Platys being livebearers are hardier than most young fish. By one month you can treat them as you do adult Platys.

Your tank appears to be running well and healthy at the moment, I wouldn't go tinkering with it too much.

You're disturbing the surface quite a bit with that airstone there, that'll lead to a huge loss in CO2. Also, the plants in that tank do fine with or without CO2, you'd be after a pressurised setup if you had fast growing stems or carpeting plants. Nice, clean tank looks very sharp 8)

That's what my ceramic and glass diffuser jammed in the filter outlet looked like, small bubbles but no mist. You know a mist when you see it, if that tank was properly misting, not bubbling then those fish would be dead within an hour. I'd know, I've gassed many a fish in my time :fshi: Just out of curiosity Finznfangs, what are the specs of your tank? Any photos I may have missed?

I'm not sure, I don't run DIY anymore as I never had any significant results from it. There's nothing wrong with mashing the bubbles into a bit of sponge or filter wool using a pump or filter, the finer you can get that CO2 the better as DIY is especially unreliable. Pressurised is the way to go :thup:

Have you considered an inline CO2 diffuser? I used to use glass and ceramic but get far better diffusion, distribution and economy from an inline atomiser.

Perhaps a NZ fish rescue group could be set up if one doesn't already exist? Members from around the country could volunteer to collect and keep or ship fish from unsuitable homes. Something needs to be done, why not start here?

Killing deadspots in a tank this size is really difficult. Linear flow from left to right has worked well for me. -

On the brightside, you could replace your Betta with a Plakat or a few small shoaling fish allowing you to add a small pump/wavemaker. -

Week two now and I'm quite happy with the overall health of the carpet. And yes, brown algae has taken off too :oops: I'll just have to keep cleaning and wait for it to pass :roll:

If your current fish seem happy and healthy then yes, I don't see why not.

Happy fish breed faster and better than unhappy fish. Breeding them in a 10L is unrealistic, look at Sophias suggestion as a bare minimum for breeding.

Sophia's onto it. Remember as with all fish, the bigger you can go the better. I believe that a 90x30x30cm aquarium is a great size for minnows, you could have 40-50 in a tank like this provided you have sufficient filtration.

Unless the pump makes the tank larger then no. I'd be looking at a 30L tank as a bare minimum for minnows, the longer the better.
