    They are very good and all reefers rave about them but they cost a bit is all. Dont forget that by default these are 110V models so if you do order, email Josh on [email protected] and ask if they do 220V versions. Its probably better to send a PM to reef (Alois) and he will help you out better than most will. Im saving up to get a couple next year!

Make sure you get the right size depending on your pump. At least 3/4" but more likely 1" for the size of your tank. Here's a pic of mine in action:

  6. i would seriously consider if it were not for the price. better than 4 SCWD's at around the same price obviously, but too painful on the pocket for now. I would rather have a basic closed loop system and some streams
  7. coz thats the only place i could fit it for now i'll be pretty much leaving it close to where it is now. Its currently gravity fed and will continue to be gravity fed when its in its final position. Water runs from the fuge to the reactor then down into the sump. Im going to increase the size of the pipe between fuge and sump (as well as putting in the 3 way ball valve) I plan on tapping into that pipe to gravity feed the calcium reactor. The instructions said something about having the reactor sitting below the water level of the sump?

  9. thats certainly not the only factor, its $$$ more than anything. probably getting 2 x (2nd hand) iwaki 30rxt's, failing that i'll do the above. what i really want is two solidly designed SCWD's with threads built into them!!! stupid fittings on SCWD's i reckon.

  11. yeah well, seems to work ok. might go get some taps tomorrow for it. when i bought it, it never had any plus its missing the weir plate. still skims out heaps of crap though!

  14. who knows what the coil size is in a particular brand of chiller? a 1" inlet could split off into several smaller coils!
  15. completely depends on the chiller ira. for most chillers, 3000 litres per hour (790gph) is probably too fast. i do agree that there should be a minimum flow rate though. the flow rate should be within the minimum/maximum spec's as detailed by the chiller manufacturer. as an example, my chiller (1/2hp) has a recommended maximum flow rate of 300gph from memory. however, i have seen some chillers with maximum flow rates of up to 900gph so as i say, depends on make. see here for some general information: http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_chillers_heaters_teclima_information.asp?ast=&key=

  17. dolphin's come in 220V versions so no worries there otherwise i just wouldnt bother. i think i'll stick with two iwaki's, at least if one fails then the others still going. layton - im getting streams next year in addition to the loops. cant afford it yet though, just gotta wait til the rental property sells cheers guys.
  18. as suggested by pies, I was considering doing this: currently i have 2 drilled outlets (0.75" or 20mm each) and 4 drilled inlets (same size) I was looking at joining ('Y' pipe) the 2 outlets into a single 1.5" (40mm) outlet. Then, hooking this up to a big mutha pump then out to the 4 tank inlets. it could mean i can get a dolphin 4700 aqua sea AMP master pump (15,500 litres/hour) from here... http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=DP2470 This is approx 3,870 l/hr per outlet for US$300. I will look at how feasible this is tonight however wanted to get others thoughts on this? Anything you can think of that will be disadvantageous to doing this? (i can put taps on each outlet to turn it on/off or control flow)
  19. i wouldnt put the chiller in the closed loop, the flow rate is too high it wont have time to cool the water properly. im going to use a 802 powerhead to run mine. thats a big tank dude, check that the beams are directly under or at least near the tank above, and also that the beams are supported by posts near as well. that much weight is likely to bend the joists a little.

  21. sweet as. nothing flash here though, in-sump skimmer sitting on a "reef rack" to get it at the recommended manufacturers optimal height and the reactor is just sitting in a tank on the floor. check up again tonight and i'll put some more pic's up.
