  1. Hmm fair enough, but the bottom two are males?
  2. I've been feeding them 3-5 times daily on frozen bloodworms, decapsulated brine shrimp and flakes. The other two are Definately females much rounder.
  3. I've heard they can't eat bbs and micro worms until they are 1 week old, and they hatch after about 24-48 hours. @Zayne yeah ive seen that video as well. Thanks I've got one female who is gravid. Will she just drop? Considering I've got 3 females in the tank and by the looks of it 3 small males ( I think they're males). Thank you Alan and Zayne
  4. Yeah that was what Im thinking. Thanks Zayne. Also I heard you can feed new born (free swimming) fry with infusoria. So after some research I heard you can use some tank water in a jar with some turnips in it leave it for a while, it goes cloudy and this is infusoria? And can you use parsnips instead of turnips? Or any other methods for feed new born fry? I have also heard of feeding diluted egg yolk. Has anyone tried this? Thanks
  5. Hi I'm going to be giving zebra danios a go at breeding but theres one fish that I'm not sure of the sex. If anyone can help thanks! Vertical shot Horizontal shot And these two look to be makes to me but they are only about 1" - 1.5" long. Are they mature? Thanks!
  6. Yeah it should be right but remember the bacteria need some gunk, because it is ammonia and it eat ect.
  7. I guess so but it's a bit unnecessary. Because if its getting clogged after a week then youre either over feeding or somethings wrong. I havent cleaned my filter in 6 months and it still has decent flow. The bacteria on the filter wool wont die. Does your internal filter have any bio media like noodles?
  8. Ok this is off the top of my head so... Essentially, nitrates in the tank are the same in the filter. Ammonia is fish waste. Bacteria then eat this ammonia and excrete nitrites. New bacteria then form which eat nitrites and excrete nitrates. Water changes reduce nitrates. These two kinds of bacteria are found all over your tank from in your filter to the gravel and ornaments. When you wash in tap water the filter it kills the bacteria, or at least destroys the culture. This is why you use tank water to clean the filters so it does not kill the bacteria. The gunk is waste, ammonia, which is constantly being broken down. The gunk is there to feed the bacteria, the bacteria then breaks part of it down into nitrites to nitrates. It is okay to have this gunk anywhere in the tank the filter just makes your tank look cleaner. If your nitrates are still above say 10-20ppm then maybe do more water changes. I have a turtle tank and he (turtle) is a waste monster. Aparantly for every 1g of food they excrete 5ml of waste. I never have problems with nitrates. Once per week gravel clean and 20-40% water change. Depending on my mood. In theory if you have plants they also consume nitrates (to what I've read) so you shouldn't really have problems. HTH
  9. Snails won't work, puffers will eat them all or if they are MTS the may break their beak. Edit: I remember when I did my research when I had puffers, ottos work well. HTH
  10. 1. Make sure it's rounded gravel either wise it might get injured 2. IMO I don't think it will end well. Either territory issues or one will beat or eat the other. 3. Pass 4. Glass catfish prefer temps of up to 26C do best in groups as ally said. Like plants Unsure of size I'd guess at 15cm
  11. :bounce: I tested the water for chlorine today using a pool test strip and it was under .5ppm. I did cut some black silicone off it to get the lid of it. Could this be the smell? Or could it just be the filter as its new? Matt
  12. Red Ramsorn good for feeding dwarf puffers

  15. Ahh I saw you! Edit: geez, I never thought it was so bad. Can you see the turtles at the aquarium? Hope you are ok Donna.
  16. Hi Thanks for the reply, I guess I forgot to add I did add about 10 turtle pellets, which should feed the bacteria there was also some flakes in there because I was feeding the fish at the same time. Thanks Matt
  17. Hello Yesterday I set up my new tank. I had rinsed the filter before I put it in. I added tank water from my main tank and filled it up about half way. The rest I filled it with dechlorinated (using API Stress Coat), so it was about a 50:50 ratio of tank to tap water. I then opened up my filter on the main tank (cycled) and removed a filter floss and some noodles. I transported them in some tank water. I removed the carbon from the filter (it's a delta 20 classic) and the noodles already in there. I then added my "cycled" noodles into the two trays where the carbon and the noodles that came with the filter were. I added some sand from my main tank to assist in building a Bacteria colony. Today I was looking at it and smelt something, I asked my dad and he also said it smelled, like chlorine. So I took out 10L (half) of the water and replaced it with water from my main tank, and added some more dechlorinator. My questions: 1. Adding this media will help shorten the time to cycle a tank. Right? 2. What is this smell? I know it's a bit ridiculous to be asking but is it the dechlorinator? 3. If there was chlorine in the water, does this mean I will have to replace the media in there with new cycled media? I know it's all confusing but if there's any grey spots please ask. I am trying to cycle the tank properly but quickly. There is no livestock in the tank. Thank you Matt

  19. I shall be watching it
  20. Yeah I guess so, but as you said it's really expensive compared to plastic, and it's more difficult to work with in some aspects.
  21. Pics aren't working for me Edit: Is now, and yes it does look very yellow
  22. A link to look at http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3963 Pretty basic, but I was thinking just build one like the actual ones. Or something like this video
  23. Hi I have been looking at mesh for my tank also. Absolutely nothing metal. It will rust and kill your fish. Plastic mesh is the way to go. I have seen some YouTube videos of breeders using a crochet mesh thing. I haven't been able to locate any though. I was thinking about building a frame our of Perspex or something and using a flimsy plastic mesh, the kind you get when you buy nuts or mandarins red in colour. HTH
