  1. might be a bit mean for the male  when they first see each other both of them will probably look stunning and show off all day, but once a few days have past and they haven't managed to get closer they'll probably just ignore each other and go back to normal.
  2. there were some on trademe? I must have missed them I've been after some more for ages, went to get a couple of pairs from the place i got my one, but all they had left were manky looking ones, skinny and pale and sick looking. At $50/pair i'm not buying fish that float with the current
  3. i used to have the end of one of our tanks seperated off like that for the female guppies, its much nicer than sticking them in a breeder thing. Looks like an interesting and busy tank Once the loach gets big and you want to get more fish you'll just have an excuse to get a bigger tank and double the schooling fish
  4. i appreciate your tank conversion log, i've spent the last few days drooling over it and trying to convince myself its time for a cichlid tanki
  5. you could put a couple of celestial pearl danios in there, they're only 1-1 1/2cm I wanted to put some in my tiny tank but haven't been able to find healthy ones for sale
  6. animal antics do you guys sell and post plants? I can see some sales coming your way if you do
  7. i get their emails every week...on my old account. They have 'fish club' special each week, always a fish and something else aquarium related on sale.
  8. if its judged by those 3 people suggested, could we have a vote for peoples choice too?
  9. make it a gmail account, not hotmail, that way it automatically sorts emails from the same person into a pile so its easy to see all the emails from each entry.
  10. oh and 1 entry per person also will it be strictly planted tanks, or can people do just rocks etc if wanted? Or fill it with those tacky fluro ornaments? Lol
  11. i'd be happy to only have one light, i can't really afford to replace both anyway. Thats assuming it will work with one, or do you have to have both in? Its only got one switch. So the rough idea so far is.. tank must be a <40L all-in-one with everything as it is out of the box. Built in lighting/filtration used. Built in lighting must be one tube / 11w limit Voting will be on final pic of each tank, but a few earlier photos will be submitted to be viewable after voting closes to show how it has progressed, and that the plants are actually living there. To start from 1st september, and run for 2/3 months? Will diy co2 be allowed? What about sunlight - putting the tank in the window would add alot of light to it?
  12. thanks i even looked on that site but couldn't find them
  13. i have one here that came minus the light tubes, and want to replace them, but the two stores i rang didn't know what size they should be. Has anyone got one and can have a look for me? Need to know exactly what to get so i can't have them sent to me.
  14. my jebo r338 has two lights, don't know what wattage but i think its two small ones. So would they count or should i only buy one bulb? lol
  15. its alot harder to get rid of than it first appears. I've been trying to get it out of my daughters tank for weeks. The problem is that once you've taken out every single little piece, the next day there'll still be more magically appearing from somewhere. I spent a week picking it up every day, then i got busy with other things for a few days and left it, and now it covers the top again. It doubles itself every 12 hours i think under good lights. I suspect the bits that magically appear when i think i've got it all are bits that have sunk and stuck into the other plants when i'm scooping it out. I'll just have to spend a few weeks doing it every day. But i do keep it in our breeding tanks, the babies love it.
  16. two of my boys did that, until they were seperated. They only payed attention to each other instead of the girls.
  17. i use nz couriers, tell them they're tropical plants to avoid any problems when they ask lol. Costs 15.50 out of region, which is from taumarunui southwards - new plymouth, wellington etc, or 12.50 in region - north to just past auckland. South island is more. Thats just buying the occasional ticket, its cheaper if you buy lots.
  18. ok, fair enough can we enter more than one tank?
  19. have to have at least one earlier shot though, otherwise whats to stop someone spending loads of $$ on plants and setting one up for a day, crammed full of beautiful healthy plants, then winning the comp over everyone else who has struggled and worked to get everything growing and looking nice?
  20. We could do it as a poll like the photo of the month, even if we all voted for ourselves there'd be another 50 votes at least so it should work. What if we have a set number of photos per entry, like say one of the empty tank, one of it just set up at the start, then one at the end of each 2 weeks until the close. So that would be 10 pics? Sounds like alot but it would be good to see what everyone started with, how it progressed, and the final product after 2 months or what have you. Some might need a couple of different angles for the final pics though.
  21. could you offer to help out the people running the clinic for a discount? They might appreciate an extra pair of hands for picking up poo or something? Plus then you'd get a sort of behind the scenes look at it.
  22. keep some more young girls, so you have 20 or so for 10 males, and they'll drop at least 400 fry a month. Should be plenty left after they've eaten some If you want to increase their survival in the time between being born and moved to the other tank, fill it with lots of plants. I have a strip across the back and the two back corners packes with plants that have leaves from bottom to top, then i have duckweed floating, its horrible stuff to get rid of but it covers the surface and the roots hanging down mean the fry can swim all through without being eaten. Can leave the fry in for a few days and still catch 30 or so from each batch, even though there's rainbowfish and siamese fighters etc in there too. Also they nearly always have babies in the morning, a couple of hours after the lights come on, so if you think ones about to have babies check about lunchtime and they should all be there swimming in a group in the corner.
  23. put the babies in the new one, to grow out. More space = faster growth & healthier guppies 100 fry a month from 30 adults? How many girls? You should get that many babies off 2 or 3 girls. Are you netting the fry out after they're born?
  24. so prizes for christmas sounds good now who has plants for sale? hehe
  25. 3 months? Don't want it to be too long though.
