I'd definitely keep the hairgrass too. It looks like the polysperma and macandra have funny looking leaves, maybe there is a light or nutrition deficiency? If you're keeping the hairgrass, I'd plant with one type of plant heavily in the background, probably as Rotala rotundifolia. A two plant combo looks really nice. Stock with a Betta or something. This one is one I remembered from a joke book a while ago. There's a prisoner on death row who is moments away from being executed. But the warden says that one chair is wired and the other is not, if he chooses the right chair, he will be set free. Those are native, therefore coldwater. They're rather dull compared to CRS and RCS but the closest thing we can get to tropical shrimp. When they no longer need nylon to hold them on I'd give it about a month, maybe less. You should see roots creeping down the sides of the driftwood and attaching to it. HTH

For new people, I'd recommend buying an all-in-one. In saying that, my first tank was a 3ft plain glass tank and I purchased all the equipment separately. Which size are we talking here? 620T size? It's an unusual size for a plain glass tank so I'd rather have a 60 wide x 45 deep x 45 high or similar, 100w Jager, Ehiem 2213, 2x 6500k CFLs, etc. Of course it'd be heavily planted and all, you might not want to do that. Good to get other peoples opinions too. HTH
