  1. Oh no! she still expects me to do all the work! haha
  2. :tears: :tears: It wouldnt be right to start the tank now. Because we are moving soon.
  3. dont get me wrong. i like goldfish but to put them in my future marine tank, that's just darn right outrageous! and yes i have seen his tank and its amazing! lol :nfs:
  4. I found that the sources of the goldfish make a big difference. we have goldfish and i have found that the fish i bought from a smaller LFS that buy them from a supplier up north have all died on us. but the fish we got from redwood aquatics are fine(and heaps cheaper too)! they breed all their own goldfish as far as i know all we do is put water conditioner in the tank and nothing else
  5. Yes i know. she has no idea! lol i have pictures of the tank stand etc i will post when i have completed it. the stand we got for free from someone whos tank smashed in the earthquake but we are getting a new tank to fit it. its rather quite big too. but we cant do anything until we move to our new permanent home in October.
  6. Jess(my partner) is turning my vacant tank to goldfish! i mean GOLDFISH!!!! Not clownfish, not some damsels, but GOLDFISH! lol
  7. We have had a massive disaster happen with the tank!!!
  8. Well that clears everything up. so it doesn't matter if there is too much salt in there cos you can always add more fresh water?? i have got our skimmer from fish-street.com and found them helpful and reliable. just need to change the plug on things.
  9. O sorry i should clarify what i mean. I know the capacity of the tank. i just need to know a way to measure the water to put in the tank without using a measuring jug and doing one litre at a time lol
  10. Hi all. i havent been on here for a while. we finally have a new house to move into at the end of october so now i can plan the setup for my marine tank. i was just wondering how i could measure water accurately for the salt to be mixed in. whats going to happen if i put too much or too little salt in it? does anyone know of any marine keepers in Kaiapoi? :digH: :nfs: :sml1: :smot: :slfg: :spop: :gigl: :roey: :sml2: :smln:  :yaw1: :yaw2: :an!gry &c:ry :dead%fish !drool: :dunno:  :happy1:
  11. first pengins now Gropers..... what next? the lochness monster?
  12. OOOOOooooohhhhhhhkkkk righto now im not so confuzaled :bounce:
  13. one person tells me you shouldn't use a canister for a marine and another says you can. so which is it? sorry don't mean to sound rude just confused!
  14. O have offically decided until either the earthquakes stop or we move away I wont be setting up any new fishtanks. and that could be a while away, unless we decide to move. things are getting rather stressful now. it was ok at the beginning but now its time to start a fresh. its mainly all the drama that is stressing us all out now. :digH:
  15. i work in kaiapoi. we were going to stay open but the 6.0 just tipped everyone over the edge so we closed up. computers went flying but no1 was hurt!
  16. Pros: Organisim and redwood aquatics are here  the best places to live would be west side of town. Bishopdale, Merivale, Harewood, Russley etc not as much damage over there. even out at kaiapoi would be good places to live. the earthquakes are few and very far between now. you feel the odd shake but they are getting less and less. sure there are some big ones but you get use to them!
  17. we are ok. we don't normally feel them out here unless they are big and we definitely felt that one! our goldfish tank(the only tank we have running at the mo) lost abit of water but everything now ok :happy2: thanks!
  18. is there a general rule for the size of sump to the size of the main tank?
  19. does there need to be some decent flow in the sump, like a wave maker or something?
  20. and that answers all my questions i had about a refugium. thanks! I could use ceramic noodles and bio balls couldnt i aswell? i understand that the bioballs are best for water to be "trickling" or being "poured" over, correct?
  21. thanks! but one question i have always asked myself but didnt want to ask others because i thought it was a stupid question is what is the "refugium" and what goes inside it?
  22. I am looking for a basic sump design i can use for our new 180L tank (paid for but yet to be built) i cant really see anything i can work from on the internet. maybe someone might have some ideas. i thought about having a built in sump at the back of the tank so there is no ugly pipes etc ideas?
  23. i cant actually find much information on it. do you know where i can find some more info? i also found this tank: http://animal.discovery.com/videos/most-outrageous-largest-home-aquarium.html
  24. that would be awesome. yes i have found that alot of these massive aquirums that i have seen are basically just massive block buildings with glass fronts and no creativity but i thought it was amazing having something that size in your basement.
