  1. would that be Furan 2 or melafix? I have melafix at home
  2. I haven't treated her with fin rot at all. Should I just use tonic?
  3. She's not the only fish in the tank. I have two batches of fish in that tank - the older one, roughly 6 years old and one of them got severe fin rot. My other fish is about 1 year old and they are all fine !!!! The ammonia is a bit high (0.5) but it's not too bad. We have automatic feeder on so it can't be over feeding... it has been like this for a few days already.... I have put her in another tank with the small fishes (about 6 months old) and she's still not eating this morning... and she's breathing quite heavily as well.... She also looks way skinner than usual... would a photo helps?
  4. My oranda is now stuck at the bottom of the tank and she doesn't eat anymore.. i went overseas for 3 weeks and mum has been changing water.... My fish is roughly 6 years old now... is there anything I can do here?
  5. try picasa. That's the one I use. Do you have any plants to collect the eggs?
  6. Thanks everyone !! i have a boy !!!! yay !!!
  7. Thanks for your advice. I have spearated small and big fish and they both look happy !!!
  8. Hi there I bought this fish today off Trademe. I didn't quite check it when I picked him (so i got told) up and now I discovered he has some white dots..... I am just wondering is he sick or head development?
  9. we are talking gold fish here. I just bought two blue orandas, about 6cm long. I put them in the tank and the next morning and I found chasing behind my other fish, which is a cross of fantail + oranda, probably 4x its size and snipping/eating the tail. I have now separated all of the younger fish into another tank..... I have 4 big fish, probably around 20cm long, and all of their tails are damaged with filled with blood streaks... Is this a sign of breeding or something else?
  10. Really? my fish nearly lost half of her tail because of this. I have to separate both fish now. Is it a good idea to put both large fish (6 years old) and small fish (around 6 months old) together in the same tank?
  11. wow !! awesome photos !!! I wish I have a pond like this... Hey a quick question - I spotted one of my fish has been chasing my other fish in the tank AND he (I assume) 'chew' the tail of the other fish, is this normal?
  12. I have seen someone selling batches on Trademe recently hope this helps. I am looking for a pure black young oranda at the moment and they are hard to find as well...
  13. I have done my ammonia check and it has been between 0-0.25 for the past few weeks. Should I raise my pH or lower my pH? I am just a bit confused here...
  14. hi experts I would like to ask what would be the ideal readings for pH and kH for my orandas? plenty of red streaks on the tail and the tail starts shredding..... Hollywood Fish farm recommends me to do ph stabilser... My pH is 7.6 and kH is 4 (4 drops of solution).... Thanks Cheers Vir
  15. Thanks - I have done the water change and have moved the fish to the other thanks, all the red streaks are now gone
  16. http://picasaweb.google.com/piggyvir/Fi ... 6797792082 I have done one water change and now my oranda just stuck next to the filter inlet :( I will do another water change tomorrow...
  17. This only happened this morning and I have checked the ammonia level and it has been fine. Any idea why? She still eats well, swim a bit slower now. Is it because of the temperature?
  18. I had a black moor which turns into orange moor - i think it's because of the food I have been feeding him in the past 2 years.

    Plant

I am just wondering how to grow water plants? It's quite expensive to buy plants from the Pet shop and my gold fish just wanna eat them as salad... i am thinking whether it's possible to grow your own? just like vegetable....
  23. Update - i successfully sold two of my biggest fish for 20 bucks on trademe and add the gravels with a proper undergravel filter. The set up has been running for a week and the water condition has been great so far. my filter wool start developing some houseflies after a month without changing it.. is it normal???!!! That really freaks me out !
  24. reading of the day ph = 6.5 No3 = 12.5 mg/l How to de-chorline before putting the water into the tank? If I change 50% of the water, that's about 100 L.... should I prepare 10 buckets?? I normally just hose it into the tank directly
  25. actually - any chance they will eat one another? I had this horrible experience a few years back - i have two awesome, beautiful veiltails with 1 oranda, 1 black moor and 1 perlscale. I went on a trip and my neighbour only feed them once a day and missed a day on feeding The next day she went there - my beautiful awesome veiltail has nothing left but the bones....the second veiltail died a few months after that since then, I just couldn't buy another veiltail from the shop !!! That's one of the reason why I do feed my fish quite a bit :( . I am not scared of them being starved, but I don't want them to each one another...
