  1. I understand that facebook might improve aspects of online sharing but it does seem to have come at the expense of posting within the forum. There used to be almost daily activity when myself, DavidR, Henward and others would be posting in a couple of the subforums, but that just doesn't happen now. Need to promote existing members to post more I think. I have appreciated FishyNZ's posts a lot lately. Nice marine tang. Eventually I'd like to go back to marine, except shift to NZ temperate. Yeah that is an issue, but hard to avoid if no new bloodlines come in. I would love to get my hands on some festae again...should not have sold my male.
  2. Yeah I believe Hovmoller had a small group of these guys too, but his were not mature and did not display such vibrant colours. I think it would definitely be worth establishing these guys in NZ, I think they are the nicest looking eartheater. You have some excellent looking stock FishyNZ! Jealous.
  3. Nice looking fish, didn't realise red head Tapajos were in the country. I too would be interested in some if you have success rearing them. Where did you get them from?
  4. Noticed that this forum in general has dropped off considerably in the last couple of years, which is a real shame since there used to be an active community a while back. How can we generate some more activity on here? There doesn't seem to be many new members asking questions and existing members don't post frequently. I will make a better post with pics of my stock this week once I get new photos. But for now I will just list my stock and setups. I have one 450L tank stocked with: 1x 20cm female cuban 1x 10cm male jaguar cichlid (which my cuban keeps laying eggs with) 1x 15cm texas cichlid (suspected female) who has some real attitude 1x 8cm female convict with some really great colouration 1x P. delhezi bichir 20cm+ 1x longfin senegal bichir 20cm+ 1x P. palmas palmas bichir 25cm I also have a 150L growout tank with: 5x peruvian angelfish (hope to breed at some point), got these from Hovmoller 2x younger cuban cichlids of which I hope one is a male so I can pair up my big female - will probably use the entire 450L for the breeding pair, got these 2 from FishyNZ 2x albino tinfoil barbs Ultimate goal at this stage is to perpetuate the cuban cichlids in the hobby here. I am also keen on getting other less common cichlids more available to hobbyists here. What are you guys keeping at the moment? List stock and pictures.
  5. I only have a female. Trying to source a male for her
  6. Texas should be easy to find. Festae came in once and have disappeared. Myself and only a couple others on here have Cubans but they are hard to locate. Vieja can be requested at your LFS easily I should think. Midas/Red devil you can't be confident that they are one or the other, most are likely hybridised. True Parrot not available in NZ Not aware of true Trimacs ever coming in. Choc cichlid should be able to be requested at LFS.
  7. Just a long shot, but I know these guys came in a few years back and I regret selling my guy, is there anyone looking to get rid of theirs? Also after other nice CA/SA cichlids. North Shore.
  8. Really cool stock choice, groups of elephantnose are not common to see in the hobby. They get fairly large right?
  9. As per title, looking for a romeo to my juliet. North Shore
  10. Hiya, How big is the firemouth cichlid? Male/female? And how much are you looking for him? Cheers
  11. And the South American Lungfish. 3 true lungfish.
  12. I'm after a jaguar cichlid approx 10cmish, ideally male. I'm in Auckland. Let me know if you guys have one and are willing to sell. Cheers

    Cubans.

Awesome, good luck with rearing the larvae!
  14. No sorry I don't. Will be advertised elsewhere next week.
  15. Fruju

    Cubans.

Tank is only 450L so isn't really able to hold all of these fish long term. Yeah I'm hoping the midas turn out to be creamsickle ones. I also have a jaguar x flowerhorn hybrid in another tank but that thing is aggressive. I like your male! Very similar looking to my female actually.
  16. Sort out a person to collect them and they're yours.

    Cubans.

Finally got around to taking some pics... dealing with some turbidity issues in the tank so excuse cloudiness. Cuban is the big momma in the tank, got to be like 20cm eyeballing it. Tank mates include: 2 midas, 1 convict, 1 salvini, 2 delhezi bichirs, 1 longfin senegal, 1 palmas palmas, 2 bristlenose. I have 2 more salvinis and 2 small texas in a growout. Will add to main tank and then keep the ones I like the most in there.
  18. I need to free up some space. Cuban cichlid approx 10cm, sex unknown Senegal bichir 8cm Bumblebee catfish 6-7cm (no pic, but attractive little fish). $60 for the lot or make an offer. I can't ship due to lack of time/living away from fish location. Pick up only. Pick up North Shore (torbay).
  19. As title says, I'm after a texas cichlid of a decent size, any floating about? Located on the north shore.
  20. Fruju

    Cubans.

Yeah I will get some pics up, how do you do it with the new configuration? Very hard to sex when young, I was positive my big one was male until it laid eggs...
  21. Fruju

    Cubans.

Nice fish. I have 2 right now. One is 7-8inch female who has laid two clutches already. Second one is a suspected female around 10cm or so, probably looking to sell that one. The larger cuban did not tolerate it.
  22. Just scouting out interest/availability of fish out there...my 20cm cuban cichlid is raring to go and has her oviduct extended (massively), she has already laid one clutch of unfertilised eggs. I was wondering if anybody had a stud male to loan out for breeding efforts? Or another cichlid that would make a cool hybrid. But I would prefer a male cuban. Cheers, I'm on the north shore.
