Hi Tommi, Good to have you here under 'any' name. Also nice to see you have met some of our great members Regards, Bill.
  2. Thanks Ballistic... I wasn't sure. My little (hardly used bottle) has a Brooklands sticker on it and looks many years old he he. MB = Methelene Blue Bill.
  3. Hi LB, Might be a bit hard to find this on its own (not really sure.. don't get out much).. but the idea of adding MB to your eggs is so that they won't fungus... so any anti fungal med would do the trick. Bill.
  4. Hi Ballistic, I think this is what you are referring to.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?t=334 HTH Bill.
  5. Yep... Been a while since I have visited CT.. and the NZ Fishroom logo will always be on my site where it has been since day one. Just as well you remembered it he he We seem to have lost a few of the crowd from CT, but there's still a number of our members that are dedicated to them, and we seem to be getting quite a number of members from the States. Been a lot of new info and extra forums added since your last visit, so there's plenty to keep you occupied :) All the best
  6. Now THAT has to be a record for a lurker Well, you finally made it, and we hope you enjoy your visits. Bill.

Hi Funkfish... Welcome to the Fishroom, Hope you find lots of interest here
  10. I think the stop producing due to the buildup of waste products, that the worms must produce, and of course the greater the numbers, the more waste there is. Seems like re-seeding every two to three weeks is the way to go if you want continuous supplies.
  11. Yep... Just like I waste my time reading most of the posts in the Marine Section here... but don't keep marines You guys have a great section here for "everything" you want to talk about, and "yes".. it is getting a lot of posts each day.. so why not build on the base that is there "already" for you, and post articles for beginners that will take them through the hurdles they will face. YOU all have the means to make the section grow without resorting to a seperate forum. What about some FNZAS Fishroom feedback links to all these fancy forums you visit..? These forums were built on a need.. a specific need.. where each forum has a purpose, which is why Cees gave you guys the Marine Section. Don't complain... make it grow.. encourage others to come here, and when the "need" arises then.. who knows Regards, Bill.
  12. Chim said, And "personally" I think that very few.. (either fresh or saltwater) would welcome THIRTY SIX different forums, as your recommended site has. I also think that most members that use the Saltwater Section are relatively new to the hobby, and as pointed out, there would only be a couple of handfuls of them, so why split it... after all, it is doing a great job as it is.. as far as I can see. I've been with freshwater fish for almost fifty years.. but "every" day is a new start to me, as there is always something new to learn, so in a way we are all "beginners" in one way or another, but we don't expect special sections for every aspect of our hobby on every forum we visit. Regards, Bill.
  13. They won't survive on yeast alone Luke. See here in the "All about Live foods" bit. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/grumpygr/ I have another formula for feeding which is a bit more simple if you want to email me.
  14. Hi Luke... Great to have you join us. Lots to read here, and heaps of members ready to answer any questions you have. It's amazing how many people don't know about this amazing place we have here.. so spread the word and tell your mates Look forward to your posts, and pics if you have some.

Hi Greenboy, Well.. You found the right place for all the info you need. Welcome to the NZ Fishroom First thing is that if yor setup is only three weeks old, then you should refrain from adding more fish at this point. Take things VERY slowly, as the biggest mistake that newcomers to the hobby make is overstocking their tanks before they have had the time to become established... which could take several months. The general rule is, "Big changes... big problems".. and overstocking your tanks in the early stages is heading for disaster, so just take your time and add a couple of fish every month or six weeks until your stock level approaches its peak. ? This of course will depend on the size of the filter, the type, and the amount of work it has to do. The filter needs to become the home for the good bacteria that are going to live there, so you have to treat it with great care. Only "RINSE" the media in a container of old tank water, and never under the running tap, or using hot water, as this will immediately destroy the colony of bacteria it holds. There's lots of topics and articles about this subject in the Beginners Section, or check my link below. Great to have you with us, and hope you enjoy your visits. Quite a few of the members are in the chat room on an evening around 9pm if you fancy a chat
  16. See here. There's a decent article on making a hatcher. http://www.seahorse.org/library/article ... uide.shtml Bill.
  17. :) Was mentioning the frogs to the grandkids, and they said... "We have frogs in the cattle trough in the paddock grandad... green and yellow ones,," I had hear them... but not seen them.. but obviously the grandkids knew they were there Bill.
  18. One of the major probs is the length of the gonopodium (sp).. the sexual organ. Often it is so long in highly bred fish that it becomes useless in the act of reproduction. Swords and Guppies show this to a great degree. Hybridization could also be a factor, which I understand would as mentioned, make them sterile. Bill.
  19. Just found out that the frogs are frogs albino African clawed frogs. Thanks, Bill.
  20. Thanks for the input guys, and thanks for all the details Inter. A guy from West Scotland has them, and has them in with his fish in a tank. He has fish probs, which I thought may be caused by the frogs. Topic is here... http://aquaprobs.suddenlaunch.com/index ... 1095019525
  21. Had an enquiry about having frogs with fish. I know nothing about frogs, but would be interested to know if they expell any toxins, or their waste products could be harmful. the member said... Any ideas what these might be..? Thanks, Bill.
  22. What you need is the 20mm reducing bush.. or bulkhead fitting.. with the 15mm female thread. Then get the 15mm M and F 45deg fitting which is standard to screw into it. Both are standard at any decent plumbing supplies. Bill.
  23. Nice to have you join us Jackie. Hope you find lots of interest here. No prob with mentioning other forums by the way. You can always give the NZ Fishroom a mention next time you visit... if they will let you Come and join in the chat room around 9pm and meet a few of the members. Bill.
  24. Hi Alana, welcome to the NZ Fishroom.. glad you could join us. Heaps of members here from down your way, and you may even know a few. Be nice to see some pics of your fish if you have some... they sound great, and it sounds as though you have got the Betta fry over the first hurdles. You can use the Trading Area here if you need to look for filters and stuff for your extra tank. The gang will be along shortly to say hello, and there is quite a crowd in the Chat Room on an evening around 9:30pm if you want to meet a few
  25. Sorry to hear about your loss Oscar. When fish get to that stage it is hard to diagnose the problem, and often there is no magic cure that will save the fish. How do you know it was a female... Had they spawned previously...? Bill.
