is there absolutely nowhere else in the house the tank can go to get out of the natural light of the current space? Or even just to a different wall in the same room where you might be able to block off a pane of glass? My rasbora tank that had the same brown slime is a picture of perfection since I blocked the sunny pane - it's all gone and everything is green.

at SPCA they have a long room with cages on either side where it's mostly one cat per cage. I found that room rather upsetting, though most of the cages were empty. My cat was in another area where there were mini bedrooms set up with human beds and bunk beds, cat scratch posts, litterboxes and hidey boxes and there were up to 4 cats living in each one. There was a cat bed and litter box for each cat. One side of the bedroom was all window so you could see the kitties sleeping and mooching about, and there were notices on the window saying who was who. You tell the Cat Housekeepers which one you want to meet and then you have to sit in a waiting room ...the cat is brought in and the Cat Housekeeper lady reads out their notes and tells you about the cat. Then you get left alone for a few minutes to see if you like each other.

I had a long night. Mr Cat (not his name) didn't like being locked in his security room alone so at 1130 he started scratching at the door and making a deep loud hauuuuuu. I was worried that he would wake the neighbour sleeping in the room next door so I took a quilt and went in to sleep on the floor with him. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep between an emotional cat snuggling and pounding me with his sharp claws, and my bones jabbing into the floor but at least it shut him up for the night. I drifted off at some point when the cat stopped purring. Today he is wandering about the house exploring.

So here is my new cat. No name yet. Approx 4 years old, very shiny healthy coat, very smoochy. As soon as he stepped out of the box he began rubbing around on things and I found he has a tail like an iron rod, and his chin boop is extremely strong. He is a huge cat, 5-6kg or more. Hard to get a good photo of his face as he follows me around the room booping and nuzzling. I'll be getting a grown or nearly grown cat. I live in Three Kings so I won't going to Papatoetoe for vet care... thanks for the comments though
