  1. I thought they were common....
  2. Ambulia grows like a weed (I get about 1-2cm growth per day), sucks up nutrients as well if your looking for a nitrate sucker you can't go past duck weed. I don't like moss as it can trap fish waste underneath it and pollute the tank. also I find the twisted val goes mental if you have any decent lighting.
  3. those tanks SUCK for plants, get a glass tank an build it yourself I have seen several nice 30L planted tanks done with 2 or 3 desk lamps for a cheap option.
  4. wow after 8 weeks I woulda haggled a bit btw how big are your thumbnails??? they hatch out at around 3-5mm long soooooo you might have rather large thumbs
  5. personally i'd avoid blackout and deal with potential nutrient overdosing... blackout will slow the plants too much which will eventually outcompete the algae... btw how old is this tank?????
  6. Calcium Carbonate = CaCO3 approximately 40% pure calcium....upon heating becomes calcium oxide and CO2 (around 850 degrees C) if you feel like making it more pure.... then again, would test for phosphates etc... just to be sure

    Hello....

howdy and welcome to the best place to find cool fish in southland sounds like a cool tank
  8. Oto's knocked it back heaps, IMO it more from knocking it around before it got a chance, plus live bacteria solution overdose (I get it for free) also maybe find some freshwater shrimp (they munch it like there's no tomorrow) increasing CO2 and decreasing light doesn't sound like a good idea..... had a similar problem with a Cichlid tank, used Bioballs (Concentrated live bacteria) (love it when testing a new product actually works) cleaned it up in 1 month, in 2 months the brown stuff covering all flat surfaces had all but disappeared. now have only one or 2 puffs of BBA every now and then
  9. Ghost notes- Darkhorse check them out, awesome REAL (although strange) music.... http://ghostnotes.incrementalrecords.com/track/dark-horse love their stuff (although better when drunk)
  10. traffic cams are designed by people that make you want to suffer worse.... btw camtang, theres a newbie that looks like you and also Donnatello was the best TMNT
  11. WAR 40K rocks :smln: way too old to waste $$$ on it anymore plus I gotta spend $$$ on tanks and fishing gear
  12. Otocinclus LOVE it or they were my cure anyways, plus one small black line flying fox (SAE imo) more they knock it out of place so it can't grow properly can't reccomend a school of them enough

with the SI location I would agree..... although many otago pinot noir vine look like that then again you could almost argue for hawkes bay if it wasn't for SI on location btw looks like one of my polyethylene ponds
  14. btw those are about 2day old fry as well IMO adding meth blue when you take parents out is a good idea, plus turning the sponge filter to max as soon asyou see eggs will prevent fungus
  15. I'd pay $1000 for one the size of thiese fingernails
  16. dunno but easiest way to work with polystyrene is top make yourself a hot wire cutter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot-wire_foam_cutter at the bottom of the page there is a link to a few different designs. used to use these to make warhammer 40K models
  17. imo its best to seperate the females and feed them untill they look obese, losta live foods and high quality dry foods. eggs are kinda hard to see if you've never seen them before, less than 1mm across and clear. I avoid all feeding in the breeding tank as any uneaten food can promote fungus which will decimate your eggs. if they haven't popped in 3-4 days, best to start again
  18. one of our andscape boys got a big fright the other day when cleaning out a pond a 3 BIG black axos decided to walk ontop of his feet and make him squeel like a girl
  19. :happy1: :happy2: :happy1: party time
  20. a bit smaller than ram eggs, should go through though some may stick to the top of it. I find it easier to put the parents in a wide mesh net (small enough to hold them though) with a couple of marbles in the bottom to hold the bottom down. when they have laid then its as easy as picking up the net and putting them into their other home. don't forget to feed up the females heaps before hand as well
  21. polite???, is that when you say "Excuse me" after farting on someone??
