  1. Ok so the vet phoned yesterday afternoon to say all the bloods came back normal and there was just a slight change in the urine .. whatever that means :dunno: Apparently her liver and kidneys are fine. She said we can either monitor her and go from there or we can book her in for a day and have her blood pressure and heart checked out. Since she hasn't been doing the nipping thing since we have come home from staying with my parents on Sunday evening, we're just going to monitor her for now. If she does it again, then I will book her in for the day. And I've put water down with their food again, but don't think either of them have drunk any of it. :dunno: They do spend at least half their time outside most days so they must drink water out there....
  2. Sorry Josh didn't see your first question. My fantail goldfish is temporarily with my minnows and guppies because a cat got my chocolate fantail from the pond so I removed the blue/silver one and put him in the tank to save his/her life! When I realized that the guppies have Ich I decided it wasn't a good idea to move the goldfish, and he/she might have Ich too, so I'm treating the whole tank with tonic salt and I've raised the temp for the guppies. The goldfish seems fine. I have a Bubbilo pump with a starfish airstone in there for him/her which is on the highest setting so it's pumping as much air/oxygen into the tank as possible, to be on the safe side. All the fish seem happy. Now I just have the problem of what to do with miss/mister goldfish ... leave him in there or when I get my new pond (bathtub) set up, put him out there. But because the temp in the tank is higher now, I don't want to shock the goldfish.
  3. I don't think it can be Josh :dunno: All it has is the dial on top that is where you set the temp and the range is from 19-30C. Last night the thermometer was reading at 28C.
  4. Yup the heater is new and the thermometer is also new.
  5. I think I'll stick with this one. It was up to 28C last night. I turned it down until the blue light went out (yes it did turn off so it must be working lol) last night and when I got up this morning it was 25-26C. All the fish are happy though. I'm sure 28C is high enough for fancy guppies anyway right? My plan is once the ich is gone, I'm going to get just one fancy guppy to begin with. Will see how he/she goes.
  6. Apparently now it's 27C and the fish seem happy and fine... I've put my finger into the water and it's not that warm IMO. The fantail goldfish was hanging around the heater for a long time today. Like right next to it and I'm sure it was actually touching it :dunno: Yes it has a blue light which never seems to turn off. It's on all the time.
  7. The heater is 100w, the tank is 64L but I have no idea what the room temp is sorry. Apparently now the water is 27C....
  8. I already have an airstone in there. Now the thermometer says the water is 25C... and that's with the heater on 30C which is as high as it goes!
  9. Well now the water is apparently 25C.... I don't think after so many hours that it's going to get any warmer. Strange. I have it on 30C still. Oh well... I guess 25C is going to have to do
  10. I checked the temp on the thermometers about half an hour ago and the normal type thermometer that goes in the water says 24C. The black strip sticky one that goes on the outside of the tank says 23C.
  11. It didn't have a manual or any instructions with it! Just had a picture on the back of the packet that shows it in the water. :dunno:
  12. I just got one and my tank is 64L. I've been slowly raising the temp since last night from 19C to 30C and it's on 30C now and the thermometer says the temp is 23C? :dunno: I have two thermometers.. one is a stick on strip one that goes on the outside of the tank and the other is the normal type that goes in the water and sticks on the side of the tank with a suction cup.
  13. Well all the vet could tell us was that Mischiefs heart beat was irregular (Erythmia) and she took blood and urine and I should get the results by late this afternoon.
  14. Ok so I just turned my heater up to 30C and the thermometer only says 23C :dunno: How long does it take for the heater to warm the water up to the right temp? It's been about half an hour or more. The heater is a Fluval M100 submersible one.
  15. Well I went to Animates on Saturday and got myself a Fluval heater, Bubbilo pump and a starfish airstone and two thermometers. One is a stick on strip one and the other is a normal type thermometer that goes in the water. I'm a bit stumped... I have the heater and the pump going and I set the heater on 20C at first but the water was still cold so I kept turning it up slowly but it was still cold and I think it's on about 25C now yet the normal type thermometer is saying the water is 22C and the stick on one says it's 21C I think. :dunno:
  16. I have rocks all around my pond. Didn't seem to stop the cats. Oh well lol
  17. I don't have a pump though, just a filter. You can't use airstones without a pump right?
  18. Ok well on the net it says that if the tank is at 25C the lifecycle of Ich is over in one week.... so if that's true I will slowly raise the temp to 25C. What about the goldfish? Will it be ok?
  19. Nah he/she isn't big enough. Mouth is still too small to eat my guppies or minnows. And seems totally uninterested in the other fish anyway! It's just one particular guppy that seems to not like the goldfish :dunno:
  20. I'm going to get a heater hopefully on Saturday and have it at 21C. I would have it higher but I have minnows in there too.
  21. I know Caryl. That's the reason for the water changes daily. I've read about it. That's why you're supposed to keep using the salt for 7 days afterwards.
  22. He/she will probably have to stay in that tank until I've finished treating the guppies for Ich, incase the goldfish has picked it up. After that it will be moved into it's new home outside again, in the bathtub Thanks Caryl
  23. 1) One of my wild guppies keeps nipping at my fantail goldfish's tail. Should I be concerned? The goldfish is only in there temporarily. Can the guppy actually hurt the goldfish? 2) My goldfish has 2 tears - one in its top fin and one in it's tail. Hence the reason it's temporarily in with the guppies and minnows. I had it in a pond outside, with another one which has gone AWOL. I guess one of our cats or a stray took it and tried to get the one that I managed to rescue. The tears look like they are healing. Can they do that? I was hoping that they would.
  24. Oh well it seems to be working well anyway. Once I can't see any more spots and I've done the salt treatment for 7 days after that, then I'm going to get some chemical treatment from the LFS just to be extra careful. It does seem to be doing the job though, as the spots are disappearing fast and I haven't got any casualties and no fish are lying on the bottom of the tank waiting for the end to come  They're all happily swimming around.
