  1. Wish we could get these in, I don't suppose there is any chance of it coming over? http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... eartheater Practically the same fish as altifrons (surinamensis here).
  2. Oh my god, I have lost my last delhezi... I think what happened was the temperature spike created a bacterial infection inside the fish. Worst month in my fishkeeping history.
  3. I just lost 2 dels due to heat (33C) :an!gry , I have managed to drop the temp down to 29.4C, is this going to be ok, or do I need to worry?
  4. I would go for a light coloured sand, maybe lower the water level a bit, put some tall spindly wood in that goes above the surface IMO that would look good. Because of tank size you would be limited to gobies and puffers wouldn't you, scats etc grow too big and you wont find archers.
  5. @ burrowssj I think what we are trying to get at is that for someone working extra hard on maths like yourself they can achieve the same sort of achievement as someone who learns to drive a tractor which I can imagine is not particularly difficult. I am from the perspective as the employer that if 2 people showed up with exactly the same grades, but one in Physics and the other in food tech (disregard a focus on what working sector right now lol), I would instantly hire the person with a physics achievement as it would suggest they are more intelligent (not sniping at chefs so dont take it personally). I know it might be necessary in some cases but, I think some areas of NCEA fail to challenge those with little motivation, other courses like cambridge which I have perspective on really make a pass an achievement, whereas NCEA IMO and from observations is much easier to pass. Although you say book smart is not everything, the manual labour skills that you mentioned couldn't they just be learned through work experience rather than a subject matter at school? Wish I was good at math lol
  6. Better condition than the first one?
  7. Same principle with NCEA, each achievement counts towards some points, the more excellence credits you get the more points are available. Confusing as hell system, took me all 5 years to get a grip on it :dunno:
  8. All the more reason why you have 0% chance of getting one here although selling your house would be a start
  9. very true, might as well take food tech instead of maths for easy cred. Are you sure thats true? Don't credits get converted into UCAS points at Uni, with courses requiring a certain level of points for you to be accepted? For cambridge we get a grade: A, B, C, D, E. Each one corresponds to a certain number of points (eg: A = 120), then after acheiving the grades you add up the scores to find out your overall Uni points. I earnt 200 points just in 6th form and aiming for 300 for last years grades. However, to me these kind of seem redundant since I had more than enough points to get into Auckland Uni and have already been accepted into my Ecology course :happy1:
  10. It's the temp Im sure of it :-? had to drop it down, fish started acting a bit more regular now. Parameters are ok, fish died too fast for addition of salt.
  11. Lost another delhezi, my large male! What the hell! Symptoms: Lost a bit of balance, green poop, lethargic. Food: hikari pellets, prawn cut up, occaisional beef heart (added lettuce and cucumber for FT, but sure it didn't eat it). Water: Condtions fine. Temp: reading 33C today!! Is this it? Dont know of any parasites? Worms? Why is this happening?
  12. Yeah, I just finished cambridge too, which school are you at? hey Stella! Got into my ecology course at Aucks! Thanks for the advice

Ha Ha very funny
  14. Comepletely right IMO. I would go 80 by 90 by 220 for a suitabley sized tank, I like to have enough swimming space for my fish. LOL @ henward, trying to cram as many tanks possible into his small garage haha
  15. Yep, I don't like the system at all, so hard to understand and I kept getting confused with the conversion of points etc etc. My (previous- Uni now yay) school offers cambridge which is a examination designed in Cambridge England obviously, soo much better IMO, much harder to pass but easier to get excellence - unlike NCEA which I have found to be easy to pass and very difficult to get excellence. Unfortunately we have to wait until the 28th to get our results, have to be mailed back from England  Does anyone know by chance when scholarships come out? I sat both an English and Geography one.
  16. @David You make me want to get a green lol, I think I would upgrade before doing an arowana again.

Mass breeding. I based my info on US costs and location, everything is cheaper in Asia
  18. Will still grow substantially but may take a lot longer and will not make it to the extent that say Henwards RTG is at. Growth stunt due to small tank and poor husbandry, optimum conditions will improve health overall. Small tanks cause the gill curl + poor water quality - researched it myself.

Depends what type of ray, motoro rays go for between $150-$300 relevant to size, leos go for $1500 (US prices)
  20. Tail looks broken? Do you know its origin? If it is from the old batch it could be stunted? Nothing you can't repair with good food and environment

Yummy. Big fan of the rays, rays over aros any day IMO
  22. Gill curl can recede. Keep water conditions good and it might begin to reduce, saw him the other day, had a weird shaped head though very different to others I have seen.
