Yeah we could! Only the plecs, convicts and JDs are left though.

When the topic turns so bad we're talking about my womb and a good job you know it's time to move on. :happy2:

Simple questions not answered. Off topic. Dumb.

That is the plan Mr 44.

I bought half a dozen of the most massive girls i've ever seen, and a couple of males, from two different places. Had them in their own tank. I also had some of the fancy ones from HFF in a tank with swords, platys and whatnot. I mixed a few around (stupid!). My big females dropped fry, I moved them to another tank. All of them died overnight. I got more fry the next day which I moved to a breeding net in the same tank because I thought maybe i'd done something and killed them, they died overnight. Then I lost a male suddenly, then all my big girls. My HFF fish died off eventually too. They looked almost like they had finrot which I treated for. And I know it sounds gross but if I went back to check on them and one had died they had fungus all over straight away. Still no idea what it was but it was only guppies, and after reading on the forum and searching online it seems no one knows anything much anyway. Put me off keeping guppies which sucks because they're my favourite. So you can see why I was on a mission to soak everything! I know Pakuranga isn't exactly close to you but if you need a spare tank to try and treat them let me know.

Thanks Adrienne. Fingers crossed the next week goes well. I'm excited but at the end of the day no jobs = no move. A nice chilled out lifestyle, a decent job, I think i'll love it. I don't think I could do totally rural like moving home (near Ohakune) but Taupo might fill my dreams of having a big yard, getting a friend for my dog, having birds and a pond and eventually having heaps of kids (maybe puppies instead Allister? ) My biggest concern will be moving fish, mostly my 6 week old fighter fry! And it'll be a mess when we finally have all our tanks combined. There's so many! Main reason fish geeks should never date! Hahaha.

All I do if it's nets and things is boil the jug a few times, throw the water and a handful of salt in a bucket, soak overnight and then rinse everything out well. Worked for me after the dreaded guppy disease attacked my tanks, i was obsessed with soaking everything, ornaments, nets, sponge filters because I was so paranoid. :nilly:

You can come and live with us anytime Josh. We'll have the best fishroom in Taupo. :happy2: :happy1: Lots of negativity in this thread haha, worst case scenario we'll move back, but i'm sure it will all work out.

Mostly hospo stuff. Fortunately we know an awful lot of people there!
-
Not sure yet. This whole week is going to be used to find jobs and houses and sort things. Probably somewhere central though. It's not a terribly big place to get around though thankfully!

Hey, this is super random, but my partner (allister_b on here) and I are looking at moving to Taupo hopefully very soon and were wondering if there's many fishy people there. It might be nice to find like minded people after flicking through the FNZAS yearbook and seeing there's no Taupo people registered. Very concerning! :tears: Apart from making the trip to Wonderworld i'm wondering if there is a way to keep my fish obsession going really. Any breeders worth knowing about? Any fish geeks?

New old (maybe) planted tank - What to put in it?
Stephanie replied to Stephanie's topic in Freshwater
They are really cute, but a really plain colour. New Zealand is the enemy. Tiny little bottom feeding fish, and tiny fish in general are so limited. I want colour. :dunno: -
Any handy tips on speeding up fry growth rate?

Thanks! He doesn't look quite as impressive as your avatar. Jealous! But i'm going to try breed him and my other boys in the new year. We've got heaps of little breeding tanks setup but boyfriend and I are off to Gisborne for a week of work which is already driving me mental because we can't put any pairs together until about the 3rd which is so far away!! The next 11 days better go fast. I need to fuel my fighter problem with new spawns NOW! -

New old (maybe) planted tank - What to put in it?
Stephanie replied to Stephanie's topic in Freshwater
Ah sparkling gouramis is what I meant, not dwarf. Obviously I was half asleep when I was typing. Them, mosquito rasbora and something for the bottom of the tank is looking like the way to go. :happy2: -
New old (maybe) planted tank - What to put in it?
Stephanie replied to Stephanie's topic in Freshwater
I haven't actually sorted a filter for the tank yet. That's the one thing that's bugging me. Jebos obviously come with their filter, which mysteriously stopped working and I haven't replaced because I had guppy fry and threw a sponge in. As easy as it would be to go and get a replacement, they have pretty intense suction for a little unit and since I haven't worked out what fish I want I don't know what filter I want to use. Apparently not a trickle filter though! Embers are really nice, i've looked at them too, there's just something about the red colouring rasboras I like. And they're just so teeny tiny! -
New old (maybe) planted tank - What to put in it?
Stephanie replied to Stephanie's topic in Freshwater
Thank you. Will PM you. Fingers crossed my tank works out. For some reason everything has always grown like crazy in it just with plain old water and light, maybe Jebo isn't too bad after all. It was my first ever fish tank so I can't ever bring myself to part with it. Gotta make it pretty. -
Any handy tips on speeding up fry growth rate?

Breeding them is evil. Mine are 4 weeks on Friday and if you look at: http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/bettagrowth.html, which I keep doing, some of mine look like the 4 week picture and some are still at the 3 week size. Which is annoying because it's such a tiny spawn. -
So after experiencing that awesome guppy disease everyone has and leaving my tank empty for ages to focus on breeding fighters and such, i've decided i've almost finished my grieving and tantrums and set it up again. I despise planted tanks (looks like effort), but I would like one, so i've put in a piece of driftwood, a sword and some unidentified grassy type plant, and i'm using CO2 finally. I bought the nutrafin unit ages ago, and I thought i'd give it a go. $80 for a piece of plastic and a jar it would be rude not to. I made the mixture and it's working well. Now i'm trying to think of what I can put in the tank in the new year. I want my plants to grow nicely first so i'm being good and resisting the urge to actually purchase anything without thinking first. The tank is a Jebo R338, about 38 litres. I've been thinking alot about mosquito rasbora, although we went hunting today to check them out again, we found 3, so i'd have to wait until more are available. Dwarf gouramis are another thing I look at every time i'm at HFF, but i've seen things on here about them not being terribly hardy. Pygmy cories were suggested today, which I like, but I would like more color maybe. Galaxy rasbora seemed like a good idea but they mostly seem to look all hunched over which I don't love. Silvertip Tetras are pretty cute too, but they may be too big to have a decent group. I don't want to fill the tank with fish, just have one or two small hardy types, something that breeds fairly easily with no effort from me would be nice too. Basically just a nice display tank. Any ideas are much appreciated.

Super jealous. We used to have a little black female. Maybe we need to hunt around.

It's hard to tell. We had Josh over the other night looking at them haha. It's hard to explain but there is a split in it which looks quite perfect, not torn, but then the top of his fin is pretty munted at the moment, when it grows back we shall find out. He's a cute fish anyway.

Just because we're always looking for new girls (and sometimes new boys) and we went through the trouble of attempting to photograph our fish yesterday (not an easy task it seems), I thought I'd post them here so we can possibly find other people who breed them and such. Our crowntails: Delta: Our first shortail: Halfmoon: Two we picked up a few days ago: First guy has a damaged tail at the moment but he looks like he's a doubletail. and there's a few more either with fry or out of action. A plakat, young pink crowntail, purple/pink crowntail, blue halfmoon and our mustard gas. I'm quite pleased with our little collection, but there's always room for more. :happy2:

Hahah I was going to mention that.
