  1. ??? dumping your old water there?
  2. that was the worrying part - I was just out of high-tide's reach!
  3. For your amusement... I found out the biggest disadvantage of using NSW today,... soft sand and a front wheel drive dont mix  I decided I'd try Red Beach today for water... 15 minutes later after numerous attempts to get out, the wheels got stuck deeper. Another 5 minutes later, a 4WD, a tractor, a policecar and about 20 spectators, my brother inlaw and myself managed to get towed out mildly red-faced - but I guess you just had to laugh  Now THAT was embarrassing!!!! Managed a 250 litre water change in the end though
  4. can you edit your first post and remove the links to the pics? the little xenia looks like its getting its light blocked by the larger ones.

you'll be looking at paying $900 - $1300 for 2nd hand. mine cost me $850 (for a 1/2hp) but that was a hell deal. if you buy new expect to pay no less than $2k. via aqua and aqua logic are a couple of brands that come to mind. pm jetskisteve and Im sure he'll be able to source one for you.
  14. i would still cover it up
  15. selling goods for profit where profit = covering your own time to import those goods, I consider supporting the hobby.

    DIY TANK

1000 high is pretty damn high. pressure certainly is dictated by height. I would imagine at least 15mm would be required. read this by Warren.
  20. I'll be buying some streams too as soon as some more money comes in Costly but proven. Im not into DIY as I tend to trust the thousands if not hundreds of thousands many companies invest in R&D. Not in anyway bad mouthing DIY, I just like well made quality products and theres no denying reef brings in some very good brands.
  21. never see anyone fishing at arkles?! compare arkles boat ramp to takapuna boat ramp. many collect from takapuna and have done for years. takapuna is an h20 highway arkles is generally very good, collected there for 6 months and had no problems. i have tested the water there and no phosphates or nitrates (not that seawater generally does) a bit of crude oil does wonders for your corals
  22. now now, tone it back boys. we're all in this hobby because we enjoy it, so drop the sarcasm. i like streams because they work, fullstop, regardless of price. to be fair, they are expensive but nothing else on the market (that I have seen YET) has the same reputation, quality or comes close in regards to performance or features (such as pulsing) so its simple. If you want awesome water movement, spend the money and get streams. If you dont, go diy and make your own on a budget that suits and best of luck.
  23. hey, i live in red beach and i collect from arkles bay. i collect their coz its quite "open" to the harbour (so water isnt "stagnant", Id imagine it gets turned over a bit) and also the boat ramp to the waters edge makes collection very easy. just reverse your car down nothing special to do to it, so long as you either use it straight away OR store it in the dark for at least a couple of months. its ok to mix ASW & NSW separately - so long as you dont add salt mix to NSW!!!
