  1. I think so...can't remember for sure. She was housed at uni and used when they would make trips to school as a teaching aid. She was really friendly and didn't mind getting pat by the kids. She's a little groggy in the pic because we had to take her out to clean the cage.
  2. Wow old thread! Nice to see what people look like though Post some more! Some of the images are no longer there. This is me... Kayaking in Honduras In Guatemala with the BF At uni in Canada taking care of the reptiles
  3. When I was little, I ALWAYS wanted to do this. I used to tell my mom how we could set up aquariums in different rooms, and then run tubes in between them and up by the ceiling...I'm sure she was impressed. Hehehe
  4. The National Audubon Society has declared that “worldwide, cats may have been involved in the extinction of more bird species than any other cause, except habitat destruction.” Feral cats should be culled (sadly...). Pets should be spayed or neutered AND any outdoor cats should be forced to wear a loud bell.

    beware

Several people agree on it. The fish definitely does not look like a p82, and Barrie, and other killifish gurus know what they are talking about.

    New Fighter Tank

There will be enough water movement to keep the temp even. This is what i've done with my guppy babies and it works. Betta don't need water movement anyways. Just curious though...won't the constant views of each other and flaring wear the fish out?

Should we all swarm him with Qs???
  8. Haha, oops, I accidentally counted 6 pieces total Ok, well then make one 350x300x 270!
  9. Looks like you can make a tank that is 350x300x300. basically use the larges pieces for the front and back. The 350x300 is ready to go, but the other 350x350 would have to be trimmed back so that it is the same dimensions. Then, for the sides, the 300x300 is ready to go, but the 350x320 would also have to be trimmed back. You would be left not using the 300x270 at all (unless you want a part lid). You can by a glass scorer from a hardware store. Basically you just score the glass where you want it to be cut using the help of ruler or something else that is straight. Then you apply pressure to the piece against the corner of a table or use some glass pliers to 'bite' off pieces and the glass should split right along the line . I've done this with smaller pieces of glass and tiles but I don't know how hard it would be on a large piece or what type of glass this is. I'm sure there are vids on youtube showing this process. HOWEVER, the glass edges will be really sharp... I would recommend taking the pieces to a glass repair shop where they can cut it to the dimensions you need and also bevel the edges so you don't cut yourself!
  10. Nice little story. So is Nemo a goldfish? or a gold colour fish? Can't wait for the pics The 38ltr should be fine with the danios and kribensis. Just make sure you keep up with water changes. I'm sure people on here would be happy to take the extra fish. I know I would if I had the room!
  11. LOL...why were you trying to steal a baby? Bikbok - i think bloodworms should be ok, and maybe the watered down cat food... i would stick to the worms because catfood can have weird additives?
  12. Sometimes the parents reject/kill the baby because they already did so in the first place, even before the humans got there. Often the parent or its baby's siblings sense the youngster is weak and they will actually kick it out of the nest. Birds have a relatively poor sense of smell, rely more on visual cues. Certain parents simply get scared away by the humans...other birds will continue to attack while the human is near the chick...depends on the species really. What situation have you seen these chicks being left by their parents?
  13. You are right. Touching baby birds does not make the parents reject them. Plenty of ornithologists will vouch for that as much of their research involves close contact with nests and babies. I think this myth arose to prevent kids from bringing babies home and also prevent any contact with diseases. Bikbok: Maybe you can call the local SPCA and see if they are willing to help you out with the bird?
  14. Oh yeah, the likelyhood that it is someone younger is definitely strong...the older ones have probably moved away from killing animals and are onto people by now! All I'm saying is that its not written in stone. Maybe it was some gang initiation? Are there any gangs in Timaru?
  15. Some people call me Milly! She's lovely
  16. Thumbs up! I look forward to potentially getting some babies off you in the future
  17. You cannot be certain whether they were indeed kids, or maybe someone older. Maybe this person was acting on revenge because the owner wronged him? Who knows...there are no excuses, don't get me wrong. I do believe/agree that they are a sociopath though..and its a shame no one noticed before this happened Unfortunately, we can't rely on castration to fix the problem, as there is no proof that it is genetic. But maybe the world would be a better place, if you had to pass some kind of test before you were allowed to reproduce!
  18. Ugh... I once thought about becoming a animal cruelty officer, but cases like this would surely cause me to get fired. I just would not be able to stay professional once catching up to these types of sociopaths!
  19. Just make sure that you stick to the black wire mesh on your cage. You can see the birds better though a black wire then a white one.
  20. Powdered milk is great! But only when its stays in its powdered form...
  21. Cheers! I don't know how I pulled them off either. They are usually blurry, I think their just happened to be the light amount of light that day
