    true or false?

I went to 'a store' today and was looking at gravel. Assistant asked what sort of fish I was having. I replied that I was getting killifish. Assistant says that it's best to get fine gravel for killies because they like to dig about in it. and I thought 'what the bleeeeeep?' is this true or did he mistake a killie for a cory ?!
  4. thank you very much by that time I should have some pix to share of the tank that I'm starting up - my husband is underway making the cabinet and then I can start putting it together
  5. a ladybird is a good idea - I will have to dial 0800 rent-a-bug!! since the experiment finished the bugs that were left have not multiplied in any great fashion either, they are there but not taking over like before. I haven't felt the need to resort to flooding them out as I was going to
  6. I don't know if it's legal but it sure looks uncomfortable that way
  7. thanks is that christmas or java moss?
  8. cool, thanks I get the idea - same kind as I had
  9. Feel like posting some more pics for us? You know we love them :bounce: well really I mean for me... but I don't mind sharing with the others
  10. can you post a pic of the otos? reason I'm asking is that I had some of the normal kind but HFF had some that had different markings and I wonder which you've got
  11. i bought some azolla and promptly killed it within a few days I think it came from an outside pond so either it didn't like my low tech 'tropical' bucket with light nearby or... like you say it ruined the water with it's roots and general crap as there was quite a lot of it. Shame it died as it looked nice, but if I see any more I will try just a little bit as you say. Anyway off to get more duckweed this weekend in the meantime. :bounce:
  12. me too ... off spending tomorrow
  13. just because he is selling them all together doesn't mean they came from the same tank(s) maybe he is trying to do a sneaky on TM fees by listing it all together
  14. ok thanks very much I will give it a try 8)
  15. if you click the link it says "Sorry, this product is no longer available online" and no pics. I'll look up the bulb you mention so 6500k means cool daylight tones and it needs to be 100watt??
  16. Hi Sam what was the bulb that you suggested for this table top light? thanks, Sophia

    Golden Rams!

I saw some at Botany Animates - pretty little fish
  18. Greg is making me one at the moment for half the price of one quoted at TT.
  19. 1 square millimetre are the gaps between the mesh probably not too small for a java moss anyway ...
  20. a few days on and the worms are still chomping through their luncheon but there seem to be less bugs than at the end of the experiment. maybe they went away to die later!
  21. I have been looking at them too but they are quite huge compared to a normal internal filter.
  22. how big does it have to be? I might have what you need I have a piece of mesh for tapestry that is 35cm long x 27cm wide and the gaps are about 1 square mm. Otherwise you can probably buy bigger at a haberdashery store or somewhere like Spotlight.
  23. oooh that sounds mean but effective!! I left the mothball one more night, this morning they were still moving like little bug slugs. Have taken the mothball out now. Experiment is over! Barrie, I can recommend using the ball when the lid is off to get the bugs moving and up the sides of the container so you can wipe them out with a cloth. I also suspect that using mothballs in the box might prevent the bugs coming in the first place. Since I don't have anywhere to keep the worms warm but not fill my house with vapours I probably won't get to test this theory at least till summer. If anyone else has any experience with using mothballs, I'd like to hear about it. thanks
