  1. Emm - understand and I will try my very best to submit this.. since I dont' have much to do lately..... I can't believe this they do this every years only !! Hi Virginia I have attached a word document that outlines the process that you must go through to add a species to the list. As you will see, the first step to adding a species is to confirm with ERMA whether it is considered new or not. You can contact them at [email protected] The next step would be to apply for the change in the Import Health Standard, which can be found at the link below. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/regs/imports/ihs/request The last prioritisation round closed in Jan 2009 so the next set of applications will be considered/viewed in Jan 2011 so you will have plenty of time.
  2. Hi Virginia Should your application be successful, your transport method to New Zealand would not be of concern, so this would be fine. Regards Erin Maher | Advisor here we go - no importers required !!!!!! I just need to get the application going, courier it from overseas on superfast courier.. since I am just a hobbyist with no plan on selling the shrimps, I cannot see the point of getting an importer involved.
  3. I've found someone that ship guppies and shrimp to international customers - it seems like I can get away with the importers perhaps.. I have emailed MAF to confirm. Dear Virginia, Hobbyist usually request to be ship by courier service which is the cheapest for about 50 to 100pcs. Estimated shipping and handling cost is USD65/-. Rgds Sean
  4. Thanks everyone - it's nice to get some leads before researching to narrow down what I need to do. I will do some research this week around Singapore and Hong Kong and will make some contacts.
  5. I have started a new thread - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=42355 I think it's more appropraite to put this under Freshwater rather than plant
  6. I am going to submit an import application to MAF to import Cherry Shrimp. I am hoping I can keep this thread as WIP and Technical support. It looks like the deadline line of application is end of Jan (according to last year schedule) and they will announcement the successful application around July. For those who are willling to help, here's the first question - which country should I import the shrimp from? I come from HK and that's where I see these lovely shrimp and I am thinking to import it from there. Any other suggestions?
  7. which one should be the best exporting country? I am thinking of HK (that's where I come from). Anyone?
  8. I will keep everyone posted here I don't have a lot of knowledge about shrimp but I am sure someone can help me out here ....
  9. yeah... and we can't take them to the vet and have operations.. (I guess we can, but I jsut don't know where) Good luck to both of our fish
  10. i see - otherwise, where else can I source CO2? I have called BOC and it costs 13+GST for monthly rental.. which is a bit too much considering I only have a very small tank ....
  11. no worries - I am thinking to submit an application during christmas time... would that be a good idea>????
  12. For those who wants to import cherry shrimp (including myself), here's the email I have form MAF Hi Virginia Unfortunately we do not have import requirements to allow import of this type of shrimp. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/ ... ic.all.htm These are the shrimp we do allow - and I hope this is of some help. Invertebrates Cypraea tigris Cowry Lysmata amboinensis Skunk cleaner shrimp Lysmata debelius Fire shrimp Ophiolepis superba Brittle star Periclimenes brevicarpalis Anemone shrimp Spirobrachus giganteus Feather duster worm Stenopus hispidus Banded coral shrimp You can apply for a new shrimp to be added, but to be honest wit you - it is not a easy or quick process (may take up to three years). If you are thinking of this as a possibility in the future, I'd encourage you to put in an application. It doesn't cost anything to apply - and we can put it on hold until the next round of requests are considered. More information about this is available at this link http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/regs/imports/ihs/request Please let me know fi you have any questions. Kind regards
  13. is it ok to use the soda stream bottle to provide CO2? will that work??
  14. this is very amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good work !!! does it cost a lot to create a pond like this?
  15. Thanks I have added the epson salt (not too sure how much is appropriate though) and she seems doing ok... beeing swimming a lot.. She looks like a healthy fish expect with the swelling and not eating.. (well I guess that's not that healthy then :( )
  16. I think the cause of the disease is due to the nitrite... I have been trying my vesty best to keep the nitrite down but I failed to do so. Now my fish hasn't been "excreting" for a while and today, I finally spotted her pushing out clear poo ..... is it a good sign? I also read from the net that Epsom salt bath would help... should I try??
  17. i feel your pain. I am quite attached to my fish as well and one of them (about 6 years) has been sick for a long time.. now I think she got dropsy :( I will keep your fish in my prayer
  18. I suspect my dearest Oranda has dropsy - she hasn't been eating for a week - initially stuck at the bottom of the tank, but now she's swimming "happily" - start developing pinep-cone like scale - swelled abdominal I am now treating her with Dropys & Ulcers solution I bought (http://www.aquapharmlabs.com/fresh/medi ... /index.asp, quick remedy 2). However, the nitrite level in my tank is still very high... I used to do water change every second day to lower it (55 L tank) and I am just wondering should I still keep my water change during the treatment period?
  19. i used to have 4 fish (1 Oranda, 1 Fantail and 2 moors) in a 55 litres tank for 4 years.. they were a fine until I moved them to the new tank.......................
  20. I am keen to get some Cherry Shrimp as well. I just came back form HK and dad has a handful ( about 20) shrimp in his tank. The shrimp is pretty cheap.. it's about NZD 2 per shrimp....
  21. Thanks everyone, my fish is now swimming and eating
  22. I am so jealous too... my fish are not spawning at all this year.. i wonder why :(
  23. I have done both and still the same result...
  24. hi everyone My fish is now swimming and start eating slowly. I have added extra air and used melafix.... However, my water test is showing high level nitrate and nitrite but no ammonia.. what should I do? I have just changed my water yesterday....
  25. thanks everyone... I have now added more air and melafix and my fish seems a bit more active, although she's still not eating. I will get that medication tomorrow....
