  1. You could always pass them off as fridge magnets?
  2. I have had the same thing, only on one eye though. I put it down in the end to the clown fish scraping it on the sharp edges of the rocks while being chased.
  3. Good news.... Clownfish seems fine this morning, ate breakfast with everyone else, and now has her mouth closed. That will teach her for biting off more than she can chew
  4. Here is an interesting question. One of my clownfish has been swimming around with her mouth wide open. When she comes to the front of the tank I can see into her mouth, and their seems to be something stuck at the back of her throat. Does anyone else know what the inside of the mouth of a clownfish should look like?????? I'm wondering if she has some muscle stuck from this mornings feeding or if it is something else. Has anyone else have this happen to their clownfish? I'm guessing if it is food, it will slowly disolve?

    Fragging stuff

I have been fragging my pulsing xenia. Started with one large piece, took a sharp pair of scisors and cut the coral into four pieces. Placed them on pieces of live rock I had broken up and placed netting material around the rock and used a rubber band to hold it in place. Placed them back in the tank for about a week. Took the netting and rubber band off, making sure the xenia had fused itself to the rock and presto 4 pulsing xenia. Daniel

    new tanks

Pick me, pick me Moving house very soon, already have the house, doing the renovations. Going with a 600 Litre tank 1.8m long as the main tank upstairs. The sump is going to be upgraded to around 300 litres and my existing 300 litre tank will also be part of the setup Looking at all the tanks online here and visiting pies and Ira, have given me lots of inspiration. Daniel

    Dacron Wool

Is dacron wool the same as filter wool? Can I use dacron wool instead of filter wool? Thanks
  12. Maybe a good excuse to purchase a nice outdoor spa pool and install a heat exchanger for the fish tanks to keep them warm Only have to pay to keep the spa pool running now.....
  13. I have one of these.... http://www.centameter.co.nz/ Have had it connected to the phase wire feeding the fuse that powers my tanks etc. It gives you total current draw, wattage being used. Temperature and Humidity of room. It also allows you to put in the current price of power and it will tell you, how much power you are using. The transmitter and Receiver are wireless so you can mount it somewhere you can see it Daniel
  14. I think I worded it a little wrong... Most of it had gone white but.... the pieces I fragged off it were still orange and still are. I will go and find some information about keeping sps corals now Kind of looks like this but only in smaller pieces...
  15. I was given a birds nest coral that was practically dead. It was originally orange and had gone white and dried out. I fragged the coral up and all the pieces have regained their orange colour but have also started getting covered in a pink/red slime. Is this slime normal as part of the regrowth of the coral? I'm a little confused

    Tank Hood

I am going to attempt to make a tank hood out of pine. The question that is bugging me is how much weight can the glass in the tank take? The tank has bracing and all glass is 12mm thick. All the diy ones on the net seem to be quite big and must weigh quite a bit. Does anyone have any experience in this field? Thanks Daniel
  17. My Blue Tang and Yellow tang are best of friends. Where one goes the other will follow. I have heard that it is better to get a smaller yellow tang and let it grow, otherwise it will try to take over the tank when it is first introduced.

Yay my hairy mushrooms have finished splitting up. They have gone from 1 to 2 and then to 6. Time to move them around the tank to fill in all the empty spaces. Tried putting the pulsing xenia back in the tank but the bicolour angel goes straight to it Need to find more things to put on the rocks

    Cloudy Tank

It is a Merlin. It is about 80mm in diameter and about 300mm High. None of the particles come out of the filter when it is running. I tried putting filter wool in the top and that almost instantly turns orange. Thanks

    Cloudy Tank

Evening All, Question time for those using Rowaphos I have about 300 grams in my fluadized filter. When the water is running through at about 1/2 litre a minute the water coming out is clear. At this point the rowaphos is not fluadized it only sits at the bottom of the filter. When I turn the flow up it fluadizes the rowaphos but the water coming out is cloudy white, and in about two minutes the whole display tank and sump is cloudy. The only way to stop this is to turn the filter right down again to such a slow flow. It turns anything in the tank a rusty red colour when it comes in contact with it. Has anyone every had this happen to them? I'm wonding if it is effecting my calcium in the tank? Thanks Guys and Girls

    Homemade food

I think it is used as a binding product to hold it all together when freezing. I took the recepie out of the clown fish book that I have. My mistake, the muscles are not cooked.
