  2. Well your off to a great start, my advice would be weary of TM there is a lot of rubbish on there, it's not all rubbish but i found it better to try and by from breeders. There are some great breeders on this forumn or keepers who have a good idea of where to find good quality fish look forward to more updates.

    water treatment

exactly, not even sure how i would test to see if anything has been added, apart from the fish method, prob is i can,t get into the place till fri which is the day i have set aside to move the tank. Any ideas on what i could test for?

    water treatment

there is this stuff that is made by the same company that do the spray and walk away adds. It comes in a bottle and you dump it in the tank spose to get rid of any nasty bugs or contaminants that may have got in the tank

    water treatment

The new place i move into this week is on tank/rain water and i was wondering if i need to worry about wether the water has been treated with stuff that people use to treat tanks for giardhea (no idea on spelling this) and other bugs?

    200l drum

I,d assume that would be ok a few washes with soapy water and then a coupla rinses should make it tickety boo, does that mean you want to flick it? I think that was the guy i saw on tm david, only allows pick ups though and don't think i will be down auckland ways for a while yet, if i can make a trip out ruakaka i will see if i can find him wondering if it would prob be fertilizer drums being its mostly farms out there

    200l drum

cheers david, is he on the highway or in ruakaka? there is a guy in albany who is selling some on tm, 200l for $25 only prob is he only does p/ups and wont courier

    200l drum

I am moving house soon and the new spot is on rainwater so not suitable for my tangs. There is an old 200l plastic drum at the new place, its been used for plant rubbish by the looks. I want to use it to store water in that i have buffered for wc. Looks like an old fertiliser drum what can i use to clean it properly so it will be suitable as a wc storage?

    Acid tank water

i agree with hamster, i run my tank with aragonite substrate and 2 canisters with coral rock in the basket and to be honest my ph in the tank is the same as what comes out of my tap and the kh is the same so in think the limestone/coral/aragonite do buffer to a small degree but it seems to me that they do little to buffer water that is already around 7.6-7.8 ph. How have you found your homemade buffer hamster, i see heaps of conflicting info? is your ph/kh the same from each water change or have u had any fluctuations am interested to know as the expensive pre made buffers are basically the same as what you are using plus a few more bits and bobs. Even with the aragonite etc.. in my tank i find my ph and kh start to drop a bit by the time i am due a wc ( i dont use any buffers at the moment).

    Acid tank water

hardness refers to carbonate hardness or kh. From what i understand the kh is what will keep your ph stable. To test how hard your water is you need a kh test kit. Low kh will usually give you a low ph the higer the kh the higher your ph will be and the ph will be more stable. There are pre made kh buffers on the market but they are expensive over here. You can also make your own buffer with baking soda i think. This will increase your kh but i have read a lot of conflicting opinions, some swear by the homemade and others say they can cause ph fluctuations. I'm looking into buying some buffers from aus at the moment as i am moving house soon and the new place is on tank water so the water is really soft, will let you know prices if you are interested
  20. like the new setup fush look awesome, congrats
  21. Dude thats a lotta fush, tanks look awesome mate, great setup you have there, could watch the 8ftr for hrs
  22. how are you finding the lwanda, mine was a tyrant he took a big disliking to my albino rr and the albino eureka i had, they occupied a corner each while the lwanda patrolled making sure they stayed put, only peacock he got on with was the ethelwynnae.
  23. So what are the dimensions of the tank and how many fish in total, can ya post up some pics of your setup so we can give some advice
  24. Females do have some subtle colour. I am guessing that this shows up better because the Albinos have no colour on the body. I have submitted my application to the boss for the display tank, pending approval. May not go ahead.
