  1. lovely intense colour on them is it called green officially?
  2. Love the little spiky ball grassy things, they look like some of our native grasses. Very cool
  3. i was just wondering what they are too beautifully sparkly little guys
  4. they're the same as any other guppies, need a temp at least 18. So if you have a warm house that doesn't get colder than that then you wouldn't need a heater, but they're not cold water. They tend to be more the wild type guppies since they're abit hardier than show gups
  5. it is small, the one error i made in the design was that i measured out the shelf heights without taking into account the width of the cross beams taking up a fair bit of height. But having used it for a few days now i can say its enough space to do everything easily, a few cm less and it would be a mission but there's just enough space to get your arm into the tanks on the middle shelf, more space on the others, and the daily water changes, feeding are easy without having to stick your arm in anyway. Have got 3 of the middle tanks in and filled, sitting on constant 20deg, bottom tanks are 26 with the heaters so i'm fairly pleased with the heat keeping. Just chucked a spare tank on the top, will fill that today and see what temp it sits on up there. Will grab some more photos later
  6. and endlers come from venezuelia too, so there's probably a mix in there. If endlers are a species that is.
  7. lol why yesh you are fancy bumping into you here i could do a good job as the creepy landlord from hell if i was trying
  8. i've got 3 endler/guppy hybrid boys, sadly none have lyretails but they do have the strong black and orange markings with gold foiling. I haven't got the space at the moment to do a decent job breeding them back to more of an endler look, but in the meantime i'm removing all the drops and putting back a couple of virgin girls to try and keep them going. I'd love a lyretail one to add to the mix
  9. how long is the drive? i've driven 5-6 hours with cats or kittens many times, and they cope fine, happiest if you have space for a collapsible dog crate or similar so you can fit a litter box, water bowl in, or if you don't have space plenty of shredded paper in their cages so if it gets dirty you can stop and bin it and replace asap. Don't want to be drugging them unless necessary, and that sedapet is good stuff.
  10. lol just thought it would be funny if its who i'm thinking of, i'll feel like a stalker lol
  11. jasmine you don't happen to live in western springs do you?
  12. i've got a question too i've got piles of old broken terracotta pipes that i dug out of the garden, which have a glaze sort of thing on one side, will they be safe to put in the tank? They've been buried 20-odd years, scrap fill from the old brickworks. With the dirt rinsed off can i put them in without it affecting anything?
  13. i gave a trio to our lfs to try and encourage them to stock them, they looked at me sideways in disbelief when i told them what they were and sold them as guppies lol. They were about 8cm f.scheelis, obviously not guppies but someone picked all three out of the guppy tank the next day so either they knew what they were or just loved them.
  14. will it be siliconed in place? I'd love to make one but can just imagine it pinging off and floating away...
  15. are there any other lfs that sell killies though? I was amazed to see them at bird barn, never seen them anywhere else. but then i don't get to visit many fish shops. would be nice to see them around more often, i never would have got into them if i hadn't stumbled across them online, and they're my favourite fishies now.
  16. i would suggest l.a and dixon were trying to lighten the mood of the thread, and don't need to be snarked at for it. this thread is exactly the sort of silly misunderstanding and accompianing nastiness that puts me off other forums, lets play nicely
  17. and i love your new avatar barrie :bounce:
  18. perhaps it would be fairer to say, not alot of small fishes live more than 3 years. If you were looking at small community fishies most of the tetras, livebearers, barbs, danios etc only have short lifespans too, non-annual killies seem to be the same as other fish their size.
  19. the 6 upright poles are 2x4, the cross beams are 2x3. I had planned to use 2x4 crossbeams and 4x4 uprights, but the wood guy was certain that smaller would be easily strong enough, so i went with his recommendation, hope its strong enough when the tanks are full. Each shelf will only have to hold about 120kgs so should be fine, plus it has the hardboard back and sides to help support it. I went with a big stand for just a few tanks so i could fit more insulation and a bit of storage space in, i've still got plenty more space in my room for more tanks. Just been putting the rest of the tanks in and filling them slowly, using water just under the temp i want, will turn the two heaters on then see how warm the top tanks are by tomorrow morning before i consider putting anything in them.
  20. lol go for it, its wonderful stuff when i eventually recarpet the place i'll be putting it over the old stuff, can't give up that extra thick warm wool when i haven't got enough space for underfloor insulation. -6 here this morning, its only the start of winter :-? our spare room has a few mm's solid ice on the inside of the windows, frozen condensation
  21. perhaps they'll go home and google them to find out more, when i first saw killies it was on tm and they were so cool looking i had to scour the net for info to see if we could have them.
  22. wow, we could start a crazy carpet club :bounce: now who can beat my kitchen carpet - its the one part of the house with a different pattern, and it goes right up to the bench, ick.
  23. maybe they need a little sign, to go next to the pic cards for each species, saying how big they grow, what they can be kept with, and how long they live?
  24. Front, with an ugly catch holding it shut overnight Inside, with a couple of empty tanks in Bottom door and storage, no lining on inside of door yet, and will put a shelf across the bottom to sit stuff on.
