  1. My brine shrimp took around 36 hours to hatch last time so I'll need to start them before the angels are ready for food. Roughly when would they be ready for food?
  2. We have wrigglers! A few have fallen off the algae scraper but most are stuck onto it and wriggling way. Is now the time to turn off the air pump and start the brine shrimp hatchery?
  3. I did read the bottle before use, with Methylene blue as the main active ingredient I thought it would be okay. Just over 48hrs since they were laid and so far I've removed half a dozen infertile eggs, all the other eggs looking very healthy and mould free. Just done an 80% water change, added a sponge filter and a few more drops of Wunder Tonic.
  4. Awesome job! Loving the tails and colours, aquabid quality :nfs:
  5. My silver angelfish have spawned 4-5 times in the past but leaving them with the eggs has always resulted in them eating the eggs. This time I was fortunate that they laid eggs on a well placed magnetic algae scraper. I have since moved the eggs into their own 20L aquarium, added Wunder Tonic (1.5% meth blue) and put a gently bubbling air stone beneath the eggs to keep them well oxygenated. I'll be starting a brine shrimp hatch shortly and will stagger it with another hatch in 24hrs. Is there anything else I can do to give these eggs the best chance possible? Thanks!
  6. I've only ever had this issue with Aquaone suction cups but always found it to be harmless to aquatic life. I just scrape it off during a water change and have had no losses attributed to them.
  7. Neither, the album is private and the image URL needs to end in .jpg
  8. I've had experience with tanks in sunny rooms numerous times, always with the same results, algae central. Both high tech and low tech tanks fall victim to algae when exposed to sunlight for more than a few minutes a day. I currently have a tank that's too long for the wall so 5cm of the end sticks out past the window, the glass in this area alone is covered in algae whereas the rest of the tank is fine. Aquariums are best suited to dark corners, that's where they look the best anyway!
  9. :iag: After all this effort with lighting and scaping, the last thing you want is algae soup.
  10. It would be time to go pressurised. Do a 50% water change twice a week in the early stages if you've got good water. Not digging the rounded stones in the tank, have you thought about trying some angular ones?
  11. This just so happens to be my favourite aquarium size of all time, the space constraints make for a great challenge. Personally, I'd run it as a densely planted low-tech aquarium with 30-40 small schooling fish such as rasboras or tetras.

Merry Xmas to me! Today is a big clean out day, photographing and listing most of the equipment shown here.
  13. It's a different game when you're running pressurised, ain't nothing like it. Will be following keenly though.
  14. What are your plans for CO2 in the future? Are you getting a pressurised rig?

Need to get my A into G over the break and drain, clean and sell some tanks. Downsizing from around 16 tanks to just two, consolidating my collection into one 4ft aquarium and one high tech 60x30x30 planted aquarium. Anyone in Auckland looking for cheap glass tanks?

    Fixing a slow leak

You guys are right, it's not worth putting lives at risk, the tank is right next to my bed after all. I drained the tank as much as possible before work, only a few inches of water remains and waterproof epoxy seems to be holding for now. I'll fully drain it when I get the chance and look at getting it repaired or replaced after having a word to the seller.
  17. I finally got around to filling up my 6ft 540L aquarium yesterday and this morning I noticed a slow leak in between the bottom panel and right side panel. It looks to be about the size of a pinhole leaking at a rate of 1 drop every 3 seconds. The tank had a few cm of water in it for a good month without any signs of it leaking but now that I've planted it and filled it right up, this leak has appeared. I'm really not prepared to drain, seal and refill the tank, are there any quick fixes that will stop this leak? Thanks!

    The What's Up? thread.

Nope! I love my planted communities far too much. Plus I'm consolidating many of my smaller aquariums into this one, will probably end up having only 2 aquariums running.

Yeah the 540L, decided against it.

Fairly set on this as the final hardscape, will plant heavily with stems, runners, java fern and moss under 4 x 3ft 30w tubes. Tank is 1800x600x500 (LxWxH mm) and will be running pressurised CO2 of course. Stocking will be general community fish, angels, gba, tetras, etc.
  21. Blue green algae, it smells like old socks. It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like there's some against the front glass under the sand. Yes you're right, the early brown algae phase is something I've had to deal with time and time again, keep up the water changes. 8.5 is a lot for a new tank, I usually start on 6 and go from there.
  22. Are you at all concerned about the brown algae and possible cyano? Looks like a bit too much lighting and too few waterchanges.
  23. Really? 60 looked small in my 50L, everyone was surprised when I told them there were 60 fish in the tank, most guessed around 30.
