  1. Thanks! Looking at the previous shots the only thing that's not growing is the stem on the right next to the stargrass. It's been spreading at ground level but not going up. In my other tank it's a beautiful red/pink at the tops and grows vertically like crazy. I wonder what it's missing at the moment? Maybe the magic juice from p44 will sort it out
  2. Thanks and yeah, both parents were local stock - one from HFF and one from a breeder in Avondale (which may have been the source of both). I thought I had lines of both stock but I was mistaken. I was wondering if there were any females left in the new imports - might go shopping tomorrow.
  3. the cockatoo or the agassizi? either way they've both always been orange. I'd like to see them with a bit more red in them actually.
  4. Yeah, I was very surprised that the imported ones had bred for the previous owner. I'm a bit concerned about putting them in the same tank as my breeding pair as I suspect they're technically a different breed in the same genus (which would explain why RyanJury's female got the crap beaten out of her in the same tank).
  5. FTS as requested - The tank from a couple of weeks ago before I got the ferts and co2 sorted. It's coming along nicely. Thanks to all who have helped so far. I just need to finish with the river stones, put the wood back and add the black sand in the front (in test phase at the moment) and it's done!
  6. Thanks guys. I really like these shots. For the first time ever I've managed to get the point and shoot camera to behave. FTS coming to this thread in the next 10 minutes.
  7. :cofn: These are the local bred ones, actually this is one of the offspring from my original pair. I just picked up some of the original imports that are a year and a bit old and they're about half the size and a lot darker. I really like them but they've got nothing on this guy for colour and size. ps. sorry for spamming these pictures, i just took them for Joe and thought it was relevant.
  8. I'd love to come this time but I'm on solo parent duty for the week so it'd be a bit too much of a mission. I'm still yet to make it to one of these meetings though so I'd better make sure I'm available next month.
  9. I thought low tech suggested that you wouldn't be adding ferts? If you're not getting algae and the plants are healthy and not dying then I'd say you don't need it. But I'm not a fully qualified plant nerd yet so maybe someone else can answer :rotf:
  10. Mine have only ever laid in community tanks so they're comfortable in sand. If you were breeding them in breeding tanks like alan is suggesting then a bare bottom tank with 1 plant would suffice. I suspect you're just trying to encourage them for the sake of it rather than to actively breed them on a semi-professional scale in which case a bare bottom tank is not needed. Just keep them happy and they'll get around to it. Maybe put on some Marvin Gaye or Barry White, light a candle on the other side of the room and see if that helps  :slfg:
  11. Just picked up some magic juice from ryanjury's place that p44 put together for me. I have high hopes for a jungle tank coming up.
  12. You may find you already have some. They're not easy to spot in moss / plants. If it hasn't happened yet it will do soon.
  13. thursday is water change day on the big tank. didn't change any water today - had a sick kid and a meeting to attend at work and after that I didn't have the time left in the day. Played Operation Flashpoint on the PS3 after dinner. Sweet sweet spacies.
  14. Good luck You're simulating a big rain by adding cold water (if you wanted to know) and I found anything up to a 50% change was fine for the pandas and they love the chill. The angels in the same tank don't like going to 23 degrees and back up to 26 in one day but I'll rectify that in the near future.
  15. Thanks, I'm realise I'm being cheeky and opportunistic but if you don't ask you don't get right? Best option is it fits in the stand and all you have to do is buy a pump and some media and you're away.
  16. Oh is that the trick? Soft focus can hide a bit of fat but it doesn't do a sump any justice.
  17. If you can grab the sump for nothing but don't want it I'll give you $20 for it ( or whatever you think is fair ) as I'm having sump issues at the moment and don't mind cleaning old tanks and resealing them.
  18. Did you raise the lights back up or is this the new level? It looks great! I'm considering lowering my lights but that won't be for a while yet.
  19. I paid $30 for my first pair. via breeder though so no retail pricing added. I've since paid $30+ per fish retail. I think with the rarity of these on the market they're priced well. Especially if these are imports.
  20. Yeah, that would have been awesome. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh actually. Next time I'll advertise my travels a bit more in advance.
  21. You could use the overflows for the fx5 inlet and outlet with the right adapters.
  22. They'll all be quite happy together. You might find that a single school of either the danios or the neons looks better than a mixture of the 2 but you can decide that after you've got them. Either way it's a good mix for a peaceful community tank.
