  1. Control yourself!! Slow and steady does it when adding fishes to a new tank. Leave it at least 2 weeks before adding more and do water tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
  2. Cucumber is fine. Courgettes are also ok as is zuchini.
  3. Depends on when you go. I have been overwhelmed by choice at some times and disappointed by lack of choice at others. I have some red rotala if you are interested (Rotala wallichii) but I don't know if it meets your standards
  4. Peas are often used to help with constipation. I doubt it would have made him ill. Just coincidence.

    flowerhorns

As far as I know they have been available for some time - at ridiculously high prices. I personally think they are very ugly fish but lots of people like them. They have become a major problem in Asia as people get sick of them, but can't kill them cos that would be bad luck, so they dump them in the waterways. They are killing native fish and destroying plantlife.
  6. I'll send that plant as soon as possible!

    Why

I thought we couldn't get weather loaches here?
  8. We get ours from Mastertrade and, from memory, they were about $5 - 7.
  9. For one BN a single half a cm slice of cucumber or courgette will do. If it isn't eaten after a couple of days then remove it. They like the inside best and eat from the inside out until just the skin is left. You could weight it down with lead or a rock too, otherwise it floats all over the place.
  10. Is it for him to stand on phillz?
  11. We use bright white or daylight tubes.
  12. May be either dust from the noodles or an algae bloom. Both will clear, give it a week.
  13. I have emailed a pdf to Cees and mystic. I agree with Warren, people always leave it until the last minute.

    Hi yall

Welcome to NZ. I prefer glass myself. Acrylic scratches so easily. I suspect the reason your other fish died was because you had too many (and possibly too soon) in the tank. It is important to cycle the tank.
  15. I hope you got our club's registrations too!
  16. BNs here are usually named Ancistrus lineolatus Colour doesn't change particularly with age but they do change pattern for no apparent reason sometimes, usually due to mood or camouflage.
  17. You want them in the gravel? I have DIY plans for an under tank heat pad, not the 'in the gravel' coils. You need to be an electrician though.
  18. Congratulations Stu! As far as I can see these have not been registered in the scheme but Rob may correct me on that.
  19. Depends on what sort of fancy goldfish, and the position of the pond. My ponds freeze over in winter in Blenheim so I am sure they do so more in ChCh.
  20. Googled 'ulcers' and now I don't think that is what the fish has. Ulcers appear to be red in the middle and white around the edges, not white in the middle like you said. It would be good if you could get a pic.

    gravel

The depth is important if you have plants. Too little and the plants don't grow well and the fish pull them up. If you have an ugf, then 10cm minimum.

    hi guys

Welcome mythrax. We have a very active marine section. Just be warned, they are all very opinionated in there!
  23. No it isn't whitespot. Perhaps an ulcer?
  24. Mine get Nutrafin bottom feeder pellets, shelled cooked peas and cucumber.
