hopeless pricks in albany plastic box said they aint got anything that would do that and showed me something that resembled floor lino... now thats smart thinking, NOT.
  2. it was meant as subtle sarcasm. how was i supposed to know that pies tank colour and this tanks colour were the same?
  3. and likewise, im not being rude either nor at any point did i ever say my tank was better (as currently, it is no where near this good). the problem with posting "words" - you never see the real intention behind it. i was merely implying while it is "nice" it's not my cuppa tea. personal opinion is all. apologies if any offence was taken jackjackjack!
  4. already done this - very thoroughly with white vinegar - made a huge difference to one of the pumps too. the pumps are submerged so there will be water in the tubes when the skimmer is submersed (and switched off). when it starts, i dont believe the pump has enough power to suck air down and spit the current water sitting in the pipes out hence the reason for an air-pump to assist it.
  5. in other words this colour tank is the same as your tank, marine blue.
  6. nothing personal but i'd have to agree, it's nice but not that nice. there's something missing - not enough colour perhaps? Mind you some pic's often dont do tanks enough justice and they look better when you're actually in front of it!

    my day

...pretty close, there was no array at all and the disk crashed so ghosted back from an ide image to a newly created h/w raid 1 but the ide had bad sectors  forced a ghost anyway then it gave me inaccessible boot device coz the drivers from the new raid controller weren't loaded on the ide disk. so, decided to rebuild but then found the vendor didnt provide a raid driver disk so had to manually create my own. talk about a waste of 5 hours... i'll have to go back and count the number of holes i punched in the walls...
  8. Just a thought,... my deltec in-sump skimmer has 2 air-tubes running down to the pumps. when first powering it up, I have to blow into them to get the pumps "primed" and start airflow going. i dont have a UPS yet to keep the skimmer going in the event of a power-cut (it would have to be quite a high VA = expensive) as a workaround, would there be any problem hooking up a cheap air-pump to the skimmer intakes to have it sort of "self-prime" when power comes back on? would the air-pump "pushing" air (as opposed to the skimmer pumps sucking the air) cause issues?

  10. This is the exact colour blue that I like (it's 'rainman mates 8 footer') Anyone know what colour blue this is?
  11. ok, the only reason i ask is the first two places i visited didnt stock it. will try mastertrade, they had just closed when i went there last night
  12. cool, but back on topic, thats obviously the one im after so wheres the easiest (prefer local retail store) place to get it from? just dont have the time to plan a special trip to a single store over in penrose!
  13. egg crate is not necessarily lighting diffuser (in the true sense of the word) egg crate has louvres in it which can disperse light. a true lighting diffuser is a solid translucent plastic with pits in it that causes light to disperse and scatter (although i guess egg crate could do these due to its design) i used a lighting diffuser 6 months ago in my bathroom at the bottom of my skylights. i guess an egg crate could perform the same job so in the industry they may call them the same thing which is where i was getting a little confused - thinking diffuser was solid piece of plastic and egg crate had holes in it. pies, what store did you get it from? was it a local wellies store - do they have an auckland "presence?" steve - i know the place in penrose just too far to go for some bloody plastic!!!
  14. bunnings didnt have the egg crates so offered me light diffusers instead. they looked too flimsy and not sturdy enough to hold around 70kg of rock a risk im not willing to take but thanks for the reply.
  15. where (or rather wheres the easiest) place to get this from? plastic box dont have it. ta.
  16. steve, im picking this is the fella who sells the barrels... http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/show_member_listings.asp?member=13708 might be easier for everyone else to buy direct from trademe if you need one (i know you weren't making a buck on them steve so thought you wouldnt mind ) just looking, there are a variety of drums here. the one with the sealed lid and two screw in bungs would be best for a boot. you could lie it down and fill it up by putting a hose into the top bung and poor in through a funnel. i'll get one and try it out! which leads me to another idea, do you think welding one of these to a trailer would be the go? http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/0004-0375-1512-/auction-13608393.htm

    feeding

450 litre refugium is bigger than most peoples main tanks (including mine currently!) no wonder you feed so rarely! here's waiting for my 320 litre refugium so i can cut down on "artificial" feeding too
  18. agreed, but he did say they varied so perhaps the $160 was a high price?! $160 nzd is $140 aud so only $30 difference.
  19. whadda ya need to know? im getting a 5 footer (1500mm) tank built right now and 'Pies' is getting an 8 footer made. im sure one of us will be able to help after talking to the "tank maker" Otherwise PM 'Warren' as Im pretty sure he's onto it when it comes to this stuff.
  20. thats why a few of us by offshore (im talking equipment, not necessarily fish)
  21. do i detect small amounts of cyano on that closeup pic - or are the bubbles just bubble algae
  22. pies - get SOME fish, give it some movement!! the whole tank looks more "alive" with fish (funny that) especially with your new tank coming up.
  23. thats more words than you've typed all year steve
