  1. I'm looking for a large clear glass or plastic container to replace the pure dew bottle as my refugium. Needs to be between 10-30 litres, sealable and take some pressure like a canister filter. Lid needs to be big enough I can get my hand in it (10cm). I had a look at some home brewing stuff, but they're not clear or the opening isn't big enough
  2. What is the legalitiy of collecting species that are managed under the QMS?
  3. I know that one called by a different name starting with an S
  4. Some photos. Current stock is: Ocellaris pair, Bicolour Blenny Lawnmower Blenny Six line Wrasse BTA Two snails You can see under the tank is a 10L bottle with rubble and Macro Algae.
  5. So I've made an external refugium out of a 10L bottle, a couple bulkheads and tube, and will use a pump in the tank to push water through. Just need to get some Macro algae in there along with some coral rock rubble. Anyone got some Macro that they could give me? will pick up depending on distance.
  6. Looks like it's a dud digital thermometer...
  7. Just found the tank at 22c :fshi: So that heater has been replaced with some spares. Heater was only use in this tank so I'll be visiting Ron to see what he can do. Lucky to get cold fish rather than cooked fish. :nilly:
  8. That you can give back after you're tired of it :slfg:
  9. I think it was a mix of ctenophores and cnidaria So I got a diatom bloom, then hair algae. Hair algae is dying off and I have a phosphate remover in there. My clowns have started fighting to determine dominance, the one with better black outlines looks like it's the more dominate one, restricting the others eating Have a turbo snail and a lawnmower blenny also now. Next addition will hopefully be a BTA then some frags. Would like to get some things like brittle stars and pods to live in there as CUC and food.
  10. Then they die prematurely
  11. I already have the ecology degree, you won't be able to do a research project on the possible importation of fancy shrimp, and you will also know the reasons why it won't happen (disease, invasive threat to native flora, fauna, water quality, and economic endeavours) One thing I've discussed with Ron is that just importing them will be expensive and have a high death count as they don't travel that well.
  12. So I collected more water at Takapuna on Thursday night before it rained, Just did a small water change, and noticed there are tiny jelly fish in it along with other zoo plankton, I removed the jelly, but is the other stuff ok to put in the tank?
  13. So last Sunday it was all 0, so I set the tank up on Monday, and found the sump amplified and made more noise than desirable. So I removed the sump, stuck the skimmer, heater and an old internal filter with nothing in it in the tank where the overflow fitted. Got a small Six line Wrasse and two little Ocellaris Clowns on Tuesday, and after a small spike in Nitrite(0.25ppm) where I did 3 10L water changes a day, it's was all back to 0 on friday. All is good in the tank so far.
  14. I've been using cubes of frozen mysis shrimp, just one a week
  15. Collected 170L of NSW late lastnight. The ammonia levels are almost zero even when adding food, but the nitrite levels are still up. I add a cube of mysis when the ammonia drops to zero.
  16. I ran a CF1200 on a 110L tank, you could go with that. Not heard anything about leaking
  17. Stocking I was thinking, and subject to change: 2 x Clowns 1 x Sixline wrasse 1 x Goby/Blenny, something like a Golden Headed Sleeper or Orange-Spotted Prawn or Canary Blenny or Rainford's Goby 1 x Citron Goby 1 x Anemone 1 x Zoanthids 1 x Toadstool 1 x Xenia Shrimp, snails, Hermit crabs, maybe a lobster, maybe a clam
  18. 1. Avoiding algae and diatoms 2. Don't want an empty tank in the lounge too long. 3. Haven't collected the water yet
  19. So I have the rock in a bucket Cycling with some mysis shrimp for food. A few days ago the Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate were at 1.5ppm, .5ppm and 5ppm, today they're at .75ppm, 1ppm and ~20ppm so it looks like the rock is cycling :happy1:
  20. It's also why I built it short, only 50cm high.
  21. It stayed in place as a freshwater tank for about a year without falling over, I'm sure it's not going to fall over now. There is a sheet of ply on the top and 6 screws in each corner. Also, I did study engineering for a while, I know how to construct something strongly
