  1. are white worms, grindal worms and microworms the same thing?
  2. cool, thanks guys. I will get researchin'!
  3. the easiest thing to do is buy some Aquasafe or another product that makes the water safe for the scaled ones and then no waiting apart from that I am not 100% sure how long it takes the chlorine gas to dissipate once it's out of the tap
  4. will they try to take over the tank? how much should you feed?
  5. Where's the best place to start? I have 7 cardinal tetra and 7 peppered cory (+ 2 oto) and would like to spice up their diet. I would prefer something low maintenance and not smelly while 'it' grows if there is such a thing? 8) thanks in advance again !
  6. when I swapped out the gravel in my tank and siliconed in the divider I didn't have another tank to put the fish in for the duration. I wanted to keep as much of the water as possible so I moved most of the water, filter, fish, heater and plants into a big chilly bin (plastic) and they lived in there for a couple of days while the silicone went off. They didn't like the white bottom of the bin, it took one of the otos a couple of days to get his full colour back but they were otherwise fine. The chilly bin was deep enough for the filter and heater to keep things as normal as possible during the transition.
  7. thought I was rid of the direct sunlight on the tank.... turns out that strip over the urn, gravel and edge of wall does still get some! Interesting what you find out about your house when you are on holiday! garrrrrggggggghhhhhhh :-?
  8. thanks for putting the Eheim pickup in there It says I'm 106% stocked but 144% filtered for my stock
  9. those fish are big enough to eat!
  10. hmmmm I will have another fiddle in the morning The finned ones need a rest from my poking and prodding!
  11. cool will wait for the photos then
  12. Was a newbie when I bought mine, have been fiddling about with it just now. It's a 2010 model and my tank is 60cm long x 30x33ish. Now I'm less of newbie I wonder if it's too big but of course the shop assistant said I could never have too much filtration... It was on the oxygen aerating setting with the top bit fully pushed in, then I discovered if I pull that out there are no bubbles but the tank gets very swirly! What does anyone else do? I'm keeping mine on less swirly, the other way seems too fast moving.
  13. yep, photos would be nice. what fish do you have? All the fish in my tank (little fish) seem to hover over the gravel when needing a place to hide as they blend in better than the stark sand
  14. haha :bounce: why do the pleco have names like L46 etc - do they have common names as well?
  15. I have gravel and sand approx half and half, gravel on the side where the filter is and so far I have never found any sand in there at all. I have silica sand also. There's a thread in DIY from me about making the barrier if you wish to complicate your life further 8)
  16. I bought 2 otos to eat the diatom algae when my tank was newer and they ate and ate and ate, they had serious pot bellies. I really like those little guys, they have quite a bit of character too. If I put an algae wafer in one of them will lay on the top of it even when not eating so no one else can get near.
  17. that's how I got my ramshorns haha i've got both and I prefer the trumpet snails
  18. thanks for posting the movie, your choice of soundtrack made me laugh, I would have probably picked Wagner to go with those bolshy guys hahaha   some fat cories you have there too
  19. pix of the cuteness please!
  20. in my newbie experiments I've found the ramshorns in my tank can multiply very easily and soon have a representive in every cm of the tank, but they will gather on a piece of courgette in large numbers over a few days. i also have trumpet snails and find that yes they do make babies but they burrow in my sand which is a good thing to keep it aerated APPARENTLY. they also haven't multiplied much at all - maybe 3 adultish sized ones after 3 or 4 months, which started from one that came 'free' with a fish in fish bag once. also none of them like being overdosed with flourish excel - the big one is hardy enough to keep scuffling around but the other 2 may be dead or in hibernation
  21. thanks for the clarification I knew someone had said something about it previously!
  22. should I pull it out and start again after dosage returns to normal or will it resprout if I let it die off? The water is definitely cloudyish today, or maybe hazy is a better description in other news the algae I didn't scrub within an inch of it's life is dying! :bounce:
  23. i would like to see the Eheim Pickup range added to the filters. I have a 2010
