  1. wow if i had a frozen display case i'd want it that is seriously cool
  2. looked just like this one and about 4cm long don't worry sam, different tank
  3. thats exactly what it is, just been googling pics of dobsonfly lavae now i can stop being disturbed by it :bounce: i know where it would have come from, the piece of wood in the tank was fished out of the bottom of the river, to big to boil so i just scrubbed it well and chucked it in. Its been in there a couple of months Goes to show creepy crawlies like that can sneak in and survive in a tank
  4. i wouldn't mind if it was in a marine tank, its just the fact thats its not supposed to be there and i don't know what it is It might have been dying from water, but kept wriggling for a bit after it took it out? Didn't seem like that though.
  5. eewww i hope there's no more i'll never feel the same looking into that tank again it has a tight hood too, can't see anything falling in...
  6. thats why we should do glass tanks for the next round
  7. also it doesn't crawl, it waved its legs around but smooches its body foward like a worm..
  8. i just went to feed the angels, and saw this crawling on the bottom of the tank It was very disturbing Gingerly netted it out and chucked it in a dish, help? Its like a centipede, but i don't think it is, and what was it doing in my tank? It was crawling round but now i've taken it out it looks dead :-? Most frightening thing i've ever seen in a tank. I like centipedes, i can pick them up no problem, but seeing this creature in there freaked me out.
  9. just pop a mirror next to his tank for a few minutes each day, it'll keep him colourful and active watching out for that intruding fish
  10. better tell him to make you some more coffees then
  11. what did the black flourite cost if you don't mind me asking? I wish they had prices on their website
  12. yup, a big ball of the horrible stuff You'll only need a few pieces though, it'll cover the surface in no time
  13. can't help but i have to say those are brilliant photos, best i could do would be a blue and red blur lol. That worm is downright creepy and gross
  14. it could be something genetic that makes it happen though, weak lines as opposed to something in the water conditions, in which case you wouldn't want to save the fry and perpetrate the problem.
  15. I think i've finally conquered it :bounce: Filled the tank up really high, scooped it all out, trimmed all the plants off the surface (val etc) then scooped it all out again. And then picked up all the individual pieces off the bottom and out of the plants. That was a few days ago and i've only had to pick up a piece or two a day since then, think i'm finally getting there lol.
  16. Are they like two red/pink lines down each cheek? If so they're just the stripes they get when they're mating, like the bars on the girls. And they'll go away when he calmes down
  17. yeah i was thinking it would be cool for frogs. Its about 20cm across. I think there is a place down south that recycles polystyrine into under floor insulation?
  18. went to pick up some more of the 100's of beer bottles from the swamp out the back, and saw a floating island of plants. A closer look revealed it was a chunk of polystyrine, long taken over by the native vegetation. So i figured since it was technically rubbish i could take it home Its fascinating, i've counted 5 different little plants growing on it so far, and it has that ancient foresty smell. Not sure what to do with it, i gather it needs shade and dampness to keep growing, so i might try the shady dark part of our pond.
  19. a gouldian! (spelling?) that was my dream to own as a kid, so beautiful i just had zebras
  20. wow! thats very cool :bounce: did you drink the poor man? Lol

    dropsy?

she's looking better now, scales have gone down... i think it might just be that she's fat, it was after i fed her for the first time this morning that her scales were sticking out, and it was only slightly and around her belly. Now that her meal has moved on her scales look normal. Googled pics of dropsy and they really looked like pinecones, she just had a few scales slightly raised, couldn't see it from the top. Might put her on a diet of the plain boring flakes with pea and stuff in them, and hope she gets slim..

    dropsy?

not at the pinecone stage yet... just a few scales noticable. I hope she'll be ok

    dropsy?

I got some new fighters a few days ago, and they're all real fat One of the girls in particular though, has some sticking out scales, worried she might have dropsy? She's active enough, doesn't seem sick, but her tummy is huge and the scales on the bottom half of it are sticking out. I've split them up because they were picking on each other and i didn't want the fattest to get all the food, but whats the best course of action from here? Should i feed her less than i would normaly, keep the water pristine and hope she comes right? Or do i need to add salt/meds?
