  1.   as in the picture is a little eerie. i actually touched the eerie picture up in paintshop pro as there was white sponges all over the glass on the left side. the hermit crab was a little blurred too so I sharpened that up too
  2. yes, a little hermit crab in an eerie (as in ghostly, strange, scary) picture...
  3. Post a pic of something in your tank other than fish, anemones, corals etc. Show things such as shrimps, snails, crabs etc. Include posts of anything a little different than the ordinary in your tank! Here's one of my favourite I took the other night, a little eerie,....
  4. chimera

    Carbon?????

i place mine between one of the baffles in my sump - so water passes through it - its just not forced through it like a filter
  5. this is just getting pathetic. im sorry if i upset your anemone, please pass it on my best regards
  6. heaps of computer companies sell eheims for water cooling computers. the cheapest i've found yet is: http://www.coolcases.co.nz slightly better pricing than andrews link they also do viaaqua.
  7. i have a 4 foot tank i use as a refugium for my reef tank. the glass for the overflow is on an angle at the back left corner. problem is, the top of the overflow (and hence the water level) is quite high. the water level is only a few mm from the top of the tank (this tank used to be my main tank and the flow rate into it alot less but the flow rate into it now is about 3 times as much hence the water level sits higher) soooo.... my question is, is it possible and if so, how can i cut the glass on the overflow without actually removing it? (want to cut about 5mm off to drop the water level) is it too risky to try it?
  8. coralline growth is a good indicator that your setup is biologically sound. but also... So perhaps not directly related to breaking down nutrients, rather indirectly! Also an interesting note regarding high temperature and temperature fluctuations. Its a personal opinion of the writer but a potentially valid theory nonetheless...
  9. dunno from a small fragment, but my purple mushrooms have doubled in size in the last 4 months.
  10. is any one corraline (colour) better than another? ie: if you had heaps of pink, is that better than purple or red? do they perform different jobs at breaking down crap or is it all much the same?
  11. pies/rnb, yes thats the plan. just want rock to be on sand for now to seed it. cheers.
  12. isnt that called algae,... if so, yes
  13. in that case you should expect to hit around 1200-1300lph with an 30RLT, sweet.
  14. Whats the static head that the Iwaki needs to pump?
  15. she wasn't serious surely?! there is nothing insulting about telling someone their anemone looks like spaghetti just read some of alan's posts and you'll see what a dry sense of humour (SOH) some people have... ironically, the same SOH as me alans posts crack me up laughing at the best of times  oh, and even if I did think it was ugly, its only a personal opinion. i dont care if you post your opinion on anything in my tank - i take it as constructive criticism. if its a personal attack, thats a little different.
  16. looks good bro - good to see you've tested the spraybars first. i will post my new setup once its tried and tested. i didnt like the results from my setup that is similar to yours above, but that maybe just because of the different flow rate of the pumps (eheim 1060's vs 1262's!)
  17. grease helps stop spaghetti sticking together. im sure your spaghetti looks and tastes nicer in real life.
  18. Interesting,... REF: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/april2004/invert.htm
  19. bollocks, i did it again TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT TRANSLUCENT... BTW, believe it or not but the dosing pump shown in the picture above quite easily 'sucks' water from the barrel over a metre up first!
  20. Is it worth while making a reef rack for the LR to sit on in a refugium? I want the "life" on the LR to seed the sand for now, but once shes up and running nicely, i was considering making a small reef rack and moving the rock onto it. The purpose is obviously to remove any dead spots between sand and rock, but is it really necessary? (I am also still considering DSB for the refugium too hence potentially more reason to do it?)
  21. I finally bought a barrel for topup water. Got sick of looking around for 2nd hand cheap. Paid $82 + gst for it - still, thats about half of what I got quoted for a similar size by two other companies. I made a stand tonight for it, polyurethaned it up and installed it next to the refugium. the plastic barrel itself holds around 180 litres from memory (maybe a little less) I opted for the largest I could get - got the room so why not. I bought it from rotational plastics in glenfield, north shore, auckland (I'll throw in a free plug because the lady was extremely helpful!) http://www.rotationalplastics.co.nz It covered all the area's I was looking for - material being plastic, width being less than 550mm, volume being as large as possible and "colour" being opaque so I can check the water level easily. Im in the stage of filling it up, RODI filter has been going for several hours and its only 1/4 full!!! The hose going into it is only a temporary measure until I hook something up properly. Sorry, not the best photo: Also, heres a shot of the refugium with extra LR. Photo taken at about 11pm so fuge lights are on.
  22. little white things all over my refugium and sump glass. they are tiny, white and round with little white hair things coming out the top. are they little sponges? good, bad or otherwise?
