did you have any luck with this in the end? I had cloudy water and it improved very quickly with a power head type filter instead of the hang on the back one I had.

the suction cups on the Eheim I just sold 'someone' were very good, I would get another of those if needing another powerful filter

marine paints will work under water - expensive likely, and will need time to go off so they stop leaching solvent

hi SbD what filter/pump etc did you end up with?

In the killie tank he has a stream pump. I presumed that was a small filter of some sort. I don't know what it is otherwise I didn't see any reference to filter or pump in the crocodilius thread. Do you have a killie only tank or did you put yours in a community?

i've been using a 300W heater in a 50L tank and it was fine. An electrician told me that it's better for the unit to have a small area to heat as it reaches it cycle quickly, whatever that means. I guess it means it doesn't have to work as hard. Same heater couldn't cope in a tank it was designed to heat but did a good job in mine. No overheating or other issues.

Hi Am going to start setting up a small tank (50cm long max) for killies and wondering if anyone has any tips on good sponge/box filters I can look into? I understand that power head type filters where the water gets sucked in the bottom and then flies out the top to make a current are not ideal as I will be having small fish and want to create a more pond-like scenario for them. If it has to be one that attaches to an airpump then can you also recommend one of those that is quiet! thanks in advance

Just been to HFF Mt Roskill and they have a large collection of otos, quite visibly there are 2 kinds. One lot look like 'ours' and the others are almost black and white in colouring and really quite different. There is a huge one in there too. They are all labelled as 'otocinclus' on the tank and I didn't ask if they knew which were which.

hi Deepsound, yes please some pictures would be great. I like the way your fish go to summer camp to chomp on live food!

i had a guppy that was really huge one day I found her popping them out and the males still kept annoying her so I spent the afternoon fending off the males with the nets while she rested on top of the filter popping out sprogs. She was so concerned with giving birth that she didn't care about the nets in the tank!

how does it work with having no filter? Is it essentially a heated tank-pond? Do you have an air stone or such like for oxygen? Excuse the silly questions but I am really interested and I like how your tank looks
