  1. oceans motions 4-way unit arrived last night. i picked up the last of the plumbing for the setup today - that was certainly NOT an easy job - american's always want to be unique having their own thread types and plumbing fittings. the threaded pressure fittings were a very tight fit into the OM 4-way (probably more a good thing than bad!!!) anyways i have done a 'mock' plumb up on the lounge floor to check the overall footprint (and height) of the pump and OM. it fits very snuggly under the tank. i've taken some photo's but left my usb camera cable at work so wont be able to post til monday (unless i go pick it up) fingers crossed i have all my plumbing and the new closed loop should be running by the end of the weekend. looking at it, it looks quite crazy to be honest. massive piping and ball valves. cant wait til get this up and running.

    HELP

definately if you can afford, go for the Iwaki. I have an Iwaki MD-55RLT (pressure rated) which I bought from Marine Depot (http://www.marinedepot.com/) i found them to have the best price and service was awesome. Send them an email and you should have a reply within a day or two at most.
  3. steve - just getting a bit sick of it, as im sure everyone else is. brian/rnb - i'd buy any of those - even converted with 300% mark-up! freight's gotta be a killer though.
  4. so is there really a solution to all this? it seems to be the same thing being discussed over and over. i think if there is an online "marine" sales web site that is significantly cheaper than retail stores (as someone pointed out earlier, hardware = easier to buy, fish/corals = you really want to see them first) it would take off in NZL and probably change the market significantly. by this i believe the larger stores and hff's would change their marketing to sell online too. i believe they would still retain their stores as a 'pickup' location but prices would drop to compete. you always need a 'retail store' (or point of presence if you like) in order to get newbies into the hobby. its simply a matter of time before NZL follows the rest of the world in regards to online sales. again, i think this would more reflect hardware rather than fish/corals though.
  5. oh c'mon wasp, you're just as bad. Pies is not arguing, he is keeping a cool head and discussing the point in question or at worst, replying to your sarcasm. can we please keep this clean and in perspective? or do i need to quote cees link to forum guidelines
  6. i agree RnB,... UNLESS the fish dies because of the hobbyist's neglect or carelessness in maintaining the fishes environment appropriately. In this case not.
  7. depends what size. capacity of battery is measured in VA (volts x amps) i got a 2kVA (2000VA) for $200 second hand but that was a good deal. if you bought brand new you'd get a 600VA for about $300 - $500, 2nd hand you should pick one up for around $50 - $150. a 2kVA new would be over a grand easy. i would say if you just want to power your heaters and pumps, around 600VA or better for your nano. need to work out the draw on the devices plugged into it first though. go to trademe and have a looksee - just make sure they're not too old as batteries need replacing after a few years.
  8. looking good Ira, nice to see progress from your last shots. halide bulbs have most definately burnt in. on average they take 100 hours to burn in, one month at around 10 hours a day is 300 hours!
  9. and I congratulate you on doing that, serious. none of what I wrote is sarcasm, I was serious!!! basically, you are offering an 'option' to fix white spot - at least it's something for ben19185074 to consider. one little "laughing face" doesnt change that does it?!!!
  10. whatever, it wasnt personal. but if it makes you feel better... I have never knocked your garlic dosing as most others seem to have done... and exactly as you say, Im not going to say it doesnt work because I have never tried it and not read enough evidence to say it does or doesnt.
  11. Man you take sh#t seriously wasp... I was laughing at your persistence rather than the actual dosing of garlic and whether or not it works. Personally, my white spot comes and goes on very rare occassions; I dont dose anything, so personally, I dont really care.
  12. Not dismissing your point, but Im sure you would say that being a competitor. In bold above, so who did you hear it from? Rumours can spread quickly...
  13. it's coz u gotta nano right? less water so chances are it will cool down alot quicker - im assuming temperature was the problem?
  14. in that case, march 21st,... 2010

    coral growth

im going to try and create an animated gif file that shows coral growth of a particular coral i have (id below please?) first shot was taken 5th march, second shot was taken tonight - only 10 days later. you can make out the growth in just 10 days in this pic! i will add more frames to this every 10 days. it is not the easiest thing to do (unless i leave the camera in the same position) The image currently alternates between the 5th and 15th of March. You can see visible growth at the tips. Will update on the 25th! fingers crossed the coral/rock its sitting on doesnt get knocked off it's perch...!
  19. yeah i believe it is a very small layer of cyano. it doesnt come on anywhere near as strong as it used too at least - i believe the biggest problem is lack of water movement currently (none whatsoever near the bottom) powerheads are just aimed around the corals for now til i get the OM plumbed in. i think once the closed loops are done, i will probably still leave a couple of powerheads in their until i can save up for streams. it's a cost issue for now. will do a full tank shot once i have the closed loop finished and aquascaping on the right is complete. not really much to see zoomed all out at the moment as rocks on right side are just placed there randomly for now!
  20. a few more pic's I took tonight. tank, bottom left: My Blennie looking guilty after chasing a blue damsel around the tank!!! Blue Tang decided to come say Hi: Clown giving me a look from his anemone: Shrimp under BTA: The OM has arrived in NZL (at JoeBlog's ) now just waiting for that to be sent up and the plumbing for the loops can be completed!
  21. they gotta web site?
